Having been one of those who thought some celebrating was excessive in the thrashing of Thailand I am bemused by the notion that Alex's sipping a cuppa , a gesture unseen except maybe on a jumbotron, is an inappropriate celebration. She's drinking their beloved tea, big deal. I thought it was a modestly clever little bit of muscle flexing.

Just a thought here.

If we can't discuss Woman's World Cup Soccer with civil discourse and without insulting or denigrating other's opinions then maybe, just maybe we won't be able to discuss Women's World Cup Soccer on this forum.

As I said, just a thought.
I hope the US team loses.
Are you sure, Biff?

In the snapshot without the motion this looks like the classic, "You're smoking dope" gesture.

Maybe she should have smoked it instead.

I'm sorry, I just have to say here that I really like Lavelle and her "dribbling".

"I think I might have been upstaged," Rapinoe told reporters on Wednesday. "That was next level. That was pretty sharp by Alex."

Sweden takes down the Brits, 2-1 for the 3rd place trophy.

Rapinoe rant on (growing) disparity between USWNT/USMNT pay...

- FIFA doubles women's WC prize $$ in 2023 from $30 to $60 million.

- FIFA increases men's WC payout for 2022 from $400 to $440 million.

- So the disparity increases from -$370 to -$380 million.

FIFA scheduling two major men's finals (Copa América, Gold Cup) on the exact same day as the WWC final is a true head-scratcher. I just don't get that at all.

Come on now. The complaint is that the men got boosts that were ten times larger. Thus the gap grows, not shrinks. The objections and issues being advocated by the USWNT are legit, as are the same issues being addressed by the players of the WNBA.

Lets go USA. Unlike some of the earlier KO games where we came in woth lest rest than our opponent, we have the extra day and Netherlands had the OT periods to sap some of their energy. The 2 best crowd bases will make this a real spectacle but the stars are aligned for a good decisive win. Hope my favorite player Rose Lavelle can play.

Ah but if you frame it like the women do, the Women's game got a 100% increase while the Men's game only got a 10% increase......unfair!

Leaving your best player on the bench again.:(

I am not a Jill Ellis fan, but I disagree on that. Horan is very talented on offense and passes really well. But she is fairly slow, which hurts the team some on defense. And Mewis is also a very good player. Hard to go wrong with either of them. I am sure we will see Horan by the 65' mark, which is a nice time to have a great player coming in when everyone else is tired.

I am with you on that. I really tried with this group but for me personally I find them impossible to root for.

Those who cannot, for whatever reason, support their own nation's team (composed of fine women), have other options: North Korea, The Soviet Socialist Republic of Putinistan, The Phillipines... Just pick one and give them your heartfelt, red-blooded, enthusiastic loyalty. ;)

I'll be happily and energetically rooting for the U.S. team.

For all the experts who thought this would be the easiest of the KO opponents, not the case. The US is playing with intensity and effort but the Netherlands are holding their own. We have had our chances but their goal tender has been excellent

Today feels like sports watching heaven (for me as a fan of soccer and volleyball):
  • WWC final
  • Copa America final
  • Gold Cup final
  • Beach volleyball world championships men's final
  • Indoor women's Volleyball Nations League final between US and Brazil
  • And a few WNBA games thrown in for as a tip

That goal by Rose Lavelle was sweet. She has been the unsung hero of this tournament, perhaps not so unsung anymore. I was afraid her hamstring injury from the semifinal would keep her out of the final. We've witnessed the emergence of a star.
