What are you binge watching?

Maybe in this thread?

Just wondering. I dont think it belongs here, but that‘s just me. Anyone else?
I'll post over at the youtube clips but I can't delete this post. :(

btw - any idea how he does it?

Running point is a Netflix show about a fictional professional basketball team run by a dysfunctional family. Just a fun comedy.
It's on my list for when I can find absolutely nothing else and have no book to read. Should it be higher than that?

It's not so bad you'll regret it, nor not so good you'll remember it.

I watched all four episodes of Adolescence last night. All episodes are filmed as one shot. Unlike Birdman, many of the scenes are held for very long times which makes the whole thing seem more intimate, and at times very intense. It also gave me a great appreciation for the acting involved in the long scenes, especially the kid who's the main focus of the first three episodes. There's no great buildup to a climax, it's really just how a family and others deal with a tragedy, but it remains compelling throughout (albeit some slow parts necessitated by using the one shot technique). Highly recommended.

I would give it a solid B. It is funny and original enough to be interesting. The acting is pretty good and I really like the Jackie character.

The show also has its own warped morality which makes it funnier. I am going to rewatch and just focus on Ness. He has some great lines.

My only complaint is the basketball scenes are not great.

I watched the first few episodes of Suits LA this week. I mostly enjoyed the original series, and I like the lead actor, Stephen Amell, who starred in the underrated show, Heels. Other than the intro music and a know-it-all secretary, I'm not sure what the tie-in is to the original Suits. That by itself is not a big deal, but the show is terribly predictable, and acting is atrocious. One guy challenges the girl from Blacklist for primacy on the list of terrible actors in a network TV show. The show involves Hollywood entertainment lawyers and they do seem to have some interesting cameos by actors, like Brian Baumgartner, playing fictionalized versions of themselves.

My wife and I watched the first three episodes and were debating having our son watch it being that he’s a soon to be 12 year old with a phone (no social media). He’s a good kid who occasionally has minor slip ups but the show hits home on the subject of actions and consequences on a few fronts. Also, if you think you’re getting away with something, you’re not. The single shot filming is very cool and not something you see very often. I’d recommend the series as well.

Got a free 1 week trial of Paramount+ right before I dump Amazon Prime for a while. Gonna watch Season 2 of School Spirits, just watched one episode. Unfortunately I really don't remember much of the details from Season 1, so I'm sorta reorienting myself to what's going on.

The Studio on AppleTV with Seth Rogan has a lot of potential. The first episode was inconsistent with some really good moments. The second episode was excellent.

I do remember thinking it was a quality show. 3 episodes into Season 2 and I'm really enjoying it. Good acting performances, they keep the story moving forward. It's a bit convoluted but no sharks have been jumped so far. I like Peyton List, but I kinda think Kristian Ventura as her best friend steals the show.

Finished Reacher. The big fight scene was too long. Other than that, it was ok in those last two episodes. Definitely not as interesting as season 1. Not sure where they go with it, but I think they should avoid any more history of the special investigators and have season 4 completely disconnected from his past.

I was enjoying School Spirits, but I think there were more episodes than there needed to be, so there's some filler. And it took a turn into melodrama and various relationships that aren't adding anything. I only have 1 ep. left, but the penultimate ep. turned me off enough that I kind of have to force myself to finish.

I have enjoyed some new characters. There is the core group of spirits that were in the support meetings, but there are other spirits in the background. Two of them have come to the forefront this season. And we have gotten quite a bit of back story on the spirit who hijacked the main character's body. How many people died at this school? It's a slaughterhouse!

I enjoy both of them in this series, and in other stuff I've seen them in...but please can Peyton List and Jess Gabor move on from playing high school kids? List is about to turn 27 and Gabor is 28.

The climax at the end of the second episode was fantastic - I laughed out loud a couple times.

I haven't watched it yet, so it was probably a little reckless to take a look at your post. Thanks for being appropriately discreet.

I suspect the writers and show runners forcing in special investigator segments in order to have continuity of characters beyond Reacher. I totally get it, Neagley in particular is a terrific character, interesting and complex. But part of the charm of the book series is dropping reacher into these unique situations and watching him analyze and adapt.

Reacher is in essence, a force of nature, like a freaking tornado that touches down and devastates the bad guys around him. A taste here and there of Neagley is terrific, but over emphasizing them kicks away from the uniqueness of the series.

I've said this before, but I wish they just did the book series in sequence. It explains Reacher well using the salami method, one thin slice at a time.

Got about halfway thru "Running Point" last night. Entertaining. Good cast. I always enjoy Scott MacArthur and Max Greenfield. Brenda Song seems to be having a great time playing an over the top character. I appreciate the little dig at Phil Jackson: the Zen coach, except when he's going off on officials. I never bought into Phil being Zen, way too much of a manipulator with his comments via media.

Finished School Spirits. Last episode made me mad. I understand show runners are always going to want to continue a show. But they had a perfect opportunity to wrap it up, but instead had to go to great lengths to set up another season. I kinda doubt I'll be in for Season 3. The curse of Lost, having to continually get more convoluted to keep the thing going.

I had to watch it three times. I laughed so hard at several points (ex. when Rogan walked out of the bathroom) that I couldn't stop laughing for at least the next two minutes and missed what happened next.

The third episode with Ron Howard played a psychopathic version of himself is very good too.

It looks to me like they're doing the best reviewed/most enjoyed books first. Between the two movies and the three TV seasons, 5 of the top 8 books have been covered leaving Tripwire, two short stories that made one volume, and a prequel. So I'm guessing next up is Tripwire.

The One Piece. I was really struggling for something that wasn't as bleak as Taylor Sheridan or whatever. Found this live action adaptation of what is evidently a beloved anime show with over 1100 episodes. The show was based on a Japanese manga (graphic novel) series. It looked interesting, not entirely for kids, but fun with a bit of a fantasy element mixed with pirates. I was reminded of my first law school roommate, from China (engineering masters) who told me the Mandarin name for people from Japan means "short pirates". I'm three episodes in and it's good. Just what I was looking for really. Fun characters, led by Monkey D Luffy, a wannabe pirate and the rag tag crew he assembles. It's a clever storyline, colorful and enjoyable TV. It has very high reviews and a second season is coming.

I can't even remember how long it's been since I've watched Black Mirror. There's a new season out now on Netflix. Watched the first episode. Twisted and sad. Well acted, mainly featured Chris O'Dowd and Rashida Jones. I'll definitely check out some more.

Watched all but one episode. Pretty good stuff. The one you mentioned was great. “Eulogy”, with Paul Giamatti and the USS Callister episode also stood out for me. Great casts in all of these.

I finally decided to take on The Handmaid's Tale last weekend. I never had a burning desire to watch it, but things change with each day's news, so I figured it would be a timely and relevant watch. There's not a lot of great stuff streaming right now that I haven't watched, so this will help kill at least a couple weeks till something else comes around. It's more interesting and layered than I expected, although it's a tough watch with extremely little humor to break things up.
