Do you think Frost’s off the field escapades will come into consideration when schools are searching for a new coach? If Buffalo beats Nebraska on Saturday, Scott Frost may be available.![]()

Hate to say it. His accolades are really great. If the team succeeds under him and wins. Why couldn’t he be in the run for head coach. What happens if all of a sudden all the players want to play for him and we win. I understand what you are saying. I agree if the teams does well with him as an interim coach I wouldn’t mind if they are interested.I would like to see Spanos succeed. It is rare that an interim succeeds. But, I never really heard that much about Dabo before he took over for Clemson. That has worked out really well. I really don’t understand why people are saying it’s stupid to even consider him. I know UConn will never be Clemson, but if Spanos succeeds and becomes the permanent head coach would that be such a bad thing.
Wasn't Dabo the assistant head before he took over the interim position? Hadn't he been highly regarded as a recruiter? Wasn't he considered an excellent recievers coach for a few years?I would like to see Spanos succeed. It is rare that an interim succeeds. I may grow hair too If I just want it to happen.Hate to say it. His accolades are really great. If the team succeeds under him and wins. Why couldn’t he be in the run for head coach. Didn’t say he wasn’t well regarded. What I said was, “I hadn’t heard much about him!”. I was using him as an example of an interim coach that took over and everything worked out well.Wasn't Dabo the assistant head before he took over the interim position? The fact that you didn't hear about Dabo doesn't mean he wasn't well regarded in the years leading up to his interim position.
Sure, but Dabo is categorically different than Spanos. Forget the fact that Dabo is almost certainly a much much better coach than Spanos (I mean, I guess we don't know yet). But if Spanos were well known as a great recruiter and an up-and-comer across FBS, then the comparison would make sense. He isn't, so the comparison falls apart.Didn’t say he wasn’t well regarded. Using Buffalo as an example of why we don't need an offensive coach is either a joke or an amazing lack of irony detection.this ONLY an Offensive Coach is silly
The number ONE criteria for the UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT HEAD COACH is ... they have to understand the tight architecture they have to travel to get the right recruits. Local kids need development. MA & NJ & NY & PA & QC ... a solid smattering of Florida and Georgia for speed. We are in Texas now. Redshirt and develop lines over a few years. AND learn what works in the Transfer market. A Quarterback coach that can really get a kid to stand tall and win. A FBS program in New England is not easy; nor Buffalo or this northern thing.
A HC candidate can be a Defensive Coordinator if he has been in solid programs and had responsibility. And can Coach kids.
I give Spanos a .001% chance of getting the job, but how many wins does it take to give him serious consideration?Sure, but Dabo is categorically different than Spanos. 3? no. 4? maybe. 5? you might not have a choice...
Maybe I'm wrong but I think Mark Nofri as head coach is almost a guarantee UConn will be in FCS in three years after he arrives. I for one don't accept that.Let’s just hire someone with local regional experience and who has been a program builder at a smaller level
again stepping up to bat here for Mark Nofri or someone like that
I don’t think he gets the job either. However, if he can win 2-3 games, play competitively throughout the rest of the season, keep the recruits coming in intact ( which is huge ) then he should be seriously considered. But, again, I don’t think that’s going to happen. I guess we’ll have to wait and sconsider
With the arguments I made I’m sure he would be considered. I guess that’s up to Dave to decide not is. With Spanos accomplishing what I listed I’m sure it’ll be difficult for Dave to look the other way, he would at least give Spanos an interview. No way he’s getting considered
Bring a OC to UCONN that is going to put some fun into the program and points on the board on game day . Kevin Kelley at Presbyterian , who's team scored 84 points there first game called for 5 on side kicks during the game and never punted . That sounds like a lot more fun to watch then UCONN offensive showing in the first two games. Read the Associated Press story that ran in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette after Kelley's first game . This guy carry's a NFL like offensive Play sheet with him and he calls the plays as the Head Coach of Presbyterian . The UCONN fans would love Kelley and his game plan would put some excitement into the program, which it really needs in order to put more fans in the seats at East Hartford. Remember this is suppose to be entertaining something UCONN football game plan really lacks.I don't see any current or recent FBS HC who's not on Viagra and Lipitor taking this job. And I'd want someone with actual HC experience and a bit of life left in them. So my list starts with Scotty Walden of Austin Peay. To me, he's exactly the mad scientist UConn needs to make games fun again and bring a breath of fresh air to Storrs. Only 30, his offenses are dynamite.
Others I'd consider in addition to Bob Chesney:
- Brian Bohannon, Kennesaw St. (50)
- Jay Hill, Weber St. (46)
- Josh Conklin, Wofford (42)
- Matt Entz, ND State (48)
- Scott Abell, Davidson (51)
- Bob Surace, Princeton (53)
- Willie Simmons, Florida A&M (40)
- Troy Taylor, Sacramento St. (53)
- Bobby Hauck, Montana (57)
If we hire a defensive oriented HC, my next call would be to Ryan McCarthy at CCSU to become OC. I believe McCarthy only makes like $137K as HC there, so doubling his salary might get shake him loose.
If he wins 5 games he's got a shot, though there would still be concerns, right, about his ability to recruit and run the program more generally.I give Spanos a .001% chance of getting the job, but how many wins does it take to give him serious consideration?

2-3 games? There's a chance Randy would would won 3 out of the next 10 games...and not a bad chance. Yale and UMass are still winnable. Picking off one more game is unlikely but not absurdly so.I don’t think he gets the job either. I think they may be able to win UMass, Yale, Middle Tenn., and Wyoming. If he wins 5 games he's got a shot, though there would still be concerns, right, about his ability to recruit and run the program more generally.

You took one of three reasons I’ve listed that MIGHT warrant him an opportunity to interview for the job.If he wins 5 games he's got a shot, though there would still be concerns, right, about his ability to recruit and run the program more generally.

Put the challenge out to someone like Saban etc. Can you really coach? Or do you just have the $$ and players to win every year? If you can make UConn a competitive program you could be labeled the best college football coach ever!
Dreaming I know.
UCONN needs a SUPERIOR recruiter & a PREMIER motivator. Both at Vanderbilt and Penn State, Spencer received NATIONAL recognition for BOTH! Plus he's a Hartford guy who has worked and willed his way from the South End to the TOP of his profession!NO, NO, NO. No defensive coaches. UConn needs an offensive minded coach. Someone who teaches offense, recruits offense and can get UConn into the end zone early and often. Defense, for now, needs to take a back seat.
Tough sell on a coach without head coaching experience..UCONN needs a SUPERIOR recruiter & a PREMIER motivator. Both at Vanderbilt and Penn State, Spencer received NATIONAL recognition for BOTH!
