We're gonna miss Corey ... He's been a plus guy to have putting our program on the map nationally... Hoping whoever his dad replaces him with brings that similar (if not better) edge... keep us building relevance out west....

I wonder if there are ways to circumvent the rules, maybe have HCRE pay TECE directly, maybe have him work as a personal assistant to HCRE something along those lines?

Love going after these guys with "interest" from the big boys but no offers - I think this is a good strategy for where we are at. This kid has unofficially visited Florida, Clemson, and Tennessee and also is listed as having interest from Auburn and Arizona, but only official offer is Florida Atlantic - maybe a step slow or a bit too small for that level but could absolutely help us - Mensah was a similar guy with a Michigan PWO offer - you offer and then just hope one of those schools doesn't get far enough down their list to offer.

Later this week, maybe tonight I will post an update of the projected roster using Southpaw22's excel format.

The one notable change is given Eli Thomas is on campus and practicing with the team, I count him as currently using a scholarship. With the Aussie punter on reported to also be on scholarship, I think we are looking at a full roster of 85 kids presently on scholarship with Mason Donaldson continuing to participate as a walk on.

Without early attrition which we all expect, there is room to add 5 more kids next year, but only four more after you grant one scholarship to Mason Donaldson.

If we don't get early attrition ahead of the NLI date, I would guess the four remaining slots are used as 2 DL, 1 RB and 1DB. They could go to the JUCO market after spring practices where certainly a few more kids would drop out to create room to grab a TE, another RB and another DL. Of course injuries and everything else could change priorities, but this is my guess for now.

Parting comment, could we see Jay Rose at DE next year?
 
Exit 4: maybe you weren't around in the 2003-2009 HCRE time frame. I'm telling you what's coming. We haven't seen any evidence that Terry Richardson has been involved in recruiting. He has. The 3rd week in January, we are going to have 3 to 6 visitors from FL. Often they are kids disenchanted with earlier commitments (often overrecruited). There has to be at least one RB.

There's evidence... he's been in Georgia w/ Lashlee sniffing out RB's. I agree there will be a sleeper in the mix from Florida as well.

Can't wait to see that happen. But until then my mind obsesses over the little facts we do know. We really need the last 4 , 5 or 6 kids to be high quality if we want to be more than a 5 win team.

This is pretty big news. It is reported that Mimes is visiting on 12/8, then Rutty the following weekend. We could really use a guy like him at DE. Long arms, tackles downward. Looks like he has room to grow stronger and improve his technique. This is a kid with upside.

I hope he decides to head north and get away from attending school in the backyard. Come north where he will get more playing time sooner.

Yeah, seems to be the case. I think all of them are at least 6'1''. I noticed today Banks claims 4.43 speed in his HUDL page. Banks' junior tape indicates he does not shy from contact. Speed and penchant for contact are key elements to the Safety position. Banks is one of my sleepers for next year.

Does anyone know of any interest by UConn in Spencer Lockwood from Killingly? I know his competition is really suspect but he did just have 225 yds against Capital in a win and avg 242 on the year. I hate to think he doesn't get at least a walk on offer from his home state.
 
If I learn how to post a shared doc on google links this week, I'll be able to show a plan in excel to get 8 more kids this recruiting class and meet the 25 slot annual cap. The plan assumes Donaldson is given a scholarship in January (and Keating remains off scholarship), but I'm not including him as one of the eight (so nine including Donaldson). Based on the best available info, we have room to add five now (four net of Donaldson), while anything after that would require players to exit the program early. The ceiling for this cycle is actually nine more kids (ten including Donaldson) which would require 5 kids to exit early. However to get to nine more kids, it would require not only 5 kids to exit early, but one more kid to enter the program early in Jan 2018 which would allow them to count towards unused space from the 2017 class. By my count we have 2 unused slots from the 2017 class, but that may actually be three if Omar Fortt as an early enrollee is counted toward the 2016 class. We can only access this unused 2017 capacity if kids come in Jan'18. Nyadu will be using one of these 2017 slots.

The tricky part for the staff is knowing we have four slots that are clear (five if we delay Donaldson's scholarship), but should have addition space once kids make decisions about their future with this team which is a unpredictable process.
 
TOS is reporting that [another recruit - name withheld for now) will also be an early enrollee with Nyadu. So, together those two will count towards our 2017 cap rather than 2018 cap per the recruiting rule below. Therefore, we could get to nine or ten more recruits this cycle if we can get 4 or 5 to exit early.

15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering After Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.8) by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received. (Revised: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)

Also, regarding Mason Donaldson, if we hold off awarding him a scholarship until after spring ball it will not count towards the 25 slot annual cap. That said, I think there is room to add him now and count him as a 2017 add if they choose to do so because Fortt should have counted as a 2016 recruit.

15.5.6.3.6 Aid First Awarded After Second Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete who has been in residence at the certifying institution for at least two academic years may receive athletically related financial aid for the first time without such aid counting as an initial award, provided the aid falls within the overall grant limitation. (Adopted: 1/11/89, Revised: 1/10/90 effective 8/1/90)

With the early signing period, recruiting is going to look a lot different than in the past. Once the coaches know who is not going to sign early, they will have to start recruiting other players just in case the non-early signers decide to look elsewhere. Of course, it's a double edge sword, as kids who don't sign early could get recruited over and end up losing their spot.

If he came up in October when committed to USF he was already having second thoughts... it’s all about fit (on both sides @ both schools). He also recently picked up an offer from Wake Forest.
