Wake Forest wins over Charlotte. The Demon Deacons improve to 4-0.. for the first time ever under Coach Hoover
Vandy wins 75-55.Considering that Vandy lost decisively to both Little Rock and MTSU, this will be no cakewalk. Tennessee Tech is picked to finish 2nd in the Ohio Valley behind Belmont. They returned all 5 starters from last year (although one of them is out with a knee injury). They have very balanced scoring, with no real superstars, and decent size for a mid-major, with a 6'3" starting center and another starter who is 6'1".
Constant pressure defense and some nice offense. Shot 50% from field. Nice post game interview by Shea emphasizing defense, energy and communication. Some nice looking freshman players. This game was a huge improvement over the previous two. The offense was downright anemic in the loss to Little Rock. Was great to see them warm up the nets just a little bit. Vandy got almost half its points off turnovers.Vandy wins 75-55.Constant pressure defense and some nice offense. Shot 50% from field. I think Marquette has to be the favorite here, but Colorado definitely has a great shot to continue a great start to the season for some of the more disappointing teams in the Pac last season. Utah, Colorado, and Cal have all started with some signs of life. One of the most intriguing games to me is Marquette (3-0) vs. Colorado (2-0). Marquette is one of the favorites for 2nd place in the Big East, Colorado is a middle of the pack Pac 12 team looking to claw their way higher. Important outcome for both teams.
Something I'm becoming obsessed w/ this year is attendance, specifically the "official" number vs. the actual number of people there. I've been streaming Utah's games. The John M. Huntsman Center has been empty for all 3 games. They are claiming 1732, 1631 and 1645 for the 3 games. I seriously doubt there have even been 1600 people for all 3 games combined. What is gained by these completely bogus attendance figures? Anyone watching can see there's absolutely nobody there.
Cal vs. USF (at Chase Center, the Warriors' home) was similar. Officially 2057, I doubt there was even 1/4 that many people there.
I see Colorado as the favorite to win this, with all their starters back and especially playing at home. Traveling into altitude is not easy, and Marquette is not the same after losing Selena Lott and Camryn Taylor, and they've been kinda struggling to find their new identity. They added some decent transfers such as Karissa McLaughlin and Kennedi Myles, but the gelling process has a long way to go.I think Marquette has to be the favorite here, but Colorado definitely has a great shot to continue a great start to the season for some of the more disappointing teams in the Pac last season. Yeah, I kinda figured that. I'm surprised there are that many people buying tickets for Utah games, and even more surprised so many are clearly choosing to skip the games thus far. They have the excuse of an away football game that was on TV at the same time for one game, but not the other 2.It's tricky, because I think the official numbers are tickets sold for a game which might not be the same as butts in the seat that we can see on screen.
Colorado might be one of the best teams in the Pac 12 if they could keep their better players from going elsewhere. One of the most intriguing games to me is Marquette (3-0) vs. Colorado (2-0). They returned all their starters from last year, including their best player Hollingshed for a fifth year.Colorado might be one of the best teams in the Pac 12 if they could keep their better players from going elsewhere.
Colorado looked really good last night (Clorado Live Stream) and stymied every Marquette run. I still think the Buffs would have a great season if they place 5th this year behind, Stanford, Arizona, Oregon and UCLA.I see Colorado as the favorite to win this, with all their starters back and especially playing at home. I'd replace UCLA with Oregon State in your listing there.Colorado looked really good last night (Clorado Live Stream) and stymied every Marquette run. I still think the Buffs would have a great season if they place 5th this year behind, Stanford, Arizona, Oregon and UCLA.
I was actually talking about their high school stars such as Belibi and Onynwere. The spelling may be wrong but I think you know who I mean. There have been others recently. They returned all their starters from last year, including their best player Hollingshed for a fifth year.
I think the schools in many states echo this same sentiment. Keeping talent at home is a real trick sometimes.I was actually talking about their high school stars such as Belibi and Onynwere. The spelling may be wrong but I think you know who I mean. There have been others recently.
Tammi Reiss will be first in line when UVa fires Thompson after this season. RI has some players. Redshirt senior Emmanuelle Tahane had 16 points and 19 rebounds.Rhode Island just beat Princeton to snap their 25 game winning streak. Tammi Reiss has that program on the rise.
Coach Reiss is on my wish list for CVS replacement. Love her energy and passion on the sideline.Tammi Reiss will be first in line when UVa fires Thompson after this season. RI has some players. Redshirt senior Emmanuelle Tahane had 16 points and 19 rebounds.
Princeton dominated the 1st quarter 11-2 but their usually stifling defense failed them after that. It didn't help that their best player got hurt at end of 3Q and didn't seem 100% even when she returned. I wonder when was the last time a Berube-coached team gave up 59 in 3 quarters.
Ironically, Princeton's win streak dates from their overtime loss at Iowa, which was exactly two years ago today.
With so many teams you root for, you have a lot of opportunities to be happy...or disappointed.Tough day for the Panthers and Camels. Davidson throttled HPU 76-54... VPI ripped Campbell 84-39.

At least in the nonconference, it's heavy on the disappointment. With so many teams you root for, you have a lot of opportunities to be happy...or disappointed.
She is quite a player. Watched her in the OSU game (up close). Cal Baptist is a good team, they are going to do some damage this season. Fun team to watch.Cal Baptist beat UC Irvine 93-88 in OT.
My favorite player Ane Olaeta led the way with 21 points, 17 assists and 8 rebounds. The assist mark is a school record, for men or woman. Olaeta now has 31 assists in 3 games. And I believe leads D1 in assists per game at 10.3 apg.
