Wichita St. to AAC Next Year (Officially Official)

Men's basketball is what put UConn on the map and we are all concerned with the state of our program right now, one of those reasons being we are stuck in a dreadful conference and don't have enough good people to play. We add a school who has been to 6 straight tournaments including a final 4, is ranked in the top 10 heading into next season, pays their coach more than any other school in our conference and has more people come out to watch their games than anyone else in the conference and people are mad. This board defies all logic sometimes.

What am I wrong about? That in the past 40 seasons they've had three separate coaches take them to a Sweet 16? Good for them

Wichita State is a decent basketball program, that has over achieved and outkicked their coverage with Marshall. If he resigned today, how many on here would want them? That's my point.

I just hate to see our Frankenstein league become even more spread out and add a few more hayseed schools we have nothing in common with.
You could say much the same of UConn. A hayseed school that outkicked its coverage. Isn't that what we were? Many still see us that way. I tire of the arrogance really.

We are the misfit in this league. Not them. Maybe Tulane as well from an academic perspective. But our basketball program needs to play in a league that has at least some respect. This will help a lot. Marshall is a top ten paid coach. He's not leaving any time soon.

.-.
That clown school's basketball team is currently better than any basketball team in this clown conference and their baseball team is always better than any team in this clown conference.

You're pretending that basketball or baseball mean something. They don't. Only football matters. The media outlets will greet this news with a collective yawn.

Ca't disagree with this more.

UConn is the large state school (the only one) of a state of 3.6 affluent people.

It has an academic reputation.

I mean, there is just no comparison whatsoever.

If anything, UConn should have performed better prior to its BE entrance.

Because it boosts our attendance. The #6 shockers come to town and we show em what its like when we get the joint rockin and put a beatin on em. Competition makes us better and puts butts in the seats. Butts in the seats gives us good optics for any realignment in the future. Its a means to the end.

And, once again, NOBODY cares about basketball. Nobody that might become involved in CR, nobody at the networks, nobody period, except for those of us that are UCONN fans living in the past. The glory days of the Big East basketball league and being in a BCS conference are over with. Until such time as football becomes secondary, which doesn't appear likely to ever happen, adding basketball only schools to the dumpster fire league which is the AAC is like trying to change it back to the Old Big East Lite.

Adding Wichita State or any other basketball only school sets us up for the exact kind of implosion that doomed the old Big East to failure. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.

If the AAC was really concerned with trying to improve the conference, they'd be out there looking for up and coming football, not basketball schools.

Uh...CTE.

.-.
Wichita st. is a final four contender next year.
They make a final eight or four run, that is prestige this conference hasn't had since Louisville left.
We could actually go out and recruit and not be ashamed of our conference. I think KO is ecstatic about this.
I'm wondering what's in it for Wichita St. to be honest. Why risk the AAC dragging THEM down.

Um...you want to play Loyola and Drake on the road?

.-.
Not if they lose in their conference tourney. One slip up, and it's potentially game over.

Potentially but not likely. They schedule up and get in rpi wise. They have the rep. now too.

For Wichita State, this is a no brainer. They went 30-4 and barely made the tournament. We got a 9-seed two years ago and people pretend we would have missed the tournament if it weren't for Adams' shot...and our league got 3 other teams in. Wichita was a 10 and alone.

It's not a no brainer for the AAC, but I'm at worst ambivalent. This seems like a net positive, by and large.

If that is a ranked team perennially in the top 25 what is the downside? I hear what if they fall off? Well what if we fall off? We don;t know how long we will be here in AAC so let us play a ranked team in conference. This is a good thing.

There really is a big lack of understanding about Wichita St. basketball here.
Wichita State was 30-4 and viewed as a top 10 team by oddsmakers yet they were given a 10 seed and had to face Kentucky in the second round. Don't know what point you are trying to make.

Okay. Tell me why they would want to play Illinois State over Cincinnati? Bradley over UConn? Evansville over Temple? Loyola over Memphis?

Or are you mentioning their history. Because they have more Final Fours than Tulsa, Tulane, East Carolina, SMU, UCF, USF.

They have as many Final Fours as Wichita State, and one is more recent by over 20 years than Houston's most recent. They have as many Final Fours as Temple...and they BOTH are more recent. They have more non-vacated Final Fours than Memphis.

I dont give a damn about the conference unless we're banished here forever. For uconn, this is a short term gain in a short term scenario. We're all hip that football money drives the bus. Basketball has the ability to keep uconn athletics in the limelight and we need that optic to help in getting us out of the AAC. Football is going to carry the load but if it cant hoops needs to help out until football can. A non football school neither adds nor retracts anything on the football side.

TL:DR - leave aac before blows up. Need to look great in all sports to get new conference. Need attendance. Need fans. Show me the money.

I think most of us agree that you don't seem to have any idea what you're talking about.
On Wichita State to the AAC, the responses range from "this is okay I guess" to "this sucks."

No response has been "What is Wichita State doing?" Because it's obvious why they would want to join a basketball conference of UConn, Cincy, Memphis, SMU, Temple. To us, a chit conference; to them, this is a godsend.

LOL let me enlighten you.
Wichita St has an easy pass to the NCAA tournament every year. They seem to be doing quite well with that. They seem to recruit quite well with that. Even make a final four in that dreadful conference.
Is it beyond comprehension not to give that up for a few seed lines? And that's all it would be, a few seed lines.
And all of a sudden the AAC has turned into the ACC in this case when you've done nothing but crap on this league in every other thread?
Which way does your wind blow tomorrow?

To the naysayers it would do you some good to realize that in 10 years UConn will not be in the AAC anyway.
For the near term good and enjoyment add as much quality in any sport that you can and then cross off the years til we are back in the Big East or get a P5 invite.
And adduhg Wichita state is not going to hurt us financially
Chill.
