Week 6: Other Games

During winter break schedule a game apiece in Bridgeport and Mohegan Sun to cover the two other fan bases of CT. Fan bases there are ignorantly ignored by the UCONN brass.

The XL Center is too big a venue to think all games will sell out, while Gampel is too remote when students are off-campus.

So you want to have 5 home courts? Gampel, Htfd, MSG, Mohegans and Bridgeport?

I think the suggestion is 1 a year in these places, maybe rotating on a yearly basis. Perhaps one of our early season cupcakes. I’d like to see UConn play a Fairfield or a Quinnipiac down in Bridgeport.

No reason to play at Mohegan Sun regularly. It’s less than 45 minutes from Gampel! And I say that as someone who is at Mohegan Sun regularly (far more than I am on campus).

I think playing one game a year in Bridgeport is great though.

I always wondered why Mohegan doesn't host a New England jamboree with all New England teams - UConn BC, Providence UMass, URI Vermont, Yale and BU - never understood why the Jones twins don't schedule games vs each other every year? Get Dunkin Donuts to sponsor it. How hard is this?

Sure, next Gampel game drive down to Redding and take the one and a half hour drive to Gampel.

Driven a heck of a lot further to games during the week while I was still working. BC, Bu, Providence, St John’s, Syracuse, Fordham, UMass, RI. Syracuse the only tough one since we didn’t get back till after 3:39 AM.

Using remote for such a small state, where the longest you could possibly have to drive between any two places within said state is like 2.5 hours or 140 miles is kind of odd. It isn't THAT remote for anyone in the state.

Two observations.

1- Neither team played any defense. Both teams had a plethora of wide open shots and lanes to the basket. Darn little contact too.

2 - Akok is completely wasted on offense, they never passed to him. They basically ignored him. On D he just kind of floats around without a purpose. He plays a lot of minutes but is rarely involved in the game. It's sad to watch.

I’d be shocked if Akok doesn’t get a lot of applause. No one can question what he went through and put in here. Can’t imagine anyone thinks negatively of him.

Forever a hero; he broke Boeheim's back by choosing UConn, and Syracuse recruiting hasn't recovered.

I'm reading this at 8:53, and seeing that there was no scoring by either side in the final minute of the game.

I will not be rooting for akok. I won’t be booing either. But I can’t root for someone who left on bad terms with coach Hurley, who took akok in and genuinely cared for him. They don’t follow each other on instagram anymore. There was a lot of shade. Andrea Hurley doesn’t even follow him anymore!

Marquette was underrated and Creighton overrated, even with Kalkbrenner.

Either one of these teams can have a night and beat whoever but this performance tonight would lead to an asswhooping against the good guys. And I say that as someone who is realistic about the rigors of conference play.

Wouldn't be surprised if Creighton finishes 5th. I think Nova will finish ahead of them
