What the best pizza you can get these days in southeast CT/New London area? I don’t like a lot of stuff on it
Vincitori Apizza in Niantic
Nino's in Uncasville Norwich area, perhaps Friendly Pizza in same area.
Fireside Pizza in Gales Ferry got good reviews from the Hartford Courant FWIW.
Pepe's at the Sun on off hours.
edit: Village Pizza in Preston City

I have no complaints about Pepe's from Mohegan Sun and I have grabbed clam pies from there multiple times.

I have never had a bad pizza from Michel Angelo's in Rocky Hill, though not New Haven style apizza. It is better than some of the surrounding area pizza places (including Sally's in Wethersfield). Definitely not very modern or fancy inside but not "skeevy" as you say, and you don't want to know about some of the big name resturants and what they do. You would not go out to eat then.
Agree that it’s better than most is the surrounding places. Have always found it odd that that area has pretty mediocre options. I do like Village Pizza in Wethersfield and West Side in Rocky Hill does a good Greek style.

Plenty of places have slices. Mario's in Waterbury, Pietro's in downtown Hartford, Michel Angelo's in Rocky Hill, Three Fellas in Marlborough, Giovanni's in Glastonbury come to mind. Problem is they mostly suck
How about Ernie’s and Bar? Don’t they sell by the slice, or Zuppardis maybe?

Being from the same area and agreeing on both of those choices, if you haven't tried Carbones specialty pizzas, I highly recommend them.

No, someone started a different thread about best pizza near Fairfield in January and it got merged into this one
If the "best of" poll thingy is going to continue to be there, it'd be nice to rotate it across each county in CT.

Random... But does anyone have a rec for a favorite place in Colchester? Have to be over there and figured, why not get pizza? I feel like I've had Plum Tomato but I do not remember if it was good or not.

Yes. It is good and they offer by the slice.

I agree with this. Almost all of the neighborhood slice places in NYC are very good and consistently better than the random CT slice places. Not all of them mind you. But I’ve been very disappointed in some random CT slices. Can’t say I’ve felt the same in NYC. YMMV.

I have similar experience, and I think its got to do with the style of pie. Abeetz with the char is meant to be eaten hot and right out of the oven. (and it is great).

While your typical roma style NY/NJ slice place pie is actually better after its been cooked, cooled, and reheated (as served in most slice places) There’s just some kind of magic alchemy that takes place when that type of pie sits and cools, and then gets reheated again. I lived in Bergen county NJ once, and there was a place with pies that were absolutely fantastic the next day cold out of the fridge. A whole different taste than the night before, and both were great.

Any thoughts on NL? Back in the day, Campus and Central were good. Others not. Ocean was popular w the HS crowd (near home), but it was soft and gooey.

I’ll be coaching a math competition in New Haven this weekend and pizza is on the menu for lunch. What are the odds the pie is true New Haven style?

Yes!!! That was our plan all the time. Picking ponies for hours at the old Racebook (before Fanduel moved in), drinking for free while eating the white clam pies from Pepe's.
