2019/20 UConn Recruiting

Cooper and DeShields played with each other in the 2015-16 season at Tennessee.
Thanks for the correction! ;) I got mixed up on Diamond's redshirt year and the year Te'a injured her knee. Nevertheless, despite being close friends, they never got a chance to play more than a year together due to unforeseen circumstances (ie. Te'a's injury and Diamond's early departure). And I'm not trying to imply that they both chose UT solely based on their friendship. Rather, that we shouldn't assume close friends of commits are "locks" for a university, because nothing guarantees that they'll play together (injuries, transfers, etc).

I’m guessing she doesn’t have that finesse about her that I like to see, all highlights I have seen of her have been boring. Jones, Owusu, Buekers, Fudd all have more exciting highlights. It’s not important for me to see, I’m not a coach. Just stating my perspective as a fan. I’m not upset about her going to ND; UConn always get every recruit their supposed to get, so does ND, and everybody else and it’s their time to get a number one recruit. And Hopefully the fact that Muffet saw it benefits her and gives her ample opportunities and better luck of Irish from having to wait 17 years to win another Natl championship.
@DeeHusky if your only basis of comparing these players is highlight tapes that is is both lazy and completely inadequate because you have so much more information available to you. I don't know how you would distinguish between Brunelle or Jones highlight tapes because in those tapes every player makes every shot and every pass leads to an assist. What other information is available to you ?
1) USA basketball full games are on line.
2) HS high level competition like Tournament of Champions etc.
3) Hoopgurlz, Prospects Nation, All Star Girls Report & Blue Star.
4) Player evaluation after these tournament.
5) EYBL complete games are streamed and seasons stats are posted after games.
6) Several BY posters actually taken the time to go watch these players play live and share their thoughts about the players.
Having said all that when someone calls a Brunelle highlight tape "boring" I get suspicious- because Samantha is far from boring.

It doesn’t take all of that for me. Your perspective is for you and mine is for me. I saw supplementary and not necessarily cornerstone that’s that. I don’t care if it seems suspicious because I honestly feel like every school gets all the recruits that they’re supposed to get. I’m a firm believer in everything working itself out. Some people just aren’t built for UConn jersey and that will always be that! She’ll be great at Notre Dame and hopefully she does fantastic just not against UConn!

You offer the number one player in the nation that also is closely connected to several other incredibly talented players that you dearly want in your program and then supposedly cut off communication with her even though she has shown serious interest....and then when she chooses another suitor after you backed off, somebody denies that she was ever even offered.....now it may not have been a UConn source that denied it but UConn should have gotten in front of this and made nice because now you have alienated the other two players and just looked bad ....

correct you are sir...

You are listening to the posting of a proclaimed close source of Brunelle and taking what they say as fact. I didn't believe a word of what that "friend" of Brunelle said. UConn is notorious for offering late and I think that something didn't feel right about her (whatever that may be) during her visit and that is why she was never offered.

There is no proof to this statement and absolutely no need for such provocative language unsubstantiated.

It is absolutely substantiated by twitter feeds, photos, and above all else, rumblings in the AAU/recruiting community. I have directly spoken to 3 different people that are heavily involved in WCBB recruiting and they all say they "would be absolutely floored if Bueckers didn't end up at ND". When I asked about Fudd, they said "also definitely a strong ND lean" and that she "fell in love with ND and the thought of playing together with Brunelle/Bueckers during her visit to South Bend in October". They also said that "Fudd has a strong connection with ND being that she goes to the same HS as Lindsey Allen". Believe what you want, but the writing is on the wall!

Worst kept secret in the recruiting world?
Take a deep breath. There is no evidence of this being the case.
I'll throw out a guess. PB and Fudd end up at UCONN, despite their friendship with Sam). On top of that, I think if Bueckers doesn't play for Geno, she stays home and plays for the Minnesota Gophers.

You want to make a wager on that?

The good news for Husky Nation is that you're pretty much wrong about everything when it comes to recruiting. For months you told us Megan Walker was going to Notre Dame. Then you made a last minute switch and predicted Texas. You told us Christyn Williams was going to South Carolina or Texas. You also told us ONO would pick either FSU or South Carolina.

But hey, you may be right for the first time.

Bob Corwin on the recent Boo Williams U16 tournament:

Paige Bueckers, 5-11, guard, 2020, North Tartan 15s EYBL (St. Louis Park, Minnesota) MVP

Coming in, Bueckers was the player with the most rep in the division. She did not disappoint posting strong outings game after game. It was not just scoring but also setting up teammates. While she hit outside shots, her penetrations brought repeated wows from those watching. Considered top ten nationally, she is being recruited by elite national programs.

I think we should all keep an open mind with regard to 2020 and beyond. The friendship among Samantha, Paige, and Azzi is well documented, but there are other factors involved. Paige won’t sign a LOI for 18 months, and Azzi won’t sign for 30 months. We saw that Samantha apparently went from a strong UConn lean to a ND commit in 3.5 months. Things can change.

We need to hope Notre Dame's interest in Bueckers and Fudd wanes? I can't put money down on that, Milford.

I don’t expect ND’s interest to wane. But Paige and Azzi are still young. Their values and goals are still evolving. Play with Sam or play for Geno? Not an easy question to answer.

Following tweets and posts are in reference to the Capitals Classic all-star game played in DC Saturday. Sam Brunelle did not play despite reports that she would.

The US stars led by Bueckers, Fudd, Angel Reese, and Jakia Brown-Turner crushed a group of local players.

I'll post the game feed at the end.

I believe Chloe Chapman said she grew up a Uconn fan, not sure if there was any interest from the staff in her, but she could be a decent player if there is a need for a 2019 guard.

Future Stars point guard Paige Bueckers from Hopkins (Minnetonka, Minn.) was the crowd favorite. She had so many no-look and behind-the-back passes, that when she went down on a break and started to wrap the ball behind her back, the defender reacted and Bueckers brought it back around for a nearly uncontested layup.

“I tried to put a show on for the crowd — that’s why they were here, to see a bunch of great players coming to play together,” Bueckers said. “We wanted to win, that was the first goal, but the second goal was to put on a show for the crowd.”

Only a sophomore, Buecker was her state’s player of the year. One reason she came to the game is she and Future Stars teammate Azzi Fudd of St. John’s are friends from playing for the USA Basketball U16 team last summer.

“I just want to say thanks for (St. John’s coaches) Jonathan Scribner and Tim Fudd for inviting me out here,” Bueckers said. “This is the first all-star game I’ve been a part of and it was really fun. Obviously, Azzi is one of my closest friends so staying at her house was a lot of fun. I tried to warn the other players that sometimes my passes are out of the blue. The Hopkins players are used to that.”

So, Sam is no longer besties with Paige and Azzi? ;)

Chloe is rated #35 and plays at Kaili’s alma mater. She had 9 assists and 4 steals. Paige had only 4 assists, but they must have been spectacular.

Well if Paige and Azzi appear at UConn games next season, I think their options are still open. I don’t see the point in wasting money to attend games of a university your not interested in
Good point.

Good point.

You can bet there's going to be an even bigger basketball recruiting weekend during football season at ND next fall.............they'll probably have 10-20 top recruits out there like last year which appeared to be very successful.................really no way to counter that kind of flashy recruiting effort...............UConn just going to have them at games one or two at a time like always............
