Why cant this program act normal

thats great bill. have you noticed they never win. ever stop to wonder why?

this isn’t coach speak it’s pure idiocy.

it’s diaco level incompetence.

get a clue.

No it isn't. Maybe in your world it is, but in mine it is just Edsall doing what he does.

Don't sweat the small stuff whaler

Let me see. Coaches get together before the game and decide which 22 guys are going to start on 1st play on offense and defense. They know who will cycle in 1st as RB, WR and TE. They know who will cycle in on DL, LB, DB and passing downs. Then there is who goes in if QB or OL guys get hurt.

HCRE2.0 has a 2 deep, he just doesn't feel like showing it 'cause he doesn't have to and no one can make him do it.

With so many new players, any normal two deep would be chocked full of "OR's". We know Edsall likes to think outside the box. Once we start watching the game we'll be able to figure it out. If the first wave of players who hit the field are efficient and are substituted for without hesitation, avoiding delay of game penalties or unnecessary time outs--and everyone appears to know their assignment on the play call, I foresee this approach instilling more competitive confidence in the team. And if we win-- I'll be calling it the new paradigm.

I’m waiting for half time of the Illinois game to judge. I’ll be a little surprised if this approach is kept all season, seems more like the thing to do for the first four games. As others have said their are a lot of “ors” with the back ups on this roster.... practically every position. We are also have a few positions where I think the staff is toying with playing true freshman again all season and they are unsure if it’s really the right move until we see a few games.

To transfer where? FCS?
Lol, yeah - sure. For a some positions like LB we can’t even afford to our FCS talent level players run away just yet or we will be unable to conduct practice. We have a roster with just 77 scholarship players (2 academically ineligible and 6 unfilled slots).

For the next four games Edsall might keep some kids and us fans guessing about back ups, but it probably become obvious to all including the kids four games in. And at that time If some hit the portal - then so be it- just don’t want a couple kids running there now without having seen the entire squad play some games.

edsall has been coach here for a billion years.

why this genius idea now.

lets say exit 4 is right and its an attempt to keep kids out of the portal... how is that not a red flag flying over the rent?

We know Edsall likes to think outside the box.

have you ever read anything this ridiculous in your entire life.

the ghost of bob diaco arrives and now its well who cares what he says or does because i only care if they win... that’s the same stupidity people spewed abut diaco when they had the same root problem - fcs recruiting

Collins & Edsall must have attended the same session @ AFCA this year:

Geoff Collins bringing a different approach to scout teams

>>“Everything we do is about development,” he said. “We are a developmental program, so we don’t call them scout teams. We call them developmental teams.”<<

>>In essence, rather than carrying out opponents’ plays, developmental team members are getting repetitions at the assignments that they’ll have to execute when they’re out on the game field. It’s one way of developing players to get “above the line,” which is Collins’ version of a depth chart. Players who are above the line are deemed capable of contributing in games. All players above the line will play in games, Collins has said.

“So they just continue to develop and they have a chance to get rewarded either by traveling or being moved up (off the developmental team) because their play forces us to move them above the line,” Collins said.<<

not as appalled as I was... still not excited about it either... If it works internally, I guess it would be an example of a system change that helps grow a more inexperienced program.

Geoff Collins...what a bad coach/weirdo!

What I learned is that every other major FBS is more concerned with releasing a depth chart than winning games. We just happened to be the one program that only cares about winning games. Period.

IMHO, this is much ado about nothing. Would I like to see the 2 deep, sure. Does not having one ruin my day or make me think differently, no.

Another take. By others count, we have 77 names. ~4 are specialists, so we have 73-ish. We know our 2 deep likely has 5-6 ORs, so we are pining for a list of 50 names, excluding specialists. Now, we have about 5-6 true frosh who should not see the field. So we’re really mad we won’t publish a list of names (excluding specialists) of everyone but a dozen guys. Really?

it’s a symptom of a completely broken dumpster fire. you hit on another one too. playing down 6 scholarships and having four scholarship kickers/punters.

this is the kind of nonsense you pull when 7 years of fcs recruiting leaves you a roster that can’t compete

You're stretching a bit...

You can't complain about not posting a two-deep, and then complain about having two of a position. It's sort of unpossible.

Going into a season with only 1 usable K or P or LS would be significantly worse. We've done that before, too...

lol - come on. having a two deep doesnt mean you need 4 scholarship kickers and punters.

I don’t understand the hand wringing about this at all. It’s a non-issue.
Agreed
Just shows how far some fans have sunken too. To actually create a thread over a non issue- where all that should matter is the product on the field- analyze and critique that- but this?
Sad man

99% of college and professional football teams put out a two deep to start the season.

We're over here talking about participation teams and development squads.

We've also won 18 games the past 8 seasons.

Yeah, keep telling yourself this kind of stuff is normal and everyone is overreacting and everything is fine.

i dont know what is worse?

1. too dopey to actually get what is going on
2. too much of a sycophant to admit how broken things are

Would you compare it with Key starters vs non Key starters?

I really gotta think that even the 1% fanboys here deep down have to know this is program in general is sheer lunacy.

As long as Edsall doesn't yank Beaudry if/when (big if) we get into the red zone, I'll still give Whacko Diaco the edge there.

I'm of the perception of Exit 4 that this is a ploy to have players not jump for the transfer window, which is good for the program short term, but also of your view that it says something about how hot the dumpster fire is.

With that being said and your 'program is broken' beliefs, serious question, outside of releasing a 2-deep, how do you propose the program be fixed? Are you in the Serrano camp where we should just close the lid on the dumpster, or do you just wish we hired some other coach & all would be right with the world?

I wish we had the funds to pony up for some hotshot (Les Miles would never have come here but if we were able to shove 3mil in his face, maybe it would've spoken loudly enough) but we know that's not happening until we get into a better conference situation, and that may never happen.

When the season ends fire everyone. Find every penny you can dig up and make the best hire you can make.

They might not win either but until they get someone(s) who can recruit this ain’t gonna change.

If they are afraid of the transfer portal they are already d.o.a this season. The more they preach brotherhood and family the more it sounds like they are trying to convince themselves.

Nobody said it’s normal. But what does putting out a two deep have to do with performance on the field? There will be 11 starters on offense and 11 on defense. All 68 participants won’t be on the field at the same time. This conformist mentality is sad
Who really cares what 99% of college teams are doing?

Yeah, UTEP will be putting out a 2 deep....Get my point?
Just go out and compete. Who cares about the window dressing?

Actually no. I’m positive there is a legitimate starting lineup and he’s deciding to do things the way he wants-which has always been the way he operates.

There’s also a chance he’s playing games with how the opposing teams will scout/prepare for us.
If there's a legitimate starting lineup then he should say so. He's not fooling anybody. This team barely won a game last year. Anybody scouting us will watch the Wagner game and know exactly who is playing where.

All this move tells me is that there are a lot of positions where no one solidified themselves as starting caliber, so he's going the throw s*** at the wall and hope it sticks (again).

This sounds like Diaco's exhibition games all over again.

The program can't compete, due to leadership which can't get out of its own way. An example being, not releasing a 2-Deep like every other program.

it’s like Edsall took his Maryland experience and took away the opposite of what he should have learned.

no cell phones in the dining hall. galaxy brain stuff.
