Portnoy is making his way through CT as we speak. Was just up in the Prospect area.

One fact supporting CT pie - CT has the highest % of Italian Americans per capita of any state in the US, just above RI, at around 17%. East Haven leads the way as a city. Some town in Jersey has the highest of any city in the US.

My neighborhood is 20%+ Italian ... solid pizza and Italian restaurants everywhere

They delivered from 12 miles away, and was a 2/1 special, so I didn't complain

Admittedly, it was well over a decade ago, but last time we were in the area, I recall a place called the Match Box being sufficiently decent.

My brother in Law lived in Crystal City and worked at the Pentagon at the time.

I don't remember an Italian Store in Alexandria though, only the 2 Arlington locations ... new?

While the DMV was/is not known for pizza, I regularly ate the Nino’s Pizza from the Lyon Village Italian Store between 2000-2008, before I moved out to the suburbs. The Capri Italian sub with fresh mozzarella, rather than provolone, was my other go-to.

Now when I’m in Arlington, my go-to is the hot oil and sausage from the Colony Grill. Otherwise, it’s Pupatella rounding out the top 3.

Was in CT last week (once a year thing) so stopped at Pepe's WH. Pies were very good, but the crust was a little mushy - not like Dominoes or something, but not the hard, chewy wonderful crust I think of when I think of Pepe's. Around the edges was nice and blackened but the middle was just 'soft.' ???

Still great, but just not up to NH standards

I also found the new Pepe's places are hit or miss. Not impressed wth W. Htfd place either.... I do like Mohegan. Especially their signature white clam pie.

I think it takes a decent amount of time for the ovens to hit where they need to be. I was at Mohegan (2007?; 2008?) about a week after Pepe's grand opening and it was among the worst pies I ever had. I've been to a number of other locations but each after they had been open for at least a year (Manchester after about five years, Fairfield even longer, Warwick RI around three years) and each was good. Not Wooster St good but good. How long has there been one in West Hartford? Until your earlier post I didn't know they had one there.
