Cobb Suspended

I felt bad for Nate but it wasn’t because of how he was treated. He simply had no business being on a college campus as a student. His life was a mess and he was unprepared academically socially and emotionally to be part of a college community. The result was that he was embarrassed and a woman was at best harassed and probably assaulted and Calhoun and the program were collateral damage. This incident showed how badly Calhoun wanted another title. The irony is he got it with a much more likable guy as the leader

Or ... alternatively ... Calhoun thought that the Butler story was repeatable. And there was a slim chance of probability; he was wrong this once.

Bummer. I thought he had an interesting skill set. Never full realized, but with tons of potential and upside. Hope he sorts things out. If he can improve his attitude and is able to get back on the team, he could be a valuable asset moving forward.

I may or may not be among the optimistic posters here, but I have to say I gave up on Cobb very early in the season. I have very little patience for lack of effort on D or people doing whatever they want on the floor. I am surprised it actually took this long.

He has the most talent of any of the current big men on the roster, although some of the bigs probably have more upside. But you have to question his play. I can't believe that Ollie was happy with Cobb's freelancing on the court like bringing the ball up the court and shooting 3s. I hope Cobb changes his attitude as he can help the team.

In basketball the mental is to the physical as 4 is to 1.

It should be clear to all with a pulse that at UConn right now the mental is to the physical as 1 is to 1. That really starts from the top right on down. However the DNA must be there via recruiting. You do not need 5 or even 4 star players to hit 4:1. If you hit 4:1 with primarily 3 star guys who have learned 4:1 you can be a Top 10 team.

What you will realize with proven case studies is that INTERNAL LEADERSHIP is the key variable to attaining the 4:1. When you hit 4:1 it is the equivalent to scoring a date with Jessica Alba (or substitute whomever) in her prime. Her saying YES YES YES is very analogous to that 4:1 feeling a basketball team gets when they reach the pinnacle of mental preparation.

I hear what you're saying but there is some real nice game in the kid. The unfortunate thing is he likes to play fast without thinking, dribble a lot and doesn't like to help on D or move his feet. And he hasn't worked hard enough to be as quick as he needs to be to perform at his peak. It's too bad, hope theres a fire to light under him that may work.

Napier was given the green light to do what he wanted his final two years and that allowed him to showcase his talents, and he kicked ass time and time again. Of course he views KO favorably.

Shabazz Napiers don't come around often. The current guys need real coaching and to play with heart and discipline. Ollie was riding Secretariat in 2014. These guys aren't on that level and that's no slight to them, just a testament to Bazz.

Go watch the highlights from the national championship of 2014. Shabazz was simply incredible. He 100% refused to lose.

You know a sexual assault never happened? Were you under their bed? And who the hell thinks a bus full of drunken Teamsters protesting a university disciplinary hearing is a fine idea?

This place has gone beyond stupid at this point.

Never happened. You are the one that’s ignorant about this matter, which I did know quite a bit about. The police investigated and did not press charges. It was consensual between Nate and the girl. Jeff Jacobs wrote a lot of nonsense but presented no facts to back up his hysteria.

The Teamsters could not have been more intimidating than the Woman Centers protesters. Obviously, you did not see them. But, they would have balance out the protest influence, so they could focus on the facts - which would have exonerated Nate.

I agree with two of your points:
1). Nate had no business being on a college campus as a student- But, are you willing to hold all major college athletes to the same standard? There would be plenty of holes in SEC football teams if you did. Calhoun did not believe in unilateral disarmament .
2). Calhoun wanted badly to win another title - True, the dude was driven for success. No participation trophies in his house.

I've learned so much in this thread. (Mostly a reinforcement that we don't need separate threads for spin zone reruns.)

Message board discussions need self-professed insiders to let us know they know what we do not know.
Self-professed insiders have their followers and cynics.
Certain insiders and cynics would be able to run a successful major college program.
A successful major college program steers clear of JUCOs.
JUCO kids come from the basketball of deplorables.
One such kid .u.'s coach so kid gets suspended.
Kid gets suspended so another reason why coach deserves to get fired.
(At this point thread has been jumped and many silently go "Aargh, here we go again!")
Coach deserves to get fired so prior coach's suspensions are called into question.
Prior coach suspended kids but didn't deserve to get fired.
Prior coach didn't deserve to get fired because he won.
Winning coach is respected by his large base and called into question by few while losing coach is dissected and desecrated by many and respected by only his shrinking base.
Majority opinion is loudest in the war of words.
When out of opinion ammunition, cowardly posters devolve into personal attack.
Personal attack battles, what fun.
Fun is discussion.

Nailed it and virtually every thread on this board. Except the pizza thread. But it's so long and I haven't read the whole thing so maybe that one too.

Ollie always comes off as such a miserable SOB. No charisma left in the tank.
Yeah, he has checked out. I see spurts of energy during the games but, off the court, zero.

Serious question, when do you see Ollie off the court when he doesn't have a microphone in his face? I'm no Ollie apologist, but the lengths to which people are going to find reasons to criticize the guy are duck absurd. You don't have any idea how much "energy" or "charisma" he has off the court so other than providing another spurious ground for complaint what the hell's the point?

I saw our CEO in Grants drinking with our CFO in WeHa center one night, that's awful isn't it. Would rather have seen them at the Electric Blue I mean the thought of an adult in Weha center?

Was at 12:15 am... on a Saturday. Look I’m not trying to convince you of anything or really anyone. Just providing a first hand and sometimes second hand account of things. You can think I’m completely full of it idc. It makes the message board go round.

Man, joobs...this one went right to the gutter.
So pretty harmless posts get deleted but posts about players sleeping with KO’s ex wife stay up. I’ll give up on trying to understand what is and isn’t allowed around here anymore.

So far this season we have had crappy big men by committee. Cobb was a part of that but now we have more time for David O. who scores 9 points....for the season so far in 10 minutes a game. We don’t exactly have a lot of depth there so whatever he did, hope KO punishes him and gets him back out there. It’s not like the kid has many options at this point, unless he’s an idiot. (Which is probable).

We need summaries like this every 5 pages on long threads. And then have the ability to put n them to the top of the thread. It would save me hours of reading time.
