Kim could end up with 600 wins in 706, however she may end up somewhere between Nancy at 706 and Geno at 716.
 
All three of the very good coaches mentioned above took over and started with programs that were in a much better position than the one Geno started with.
I’m sure they inherited higher ranking existing players relative to competing teams, better budgets, better facilities and recent histories of strong winning seasons.

While those three have maintained very good programs for quite a while, we need to remember that when Geno came out of the starting gate he was metaphorically looking ahead at the tails of their horses already at the quarter-mile post. I believe that if and when those three start into the home stretch(i.e. nearing 1000 wins) he will already be in the winner’s circle receiving the roses.

I don't know about the state of the programs that Gromacki and Fahey took over, but Baylor was 7-20 the season before Mulkey took over in 2000. It's true they had made the WNIT the two seasons prior to that, and surely had better facilities than what Geno found at UConn in 1985.

Plebe, I would also add that Baylor was in a much better conference when Kim took over and Baylor did not have a WCBB following compared to OU, TAM, Texas or even OK St who were established teams, whereas Geno was in the Big East that back in 1985-86 was not a great conference.

I don't get the need by so many members of this forum to go overboard to an illogical point in touting Geno. Geno is by far the top coach in basketball, his legacy is well established and we should be secure enough to note there are other very good coaches as well and not feel the need to immediately point out "how hard Geno had it". Just because someone may eclipse his fastest to whatever number wins doesn't mean they are better than him, it means that they are a VERY GOOD COACH.

What we tend to forget is the coaches on this list are in the 1% of their peers with unparalleled success in their careers that they all should be lauded. Please note, I didn't say "Liked" but congratulated on these achievements.

Kim notched her 550th win today. Sits at 550-99 while in her 19th season at Baylor. Looks like she can hit 600 wins by her 20th season.

Connie Tilley, 34th all time in wins (684) is retiring at the end of this season.
This is her 42nd season at D3 St Norbert College (WI), tying her at 1st (with 3 others) for longest at one school, among coaches with 600+ wins.
Andy Yosinoff of Emmanuel in Boston will move into 1st if he coaches next year.

Looks like Jody Conradt (retired) should be #9 with 900 career wins
 
Geno not gaining as much on Tara this year as expected. The Card should have a pretty easy weekend hosting the Washington schools, should have 2 more W's after Sunday.

CWisdom on this board has been not only that Geno will get to 1098 first, but will pass TVV this year. I don't believe either.

Stanford would have to slump hard and not advance far in the Tourney for that to happen this year. I don't know about reaching 1098 first. Will have to wait and see what life looks like post KLS and Collier at UConn and if Stanford's recruiting hauls in recent years and moving forward propel them back near the top of women's hoops.

This year? Stanford is way too good for that to happen so soon.
Could potentially happen next season before either reaches 1098, but considering Stanford's and UConn's respective trajectories at the moment, I'm not particularly optimistic.

Auriemma needed/needs to split in half the current 8-game (soon to be 9) cushion VanDerveer has in order to catch her before 1099 wins. If he can't get within 4 games of her by the end of this year, I doubt it will happen. He will no doubt pass her at some point, but it may have to wait until 20-21 season.

In a late-ending game, Texas A&M edged Auburn 69-67. Gary Blair now has 15 wins for the season.

Chennedy Carter once again with the game-winning shot. She's got the "clutch gene" :)

I don't understand why teams don't trap her and force one of her teammates to beat them. She's done this winning shot thing 3 times now.

On Dec 3 Milford Husky said the Haley Jones effect would the race to Pat close. Now, with Tara and her team turning on the afterburners this year there is no “may” about it.

Back in November looking at the Stanford schedule and the rankings I projected Stanford losing to the following teams during the season: Baylor, Oregon, Oregon State, AZ State(twice), Cal maybe once(remember their ranking then), and Tennessee(barf!). I also expected them to only go one or two deep into their conference tournament and only to the elite eight.

We all know what’s happened so far. Their win against Baylor was scary, especially in comparison to our loss(albeit on a very off night for us). We are lucky Gonzaga was able to ambush them. So I think Geno and the team will have to work hard to cut Tara’s lead in half this year.

As for next year, it should be quite a battle. Very possibly Tara will pass Pat before Geno can overtake her. As for the Jones effect, I believe as next year goes on we will see the “Griffin Effect” take over. As I said in another post a while back, Aubrey has only just begun her organized basketball career as compared to Haley and the other prospects/commits. Because of her still relatively large upside potential, I think she could end up better than my neighbor. So this and the the next and ensuing years should be fun to watch!
 
Coach Stringer must not get any respect...early in yesterday's game against UCF, ESPN2, while discussing Pat S, put up a list of WBB Coaches with 1000 wins...the Rutgers coach was not on their list :eek:
