Anyone who has been in regular contact with him recently? From all accounts he is not the same guy he was a few years back.

That's what I'm saying. I don't think the reasonable response to somebody who was universally respected but has recently lost his way is to write him off. That isn't to say that he shouldn't still be gone if this continues, but I think there is a difference between your Diaco level lunatic and somebody like Ollie - perhaps I'm simply misinterpreting the perspectives of people on this board, but I do think the distinction is an important one.

There is a difference between being a journeyman NBA player and a leader of young men. While you accumulate your opinion off of Wikipedia most of us can see and hear what is actually going on with the program we love. I'm not rooting against him you nitwit I'm rooting FOR our program to stop this spiral into the black hole of irrelevancy.

You make it sound like the two are mutually exclusive. They're not. Everybody agrees that things are bad right now and that change will have to be made if he doesn't turn this around soon. What some people take exception to is the idea that it's in any way helpful to be actively running him out of town. And since he's still here, I would prefer that the current players respect him (barring something really bad behind the scenes that we don't know about). A kid who has already been run out of one program mouthing off to a respected coach doesn't warm my heart regardless of how many people may have their pitchforks ready.

I consider myself the JUCO version of this message board. Have you ever watched the vid by the Ghetto Brothers called "My Minds Playing tricks on Me"? Well I am that guy here! The vid is impossible to find for a reason! Being hated is tough. Being disliked is tough. The JUCO mentalty!

The mods want me dead and I don't know who they are. I have to always look over my should to make sure I am not banned (shot). This message board is the HOOD.

Who is to say though I will not be the next Barford/Macon package and make it BIG! Dreams are made every day! Husky Nan is the prize (mere friendship of course)!

It's the same way in baseball.

JUCO transfers are helpful for well, getting guys like Cobb. Giving you a legit 7/8 guy on the depth chart who gives you valuable minutes. Flawed, full of effort, but clearly not a guy who should be starting or eating up long terms scholarship money. Cobb's a guy who gives good effort, with an underrated passing game that can keep you competitive in stretches when you need your valuable guys to get a blow. He'd have been a great depth addition on almost any single one of the good teams we've had.

He's not a guy who should be starting and playing 15 minutes+

It's really not all that different in other sports. I lean back on baseball because I know it the best, but it's the same there. We had a transfer to Creighton signed a few years ago. Outstanding numbers at Iowa Western, peripherals and spin were all there. We lost him by December because he couldn't bother going to class and had to take summer classes. First red flag was it took him six weeks to fill out his contract. Talented, but there's always something to worry about and keep an eye on. For a few it's behavioral, but it's not that he's acting 'ghetto' (I don't even want to go there). Behavioral covers a lot from effort, to punctuality, to academic, to how the prioritize things in their life. There's a reason they had to go the JUCO route first and it always peaks its head up in varying degrees along the way and yet again - here we are. Yes, sometimes you get lucky and catch a break, but it's not the norm, it's the exception.

This is it really. He’s not the man he was. He’s less than he was. The best result for UConn is that he’d find his way back. I keep searching for evidence of it. The first step is self awareness, and I’m not sure he’s there. He seems have have silenced the voices around him that would tell him difficult truths.

As for Cobb, let’s see what this is. Conduct Detrimental is just a vague catch all. I’m not rooting against Cobb either. The team and Cobb, may have needed this.

This place is such a joke. A thread where a kid gets suspended for something, it's not the only kid that has in college basketball by the way, and all of the agenda dudes are out here getting yet a few more shots in on KO?

Pitiful group of "fans". Broken record from Fart, bass, Mick etc etc. Kid did something that deserved a penalty let's go 8 pages more on how KO sucks. You guys are really lame, it's hilarious.

KO doesn't have the respect of his players or just about anyone else he encounters in this job. That is the problem.

Didn't know you were in the huddle, I will listen to you more now.

All along I thought when I watched the games Cobb looked really bad the last few games, lazy on defense and out of control on offense. Instead, the whole time he was playing like that because KO doesn't respect him. No wonder he was upset, poor kid.

It gets funnier all the time, all because of a suspension of a kid who disrespected authority?

Who bashed KO? But, UC did have 3 leave the team for a variety (pick one) of reasons. As for Cobb, etc, I'm guessing JC didn't have many kids mouthing-off at him at game time.

You made a comment that JC coaches for character and questioned whether ko does.

Remember when JC took two players who stole laptops but suspended one for a different length than the other because one could help us on the floor immediately and one couldn't?

Character.

KO did the right thing here.

Calhoun loved his Father Flanagan role.

Doesn’t always work. A great story on Caron Butler ... begat Nate Miles.

And Doug wrenn, and Doug Wiggins, and Mike Hayes, and dot dot dot

There's a growing crowd of people rooting for UConn's opponents to beat them, and your boy superjohn has jumped in to defend them. Of course I'm going to mock them.

It's not the board as a whole, it's just a few of you idiots so get it right Fart guy. Geez I don't want to be portrayed as an awful person like the cronies.

I don't know if you noticed but it is rare that I actually defend KO how could I all that much? But those that are out of control and have been for a real long time, who have stated their position but feel the need to make every thread a broken record of their agenda, well I don't like them. It's been said, we know he's been awful and the teams aren't performing. But when we are discussing plays in the game, players doing things in the game and they feel the need to jump in to spin their crap about KO when it has little to do with the discussion, then they get attacked and deservedly so. Well not deservedly in all reality but it is justified to me, although ignore is an option.

Kids are still playing and wearing the uniform not that a few even care, but I still do. And believe it or not I'm hoping they win, some of you can't even go there anymore.

Meanwhile back at the ranch the football team still needs to get a legit and I mean legit OC to build on what Rhett Laslee did here last year or we are going to be stuck in this mediocre conference forever - and that is far more important then our 11th man being suspended from our barely over .500 basketball team. If we want to be honest about everything that is both football's and basketball's most pressing need right now.

No one knows details here so the suspension could be justifiable.

Stop jumping to conclusions.

Is there someone who thinks it isn't justified? I haven't seen that. If anything Ollie is way too lax with these guys. I wanted Vital yanked out of a game earlier this year for yapping and then giving a shoulder bump to an opposing player and drawing a T. JC would have sat him a good long time. Ollie never even took him out.

Kid does something to cause him to get suspended which is fine. But to compare this to laptop gate is insane. The difference between that team & this team...they were good at basketball. That doesn't excuse the behavior but at least there was a reason for these players to be here in the first place. What reason is there for Cobb to ever wear a UConn jersey? Well, we had a mass exodus of players last year so we needed a warm body, however it was well known Cobb had a troubled past.

"What reason is there for Cobb to ever wear a UConn jersey?" You answer your own question in the next line, negating your complaint that there was a reason for the laptop guys to be here in the first place but not this player. It's certainly not as if Cobb was anyone's first choice for an inside big. Ollie and the staff found a guy who had difficulties his freshman year at a P5 school, and went JUCO where he didn't learn any basketball discipline, and who was 6'9" and 270 lb, and they hoped they could straighten things out. They still might if they can get through to him. This was a necessary, but not desirable signing. To insinuate that the laptop guys had more talent, so that makes it different is wrong. Both situations revealed character problems.
