2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Kind of reminds me of when we sold out house....it had a smallish kitchen for the size of the house (built in '50s)....people were like, we love the house but if the kitchen was only a little bit bigger....my response was, If kitchen was bigger, the house would be 200k more...

You can't have your backup PG in today's market be A+ at everything...or he would be your starting PG..either because of PT or NIL!!

I tried to sell my house 20 years ago as a "for sale by owner." Two women who couldn't get on an elevator together, said the exact same thing. The only thing that went through my mind was they needed reinforced floor joists, not a bigger kitchen.

I'm more curious as to who would be looking to buy an out house these days.

Every perimeter player needs to be able to hit shots if you want to be an elite team.
Is a 75% career FT shooter. How many minutes at reserve PG do you think there will be? FT%-Although not absolute-Is certainly indicative of a decent shooter. In our sets/schemes -One would think he would be getting higher percentage shot opportunities-and with NIL as it is- I don't think you're getting a lights out shooting reserve PG unless you're willing to throw some NIL at them and they're willing to come off the bench.

The backup PG is getting at least 15 minutes. Not completely against Avery Brown, but I think we can do significantly better with who we add. We should be throwing NIL money at that spot, there's no reason not to. That's what major programs do

He has shot 38% overall and 24% from 3 the last two years. In a way worse conference. That’s more of an indicator than free throw shooting is.

Does Brown walk on water? No. Could there be better portal prospects at reserve PG still available or about to announce portal entry? Of course. At what price? Don't know for us as we await two returnee decisions and look at filling our roster. How many open spots will be filled? Don't know. Doubt if Dan carries 15 players but who knows.

What I do think is accurate. Spreading our NIL resources across our roster needs and satisfying returning players is challenging and critical to what our roster looks like next year. It is hard for me to see Robert Wright jumping at the chance to sit on the bench behind Silas and be happy. Would love to be wrong on that.

Just to be annoying, Joey C was a 36% shooter in a "way worse conference" for three years. He came here and shot it at 45%. I think having better talent around you, especially as a backup, will get you better looks.

On the backup PG argument. We won a title with our backup PG giving us 2.1/1.8 on 30/19/51 shooting in 12mpg. We just need a guy who can handle the ball, not turn it over, and play some D.

36% and 24% are VASTLY different.

Hass shot 28% from 3.--42.1% from 2. Our starting PG. Silas is our starting PG next year. Not a kid like Brown. I don't think its prudent to overspend on a reserve spot when we have NIL to spread up and down the roster openings and returnees.

Hass had already proven he was a contributor at a high level. Shooting is really his only weak point.

Umm...he did at times. Brought the ball up, started the offense.
Perhaps a nit-pick, but I don't really consider that being the point guard. Liam brought it up a lot, too. Strategically, sometimes your wings are going up against lesser ball-hawks, and it saves some energy from your primary ballhandler if someone else bring it up the floor.

Solo has been a 1.5 assists a game guy at every level he's played - putting him at point guard plays to his weaknesses and then we lose him as an off the ball threat off screens, so we become weaker at both the 1 and the 2 by putting him there. He can improve his skills a bit in terms of reading the defense and passing to improve his ability to create for others as a 2 - he got a lot better in that regard as the year went on (he had one assist in the entire month of December). But his ceiling is pretty low as a 1, and way up there as a 2.

It doesn't have to be and won't be Robert Wright off the bench. But this is a championship level program, and Avery Brown is not that level of player, in any role

We play positionless basketball. We need facilitators, and ball handlers, and rebounders and shooters. When I say play PG, that's more about who he guards. He's going to be our smallest player. So he'll have some ball handling duties, some time guarding PGs and obviously will shoot. Is he getting better as a facilitator? Yes, he is, and I think Hurley has told him he needs to (and needs to defend better as well).

We don't have a PG or a SG or SF. We have guys who have roles. It may be that the SF is our best facilitator and starts the offense maybe PG is. The roles will be based on abilities rather than position. That's what we did in our two NC seasons under Hurley and what I think he is trying to get back to. Each lineup should try to ensure enough ball handling, enough shooting, enough passing, enough rebounding and the ability to match up or switch on D.

I keep checking this thread expecting to see something relevant to the topic (i.e. an actual player add or at least negotiations underway) and I'm finding nothing. I am suprised Silas Demary Jr. is the only portal acquisition thus far as other teams seem to be loading up, but I trust Hurley taking his time and being selective is a good thing.
