I would call him an idiot. The kid got handed coaching jobs because his last name is Summitt. And he blew what could have been a lifelong postion. How many of you were making a base salary of $175k at 25? Now THAT is stupid.

More proof we are barely out of the trees. Hubris and testosterone, perfect together.

He took over the job after LA Tech legend Theresa Weatherspoon was fired in mid-March 2014 with a 99-71 record over six years.

Summitt’s annual salary was $175,000. During his tenure he was also reimbursed for use of a personal vehicle for university-related activities and received a country club membership.

What would make Tyler a particularly hard hire is that he hasn't done much as a coach. Why would a school want to take on his baggage when, from a coaching reputation perspective, he hasn't much to offer? Lets face it, he got his opportunities because of the Summitt name, and he's now erased that advantage.

I don't know - this may qualify him for a job on Pitino's staff at Louisville

So, I have to say I feel sorry for him. Yep the termination is appropriate...and yes he has no one to blame but himself, but... SMH... just an absolutely stupid thing to do. Especially with his pedigree he should have known that know that an affair with a player is a career ender.

He'll survive, but he's not coaching again, maybe the pros...but I doubt it.

Here's a question...does the student athlete lose her scholarship?

"I am profoundly disappointed in myself for engaging in a relationship that has negatively affected the people I love, respect and care about the most.

What that means engaging in a relationship negatively affected the people I love?
Sounds like he recommended and invested with Bernie Madoff.:)

Absolutely despicable for an adult to take advantage of a young woman and to cheat on his wife.

And if the other rumor is true it will get even worse.

Awful.

Actually I think he's just a year or two older than the player but as a Coach you can't go there.
(And the wife thing...)

If this an active player on his roster, and if it actually is a situation that travelled with him from Marquette, it is very different than the reported issue with Pokey - neither are appropriate but there is a huge power imbalance in one situation that does not translate as clearly to the other.

I think there is a huge difference between infidelity in general between consenting adults and a situation where one member is either placed in a position of responsibility over the other or is in a position of authority over the other.

And yes - being the front person for any entity is probably not something at least in the short term he will likely be allowed to continue.

Not a chance - the school will bend over backward to try an avoid any type of lawsuit, and when one is filed they will settle as quickly and quietly as possible.

He's lucky the girl is 22. If it had been a freshman there's a possibility he could face jail time.

Swish Appeal now reporting the young woman is pregnant. Must be the other shoe reportedly about to drop. What a nightmare scenario.

I am glad Coach Summitt is likely not able to comprehend the magnitude of this, if that is in fact true. His wife though. My heart breaks for her. High school sweethearts. He married her in the midst of said affair ( if she came from Marquette with him, as is being suggested. )

This is one reason you can't give a position with so much responsibility to someone so young, though older people have frequently made the same mistake. As far as Pat is concerned, I'm sure she still has lucid moments and she should be told. How awful would it be if she happened upon it on the internet? I'm sure his wife is especially devastated if it was already occurring when they got married.

He got her pregnant too? God what a mess he's screwed up the lives of 4 people : his, his wife's, the young woman and now a baby's
And the LV fans.
I don't know how much LV fans can take any more.

He has no future in WBB. How can anyone feel sorry for this creep?
From the standpoint that he allowed this to go on for a while with seeming no concern for the severe consequences for himself, the player, his wife, and everyone else ... No I don't feel sorry.

But in thinking about in a short-term sense, that the world has closed in on him and has nearly destroyed his and other lives at 25, I do feel badly. I hope Others have him on suicide watch.

Exactly. It's disgusting and an utter embarrassment for his family- irrespective of the fact that the young girl is his age mate.

I'm astounded at the number of people online who are letting him off the hook and stating that his youth betrayed him. HE IS SELFISH. That's it. It's selfishness that led to his downfall, not his youth. Any 25 year old man with an ounce of integrity and self-respect would have seen that this is entirely unacceptable. As many have stated, I am incredibly devastated that his wife has to live with this...it will be a tough road for her. I pray she finds consolation and peace.

Why was he even given the chance to resign and "wished well"? Why not send the right message and fire him once the news surfaced? The girl is pregnant for goodness sakes. Jeez.

I wish him no further ill will. This is self-inflicted & disgusting. I will not however, feel bad for him.

If I had to guess, it probably costs the University more to fire him (albeit with cause) than if he resigns. But I don't that area of the law very well. The well-wishing, though...I don't know about that. He did the one thing you absolutely can't do.

He's ruined his career and probably his marriage as well, but let's face it, Tyler is not going to be hurting financially. His dad is president of a bank [edit: retired] and his mom is Pat Summitt. And he's an only child.

I'm sure there's some kind of morality clause in his contract that if he does anything that violates it, the university he can be fired without having to pay the full amount remaining on that contract.
