Seeing all these country flavored names and tunes triggered some lyrics in my head from years ago - and I just found it - Pure Prairie League's "Country Song":

A less well known Ian and Sylvia song. This song is about travelling salesmen, which were still a thing when I was a kid.

IMO one of the greatest American songwriters ever. Not nearly as well known as many of the other contenders, a real shame. This song has been covered a bunch of times, by a who's who, so that tells you something.
