Maybe you can coach them from your couch or computer chair at work.

I would like a two deep, but in all honesty all I care about is winning games.

thats great bill. have you noticed they never win. ever stop to wonder why?

this isn’t coach speak it’s pure idiocy.

it’s diaco level incompetence.

get a clue.

How is this incompetence? You do realize that they will start 11 guys on offense and 11 guys on defense right? So that will be the 1’s.
I know. Captain Obvious.
The players all know who takes 1 reps and who takes 2 reps.

There’s a portion of the two deep that has an “or” anyways. This eliminates that.
Guys will have to compete until game day to earn the right to get on the field.

I'd be a lot more upbeat if not for the participation list. There were a lot of moments in that video that had me believing it's really coming together, then he hit us with the participation list. I don't understand that at all.

Everybody that complains RE is behind the times needs to appreciate the participation list for what it really is. It shows the refreshing new thought process of the modern american male.

Just think, he'd even fit in today in california where convicted felons are now called "justice-involved persons" and those on probation are called "persons under supervision". Cut RE some slack and appreciate his new outlook on life.

This came out a lot dumber than you probably thought it would.

if there was a legitimate starting lineup, Randy would be putting it out there. It’s concerning that he isn’t.

Randy's always been consistently weird with the media and posters on here have been reliably defensive of this really pointlessly weird stuff.

Nobody else does this. There's plenty of other weirdo coaches but they manage to release a two-deep.

Oh, I forgot He Inherited A Bad Situation. Not disputing that, but can someone let us know what year that excuse finally expires? 2022? 2030?

Actually no. I’m positive there is a legitimate starting lineup and he’s deciding to do things the way he wants-which has always been the way he operates.

There’s also a chance he’s playing games with how the opposing teams will scout/prepare for us.

Thoughts as to why? Your depth chart is YOUR depth chart. Have to admit this is bizarre.
"Hey anyone have the two deep?"
"I thought you had it"
"Seriously no one has it?"
"Sorry Randy you want me to go get it?"
"Nah fook it, I'll just make something up."

No it isn't. Maybe in your world it is, but in mine it is just Edsall doing what he does.

Let me see. Coaches get together before the game and decide which 22 guys are going to start on 1st play on offense and defense. They know who will cycle in 1st as RB, WR and TE. They know who will cycle in on DL, LB, DB and passing downs. Then there is who goes in if QB or OL guys get hurt.

HCRE2.0 has a 2 deep, he just doesn't feel like showing it 'cause he doesn't have to and no one can make him do it.

With so many new players, any normal two deep would be chocked full of "OR's". We know Edsall likes to think outside the box. Once we start watching the game we'll be able to figure it out. If the first wave of players who hit the field are efficient and are substituted for without hesitation, avoiding delay of game penalties or unnecessary time outs--and everyone appears to know their assignment on the play call, I foresee this approach instilling more competitive confidence in the team. And if we win-- I'll be calling it the new paradigm.

I’m waiting for half time of the Illinois game to judge. I’ll be a little surprised if this approach is kept all season, seems more like the thing to do for the first four games. As others have said their are a lot of “ors” with the back ups on this roster.... practically every position. We are also have a few positions where I think the staff is toying with playing true freshman again all season and they are unsure if it’s really the right move until we see a few games.

To transfer where? FCS?
Lol, yeah - sure. For a some positions like LB we can’t even afford to our FCS talent level players run away just yet or we will be unable to conduct practice. We have a roster with just 77 scholarship players (2 academically ineligible and 6 unfilled slots).

For the next four games Edsall might keep some kids and us fans guessing about back ups, but it probably become obvious to all including the kids four games in. And at that time If some hit the portal - then so be it- just don’t want a couple kids running there now without having seen the entire squad play some games.

edsall has been coach here for a billion years.

why this genius idea now.

lets say exit 4 is right and its an attempt to keep kids out of the portal... how is that not a red flag flying over the rent?

We know Edsall likes to think outside the box.

have you ever read anything this ridiculous in your entire life.

the ghost of bob diaco arrives and now its well who cares what he says or does because i only care if they win... that’s the same stupidity people spewed abut diaco when they had the same root problem - fcs recruiting

Collins & Edsall must have attended the same session @ AFCA this year:

Geoff Collins bringing a different approach to scout teams

>>“Everything we do is about development,” he said. “We are a developmental program, so we don’t call them scout teams. We call them developmental teams.”<<

>>In essence, rather than carrying out opponents’ plays, developmental team members are getting repetitions at the assignments that they’ll have to execute when they’re out on the game field. It’s one way of developing players to get “above the line,” which is Collins’ version of a depth chart. Players who are above the line are deemed capable of contributing in games. All players above the line will play in games, Collins has said.

“So they just continue to develop and they have a chance to get rewarded either by traveling or being moved up (off the developmental team) because their play forces us to move them above the line,” Collins said.<<

not as appalled as I was... still not excited about it either... If it works internally, I guess it would be an example of a system change that helps grow a more inexperienced program.

What I learned is that every other major FBS is more concerned with releasing a depth chart than winning games. We just happened to be the one program that only cares about winning games. Period.

IMHO, this is much ado about nothing. Would I like to see the 2 deep, sure. Does not having one ruin my day or make me think differently, no.

Another take. By others count, we have 77 names. ~4 are specialists, so we have 73-ish. We know our 2 deep likely has 5-6 ORs, so we are pining for a list of 50 names, excluding specialists. Now, we have about 5-6 true frosh who should not see the field. So we’re really mad we won’t publish a list of names (excluding specialists) of everyone but a dozen guys. Really?

it’s a symptom of a completely broken dumpster fire. you hit on another one too. playing down 6 scholarships and having four scholarship kickers/punters.

this is the kind of nonsense you pull when 7 years of fcs recruiting leaves you a roster that can’t compete

You're stretching a bit...

You can't complain about not posting a two-deep, and then complain about having two of a position. It's sort of unpossible.

Going into a season with only 1 usable K or P or LS would be significantly worse. We've done that before, too...
