What are you binge watching?

I would give it a solid B. It is funny and original enough to be interesting. The acting is pretty good and I really like the Jackie character.

The show also has its own warped morality which makes it funnier. I am going to rewatch and just focus on Ness. He has some great lines.

My only complaint is the basketball scenes are not great.
Seems to be a Ted Lasso lite, except...basketball.

Prime Target. Apple. I think we're almost at the end. It's a little different take on the whole big government/big corporate conspiracy and ties into mathematics and in particular research by some gifted mathematicians at Oxford. It has shades of a Dan Brown type story with the ancient hidden secrets and archeology impacting modern technology today and of course there is the race to discover coupled with the race to prevent discovery. The leads are fairly appealing, the action is pretty good. Certainly a pretty decent watch for anyone who likes this kind of thing.

I watched some of the first episode. I found it so dense with nerdiness I couldn't finish it. Other than superhero and anime stuff we generally like the same things, so I might have to give this another go.

Finished it last night. I thought it was good, not great. I appreciate some of the nerdiness, but it isn't all that way. Certainly, you don't need to understand the math, just the idea behind what it "unlocks", which is explained more clearly later. It does a good job of connecting past thinkers with present thinkers, and Ed is working on something humans have been trying to solve for centuries.

Poker Face is coming back the first week of May. That's a fun watch.

Started two new shows.

Mobland. Guy Ritchie show with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren? Sold! Paramount+ First episode was excellent. Seems very well done. This clearly has a solid budget as well, both for cast and locations. Brosnan is the boss of a crime family in London. Mirren is his wife and if you saw 1923, well she's that kind of wife here. Hardy is his right hand man and enforcer.

The Bondsman. Stars Kevin Bacon as a bail bondsman who gets killed by a perp. Then he is somehow un-killed. Then the phone starts ringing and he gets a visit when he ignores it. It seems somebody with the power to bring him back needs his particular skills. Haven't seen past episode 1. It's on Prime, half hour episodes and looks promising as a fun, easy to watch show. Bacon is great in the role.

Both good watches. I binged The Bondsman and it was a fun watch. Don’t expect much and you’ll enjoy it. It’s not art, just silly entertainment. Definitely a fan of Kevin Bacon, so it was an easy one for me. I will warn you, that you have to hear him sing. All I can say about that is he’s better than me.

Saw 1st two episodes and it's good. The big plus for me is that I don't need to use subtitles - infinitely easier to follow dialogue than Peaky Blinders was (although based in London, the Harrigan's are Irish through and through). As ruthless as Brosnan's character is, seems like Mirren's is even nastier. Hardy's character really looks and feels like he has the gravitas and confidence to be an effective go-between for the boss(es). So far he's restrained, but I can't imagine that'll last the entire series.

Seems like a standard for his characters in various things I've seen him in--quiet and understated, until it's time to get violent.

I've seen the first three episodes and it is very good but there's an awful lot of moving parts. I've re-watched the episode once at least just to figure out who's who.

Apparently I started "Arcane" on Netflix before, very briefly. I don't really remember it, or why I bailed so fast. Anyway gave it a go, starts a little slow for a few episodes but now I'm fairly much hooked. Based on a video game but I don't think playing it is a requirement for enjoying the show. Good world building and aesthetic, animated steam punk. Don't know most of the voice actors, but it does feature Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, that's not a bad thing at all.

I searched but didn't see any mention of it in this thread, but Shoresy is fantastic. I've ripped through 22 of 24 episodes in a week. It's a raunchy, mindless and feel-good comedy Hockey series from Canada. Super quotable and there are some ridiculously gorgeous women who grace the screen. Jared Keeso also did Letterkenny which I will dial up next.

Through 3 episodes.

I really like this show, but I think there is a plot hole, although three of the characters have mentioned the plot hole, so I am not sure why they are not addressing it.

Tom Hardy is playing the same character he played in Peaky Blinders. He does it well, but it is the same character.

Pierce Brosnan is one of my favorite actors of his generation. He is excellent, although there are better actors, but he is just interesting to watch, and can kind of do anything. He is a true movie/TV star.

I am struggling a little with Helen Mirren's character. Is she really that stupid? She is like a female Sonny Corleone.

Paddy Considine is just a fantastic actor. He plays the not quite tough enough, not quite smart enough son of the boss, but still credible as a capo. He has the hardest role in the show, and he nails it.

The rest of the characters are solid. No weak links.

I'll disagree with the first point, In PB, Alfie Solomon had his own family. In Mobland, Hardy's character so far is simply a fixer. He wouldn't have power w/o the Harrigans. I think the differences between Alfie and Harry will become clearer as the series evolves.

I enjoyed Remington Steele and Brosnan's Bond movies. But when he did The Matador, he really proved to me he was more than just a good looking suave gentleman and could play well out of type and be brilliantly comedic. The Matador got pretty maudlin at the end, but the first half was amazing.

"The Foreigner" was another really good movie w/ Brosnan, and Jackie Chan. While they weren't on screen much together, the whole thing was a tense battle of wills between them.

I finally decided to take on The Handmaid's Tale last weekend. I never had a burning desire to watch it, but things change with each day's news, so I figured it would be a timely and relevant watch. There's not a lot of great stuff streaming right now that I haven't watched, so this will help kill at least a couple weeks till something else comes around. It's more interesting and layered than I expected, although it's a tough watch with extremely little humor to break things up.
I kept putting it off too. Considering it started n 2017(?}, I find it eerily familiar to where the US seems to be headed today. It’s disturbing.

Enjoy the first three seasons. After that it starts getting very repetitive. Same characters, same words, different setting, but we've seen it all before multiple times and it starts to get annoying.

I'm finally caught up. There was actually one belly laugh delivered by Cmmdr. Lawrence in S5. It was well worth the wait.

Helen Mirren's character isn't stupid exactly, she a powerful matriarch. She cares less about the business than about the blood. Protecting her grandson is more important than protecting the business. She's also the most ruthless and most evil person in the organization. She has no moral compass at all. She's not Sonny, imagine a female Jimmy Conway (DeNiro) married to Paulie in Goodfellas. That's her.

Haha...good for you but I still need them. Hardy can be a bit of a mumbler at times. Never saw PB but on my list now...

The obvious move is to get rid of the grandson. It was a staggering lack of discipline by the kid and disrespectful to Conrad. If she is so ruthless, why is she defending her idiot grandson that puts the rest of her family at risk? It actually makes her look stupid and sentimental.

A year late, but finally caught up to "Fallout" on Prime. binged all 8 episodes (first one is 1-1/2 hours, but then they get shorter). Great science fiction/distopian future type thing. Highly recommend.

I read they expect a season 2 in early 2026.

Mythic Quest, Season 4 is really good. There are also 4 Side Quest episodes which are very, very good. Side Quest are episodes about the fictional game in the show from the fans or supporting characters perspectives.

The Franchise (Max) - This is a really good show from the team that did Veep. It is just a funny show mocking Hollywood that was entertaining and surprising, and of course it was cancelled after one season. Worth the watch though.
