17U trials in Colorado

I know you know Miles and Darius have both been on the radar since early last season..NJ really moving up with great back court talent although UConn has not shown much love......

UConn watched Miles at Boo Williams last month:

Of the 45 players remaining, all 17 with possible or confirmed UConn recruiting interest are around.

Bueckers, Jones, Griffin, Clark, Marshall, Miles, Boston, Van Lith, Horston, Eaton, Brink, DeBerry, Ducharme, Fudd, Gusters, Osborne, and Watson.

I've been out of action for a bit............can't place Eaton............also I think it's possible UConn could have interest in Miles' running mate Dominique Darius.............she's no slouch...........

I hadn’t heard anything about UCONN and Eaton, can you confirm this?

Lady Baller Insider Steve Reynolds put together his team after attending the trials:

His first five include:

2019 Haley Jones 6’1” F CA - The Glove (Defense)
I would choose Haley because she can guard multiple positions effectively because how her drive, frame, and length. She gives taller, bigger 4s fits, and she has the footwork and range to hassle quicker, smaller guards. Most importantly, she is outstanding rebounding from the perimeter. At the end of the day, you have to stop people, and Haley is a stopper!

2019 Aliyah Boston 6’4” F MA - The Anchor
Boston has the uncanny ability to block shots and alter shots of even elite athletes. With a lot of bigs her size, you get one or the other, or these attributes come with the propensity to foul. Boston doesn’t do that. She is an anchor in the paint. Boston has commanded the paint all week with her size and length. Her soft hands and ability to finish around the rim are icing on the cake.

2020 Paige Bueckers 5’11” G MN - The Glue
Paige’s energy is infectious, and she can do and is willing to do anything you ask of her. She can run your team, run the floor, or run you out of the gym with her motor. She has scored at all three levels and can make it tough defensively for anyone out on the wing. Paige is unselfish but knows when to turn it on. When considering the CORE Values the Trials Committee shared with us earlier in the week, I think of Paige Bueckers

2021 Azzi Fudd 5’11” G VA - The Professional
Azzi Fudd carries herself like a professional. Always early to the gym…always business-like in her approach…always working for her teams best-shot …that’s the kind of kid I want to travel all over the world with. Not to mention, she gets it done at both ends of the court. Scores on all three levels and has the I.Q. of a great coach. Fudd is a must have for Team USA.

His last 7 include:

2019 Jordan Horston 6’0” G OH - The Anomaly
There are no other players with Horston's combination of raw ability, skill, and length. She’s almost impossible to guard in the open court. Horston can finish over the top of you or set you up with a Ticha Penicheiro like no-look pass. She was arguably the quickest second jumper (see Rickea Jackson) in the gym. She’s adept at making up for her defensive mistakes by using her athleticism and length to get blocks on plays that seem otherwise impossible. Also, important is the fact that she walks and moves on and off the court like she believes she belongs. Her demeanor oozes with confidence and its that confidence that she brings into every session.

2020 Kylee Watson 6’4” C NJ - The Wall
I mean this in the best and sweetest way possible…Kylee Watson is nasty! She is tough and physical. The kind of kid I’m ok with sending my kid with to a place like, say, Minsk, Belarus because Kylee seems like the kind of girl that’s got your back. She sets great screens and is a problem in the pick and roll game. She has an intimidating presence about her that’s needed at the international level. I believe she’s the best option to back up Aliyah Boston without losing toughness in the paint.

Paige Bueckers pushes on the fastbreak and finds Aubrey Griffin with the lefty pass for a layup. At the end Haley Jones swoops in for a layup on the break.

Adamec is on fire. Carl with a piece on Cameron Brink plus some Paige Bueckers thrown in for good measure. Chris Dailey once recruited Brink's mother while at Rutgers.

*

With 18 months to go before she can sign a letter of intent, the recruiting process is on the back burner. She has taken a number of unofficial visits, including a journey east to UConn and South Carolina last November.

"I like watching practices to see what they're like and how the players communicate with each other," Brink said. "I like seeing the campus.

"But it's still so early that I'm not going to worry about it. I'm focused on becoming a better player."

Top 2020 recruit Brink's recruitment a family affair for UConn

Down to 45 from 70.

Notable cuts include from comparing the two lists:

Brooke Demetre
Sasha Goforth
Maddie Burke
Keegan Sullivan
Ramani Parker
Kylie Feuerbach
Jakia Browne-Turner
Madeline Westbeld

LINK

Thanks for the comparison. A few thoughts:
- If memory serves, Ramani Parker stopped playing high school ball after committing to Louisville to train to get ready for AAU ball and the trials.
- Had read a few updates that Maddie Burke was stroking it well, but other guards must be doing that...and more.
- Sasha Goforth looks to be one of the highest-rated Hoopgurlz players (#8) cut. As mentioned, tough, tough competition can force rankings to take a seat at the door (or one had a bad day!).

Getting cut can sometimes be a really good thing if it motivates the player to work harder..............we've seen plenty of great recruits say that it really forced them to confront the weaknesses in their games that they simply didn't want to see.........

18 finalists named - 9 UConn targets minimum

Boston, Brink, Jones, Bueckers, Fudd, Van Lith, Griffin, Horston, Gusters

Plus

Brunelle, Baldwin, Osborne, Belibi, Campbell, Cooke, Jackson, Reese, Taylor

Caitlin Clark has to be the biggest name omission. Course, plenty of good players were going to be left out. If they consider Horston and Fudd guards then they have five elite ones including Bueckers, Van Lith, and Cooke. Horston and Fudd could both play wing but Brunelle's there and there seems to be no way they were going to leave her off the roster.

Based on last year, Van Lith probably beat out Clark for that spot.

Diamond Oliver, Jordyn Oliver, Kylee Watson were also on the team last year and did not make the down select to 18 this year.
Most surprising names among the remaining are Baldwin, Griffin and Osborne-all three have some level of interest in UCONN.

A few other players who were probably last ones out:

Sydney Parrish who apparently made a big push late.

Ashten Prechtel who impressed many observers.

Sarah Andrews who also got caught up in the great glut of guards. Andrews will be a contender for the top 2020 player ranking.

There were four 2022's in the final 45 including PG Camille Jackson who likely has the early lead for #1 prospect.

Also forgot, Kylee Watson missed the final cut. Not shocking to me since her star maybe has dimmed just a tad, but she's the other big name to miss out along with Clark.

Forgot about Miller and Oliver too. Probably could've made 2-3 good teams with the last 45 players.

River Baldwin's going to Florida State.

Here's Mike Flynn's take prior to the final 18 being named. He seemed to expect Clark's absence, and he loves Amari DeBerry...

The gem of this trial though is 6-5 DeBerry (2021) who’s length and shooting touch has many projecting her into the USAB pipeline for years to come.

Good points. The other name that caught my attention was Alli Campbell who has done a very good -- somewhat unexpected job -- of reaching the Final 18.
She joined the Philly Belles this spring, but outlasted her teammates Watson and Burke.

I would rank the remaining 18 players this way by position with the ones in red not making the team.
P: Boston, Gusters, Baldwin
PF: Brink, Jackson
SF: Jones, Brunelle, Belibi, Reese
SG: Horston, Fudd, Taylor, Campbell, Griffin
PG: Bueckers, Van Lith, Cooke, Osborne

If your list comes to fruition we'll have almost the entire UConn priority recruiting list the next two years playing save for Amihere.

Despite the naysayers, I guess Aubrey Griffin really does know how to play basketball............shocked that Caitlin Clark didn't make this team based on how well she played internationally the last time......
