2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Thanks @navery12

Lindsay’s best aspect is his perimeter shooting. Shot 41% from three and made nearly three per game. Solid secondary ball-handler and not strong defensive metrics, but was originally recruited by Buzz Williams to Texas A&M.

Jaydon Young does not interest me. Poor shooter and not a distributor. Didn’t even start on a bad VT team.

The initial Portal thread ran seventeen pages while UConn was still in the Tournament. I chose not to put my energies on anything so future-oriented.

Now, that thread is 45 pages, and in addition to expected digressions and speculations that no longer have relevance, I can see all kinds of sneaky & clumsy ways that posters continue to include UConn players in the discussion. I'm not going to pick my way through the current accumulation.

Any efforts - in either this thread or another - that could bring those who would like to take a look into the developing Portal scene and be brought up-to-date would be appreciated.

I think you may be digressing

If any single poster puts together two on-topic catch-up posts - one for Boneyarders interested in Portal and not related to UConn players, and one related to UConn expressed interest from the Portal - then it's not a digression.

I don't demand response to my requests, not do I expect it generate many results. It's just what I'd like, band I believe I'm not the only one who would like it.

If it digresses from what has accumulated thus far, I'd be happy to have two more focused options.

I'm assuming we are going after a veteran PG in the portal? If so, what are some of the possible (realistic) choices that likely will be out there?

Don't think there's anything to say yet. There have been 9000 guys entering the portal; two have mentioned UConn, 8998 have said nothing, and the other thread is fighting over whether JC or Hurley played freshmen enough. Someone implied we should've tanked the season and played the freshmen from the start. So yeah, peak 'yardin over there.

But there's nothing to say since we don't know who is portaling on our end and if there is any mutual interest. Any portal kid/agent can name drop us. It doesn't mean it is reciprocal.

Thanks, helpful.

I'll follow this thread and treat the other like an interminable recruiting thread. I'll check in starting with the most recent page, and go back 1 or 2 to pick up anything related to UConn that isn't in this thread.

Ideally, the full-topic thread will get a reboot/replacement upon the onset of the new month or April 9th.

Please no guards under 6’3 at the very least
You realize our first 4 titles came with starting PGs under 6-foot-3?

I mean, I'd kill for another Tristen, and I hope we get Nait George (who I believe is our top priority). But I don't think the staff is ruling out anyone who can do the job of high-level shot creation at this point.

You realize those titles were under diff coaches that played different systems?

Sure, if there's a Kemba, Khalid, Bazz, Boat out there and they want to come here. Grab them. Unless it's someone spectacular like that it's not worth it considering it looks like Solo and Braylon will be starting at shooting guard and small forward. That would make us pretty miniature height wise and we're already skinny.

They're tall?
They may be tall but don’t expect them to the interior players we need. Adams is 6’5 175 pounds. Reibe’s weakness is he is weak. Mullins is 6’6” but not an interior player. We need someone who can be a force inside

Miss you.

Not portal, but we offered Nate Ament who hasn’t committed yet.

Running a very different offense than any of those teams ran. I think a short PG makes it difficult to execute our offense. I suppose we could go back to "beat your man" style offense but I sure hope not. It was too easy for teams to swallow up Diarra and Mahaney and force the ball to move backwards or laterally. Need people who can throw over defenders. We had to use Liam to do that because he was the only guy with passing skills who could.

I'd trade slick ball handling for size with vision every day in this offense. Curious to see who we target.

I'm pretty sure this is the first player UConn has ever offered that I've covered before.

Monroe mid-major 4 who will be a legit 4 at the high-major level.

6'7 220 w/ one year remaining and native of Newburgh, NY. Averaged 18.1p, 9.1r, 2.3s, 49 2P%, 27 3P%, 83 FT%.

You'd like to see better shooting ratios at the 4 spot, but Monroe had the 69th (nice) shot usage rate in the nation, so many of those shots were forced in Quinnipiac's high tempo offense (20th in offensive tempo). One of the best athletes/defenders in the MAAC, so there are a lot to like about his game. Can also create off-the-dribble and get to the rim.
