Oregon makes more sense IMO based on roster make up and location, especially if she is eligible next year. There's a combo guard spot available to her and 4 very good starters all back. She'd be able to play alongside the best player in the country and compete for a title, then take on a larger role as a senior with a strong core of her/Sabally/Boley. Their offense also utilizes creating off the dribble, one of her best strengths.

She'd make her mark at UCONN but their offense is pass dominant rather than dribble drive dominant. And when UCONN does utilize dribble drive, itll more often be Williams taking the ball in rather than Westbrook. She'll get minutes at both places and will be pushed much harder than she was at Tennessee. I think everyone who questions her decision making will be in for a big surprise when she plays in a structured offense and puts up a very good A/TO ratio.

Both schools are great options and she will make a huge impact wherever she ends up.

All of this is certainly true: if eligible next year, Westbrook would bring some very good things to Oregon. But, as far as I know, Westbrook had no interest in Oregon during her recruitment several years ago. Of course, Oregon had only one (unexpected) visit to the Elite 8 at that point and it was likely she would have had to play behind Cazorla and Ionescu for the next two years. But she also may not have had a positive response to the coaching staff, etc., etc. (Or maybe even vice versa.). Perhaps all that has changed, but--so far--there hasn't been a lot of chatter. On the other hand, I believe that she did have serious interest in Oregon State. (OSU fans know much more about this than I.) So I think it's far more likely she ends up in Storrs (or Corvallis) than in Eugene.

Nope. Been looking though. I've my fingers crossed that this young lady brings her exceptional talents to Storrs.

Next week is the last of April, and the first of May. Hopefully we'll get news of a commitment or two. I expect to read of decisions made by most of the players in the transfer portal in the next 4 weeks. This past week was dry and uneventful except for the Coombs announcement. I have a feeling that good news is forthcoming for UConn fans.

I would think UT would be more inclined to object to the waiver request because of the series resumption. If Westbrook wants to maximize her chances of playing next season seems like she would select a team that did not play UT next year. Just speculation on my part because I really do not know how much the NCAA considers the losing team opinion on waivers but I believe that must have played a major role in Promise Taylor’s waiver requested being denied.
As of April 2018 if the first school opposes the waiver, the waiver WILL NOT be approved.
Prior to April 2018 input from the first school was a factor but not decisive.
" The guidelines also changed at that time to add an academic element and a requirement that the first school not oppose the waiver, in addition to the existing requirement that the student needed to transfer because of something outside that student’s control."

At least if Westbrook doesn’t commit to UConn it won’t be viewed as a “big” miss.

I came across this article on Westbrook's relationship with TN MBB HC Rick Barnes. Lady Vols: How Tennessee men's coach Rick Barnes is helping point guard Evina Westbrook Clearly, this is a young lady who really wants to be coached up, and obviously felt she wasn't getting what she needed from HW and her staff. Westbrook has to know there's no better coaching staff in WBB than Geno and his staff. Hoping more good news is right around the corner.

Wow. Imho, quite an indictment of Warlick who apparently seemed only too happy to farm out her responsibilities.

Particularly since Westbrook just spent this past weekend with Megan....

Just a thought...................unofficial visits like that can be much more substantive (and much less restrictive) to the visitor than an official visit. Official visits (which are restricted to high school seniors) are controlled, and limited (you can only be on campus for a certain number of hours, and your arrival and departure times are also mandated). Players transferring visit potential new schools on their own dime.

Unofficial visits are NOT restrictive in any way. You can arrive when you want, go where you want, visit with whomever you want, stay as long as you want and leave when YOU'RE ready. ;)

Do you think Megan introduced her to the rest of the team, so that she could get a feel for the camaraderie amongst the players, and get a feel as to how they would receive/welcome her (gauge their enthusiasm) should she choose to come to UConn?

Obviously Megan is in a much happier place NOW, (and a much better host) than she was this time last year, and hopefully that dynamic was perceived by Evina. If she visited Megan on campus, there has got to be some interest on her part about coming to Storrs. Hopefully she saw/heard enough about the program that she wants to be a part of it. I doubt if she visited Megan because she just happened to be in the area.

No doubt she met with Geno and the rest of the staff while there for a close encounter of the first kind with the man she would be playing for. I could be wrong, but I'm reading between the lines here, and I like what I'm seeing.

Here's my take on Evina. If Megan was the #1 recruit in the country, Evina was #1A. In two years at TN, she saw her stock slipping in a program stuck in the mud. While the new coach offered some hope for improvement, Evina has a real sense of urgency about getting on track back to where she believes she should be as a basketball player, so she is not willing to hang around Knoxville for another season in the hope that KJH can bring out the best in her as well as the LV's.

She probably talked to a bunch of people about what she needed to do to achieve her goals, and her friend at UConn was one of those people. We all know that Geno was all over Megan and her fellow freshman last year. As it turned out, 3 of 4 are now gone, but Megan thrived this year after a season of Geno's tough love. I believe that is exactly what Evina is searching for. She is competitive, wants to win and wants to develop her game under the very best coaching possible. I very much believe that, as good as Megan will be at UConn, Evina has a greater upside under the right coaching. Fingers crossed that we will hear more good news very soon.

My bet is Evina’s decision will occur after her semester ends at Tenn and she is home-away from any backlash that would inevitably occur if she were on campus AND especially if her choice is UConn!

I now want to curse most of and especially @oldude for swaying me into thinking getting Evina (and especially the waiver) would be a good thing for UConn. My gut still wants Kitija Laksa but both would be super. Should the waiver not come through Laksa would be a needed and logical fit.

Go Huskies! :)

after beating out Fernandez on Nika and Ania, taking Laksa would lead to violence.

Naw, Jose knows “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” and given he has 14 players losing Kitija to Geno would be ok for him.

A poster on VN who appears to know Evina posted she will be leaving TN tomorrow, plans to spend some time with a friend and then fly home to OR where she will announce her decision.

If UConn is her choice, it might be worthwhile for Geno to fly out to OR to meet with Evina’s mom and close the deal with Mom.

This is an amazing story. It completely changes my sense of Westbrook, and makes me think that she might well crave the tutelage that UConn provides, and thrive with the yin yang embrace of Geno and Kathy Auriemna.

Helicopter mom and a kid that threw her coaching staff under the bus. I don't think Auriemma is that desperate.

Now if she was 6'6" it might be a different story. ;)
The right coach can deal with anything thrown his/her way.
