Dawn said at SEC Media Day we aren’t fully healthy right now, especially at PG. Raven plays most of practice but they’re going to bring her along slowly. Kierra hasn’t been able to practice consistently so she’ll have to be worked in slowly as well. So for the time being Zia has been getting a lot of reps at PG. I think all 3 and a little of Amihere will play point this year. Dawn said she doesn’t have staters because they aren’t fully healthy so she can’t really evaluate them right now.
PG by committee did not work for Stanford last year and I don’t expect SC to repeat without consistency at the position. The good news is there’s a ton of time to figure that out and a lot of talented ballhandlers to work with.

I'm not sure who the second most obvious contender is (Texas?), but no question PG likely will be the main question for SC.

I low key enjoyed Henderson being the difference last year after years of criticism around here and even on SC boards.

SC does have a really good prospect in Raven and I'd guess a workmanlike option in Fletcher if she's healthy. Could it win the title with Zia Cook playing a lot of minutes out of position...? Maybe? It'd be hard to do and hard to watch.

The dominance on the boards and the defense doesn't figure to go away.

Yes she is. She has transformed her body and has worked tirelessly on her outside shot. SC fans already know she’s a rebounding machine and has great touch around the basket. TBH, we need a great PG and another guard in next year’s class and we will be in great shape. We just have so many bigs that are very skilled.Dawn raved about how much Feagin and Cardoso had transformed their games. Watkins is just a beast. Not sure what to expect from Amihere because she was gone all summer on a mission trip, her brother’s sudden death and then FIBA BB, but Dawn has used her in different spots the past 2 years. She could show up playing anywhere. Add in Boston and V and our front court is just insane.
I want so many minutes for Feagin.

It's hard to feel bad about a senior captain and monster rebounder/defender retuning but I hated Feagin's minutes staying blocked.

Well unlike Stanford we actually have true PGs to play the position. None of Anna Wilson, Lacie Hull, or Haley jones are true PG. I’m sure Raven and Kierra will handle most of the duties. But Zia and LA are seniors and has done it before so I think they have enough experience to do it sparingly.

Also the PG position is Dawn's baby for obvious reasons. She will take every precaution, measure, move, whatever necessary to have them ready. I implicitly trust her.

It's also worth pointing out that Stanford's PG by committee approach wasn't exactly bad either. They we're the #2 team for much of the season and played one of their worst games of the season in the final four and was easily our biggest threat for the season/championship had we met again.

Charlie Creme gave us grief on the schedule.

Granted we do not play everybody this year, but
Does this slate deserve actual shade?

@maryland
@Clemson
@Stanford
@Cal-Poly
UCLA
Memphis
South Dakota State
@Uconn

The SEC schedule does line up nicely with the lone particularly concerning road game being the potentially big matchup with the Vols.

Get LSU and Arkansas at home.

Good point. Stanford was good. Though I think PG play did hurt them.

Anyway, are the chickens playing an exhibition game this year? Any regular season games vs an HBCU ?

Yes to both. Exhibition vs HBCU Benedict on Halloween night and they’ll play Hampton on 11/27. Dawn always place marks a spot on the regular season schedule for an HBCU.

I am hopeful that UCLA breaks into the top 25 by season's end, further bolstering USC's strength of schedule. While unranked in most preseason top-25 polls it did receive enough votes to land at #27 in the AP preseason poll.

BTW Coach Close mentioned at the Pac-12 media day that the Gamecocks and Bruins will play four times in home and aways over the next five years.

Interesting. Factors in nicely as they make their play for Juju. We’ll see if the Stanford home/home gets reupped and/or other west coast match ups in CA and pacific NW can be scheduled.

Alright time to vote for the best USC power couples:

Brea Beal and Jaycee Horn
Aliyah Boston and Tre-vaughn Minott

Who you got? Any other couples to consider? :p

Noticed this from pics of last night’s MBB event at the CLA. V appears to be using a scooter. I don’t see any mention of it anywhere so it may be nothing. Hopefully this season won’t be derailed by nagging injuries, something that has plagued many a defending champ - including the ‘17-‘18 Gamecocks (Cuevas-Moore, Spann). Though that team’s chances of repeating pretty much went out the window when Gray and Davis went pro.

Does Littleton and her Gamecock fb player turned staff member boyfriend count? I can't think of his name right now but he's a GA for us still. They were together here to begin with but stayed together even after Destiny went to SoCal and he stayed in Cola.

True that. I forgot that one. Jalyen Dickerson. So many USC power couples in recent memory lol

... I'm waiting for triaddukefan to make some witty comment like "fried chicken and sweet tea". Tell me I'm wrong. lol :p

If it was serious serious, I highly doubt she would’ve made a very public appearance without Dawn speaking on it first.

None of the media that was at the event brought it up either and all of them were there for GG.

Re the personalities' question - That would have applied had Reese decided to go to South Carolina too in my opinion. On top of that, LSU is more of a blank slate where she can help make the program her own. We'll never know but this LSU season is going to be one that I'll be following.
