We can not close the deal with recruits

Not sure what the blind eye is towards what both Mom's felt. KO needs to figute out why the last 2 parents didnt buy what he was selling. That trump everything else in the end.

Just for the record, my consistent derision on this topic has always been firmly focused on "fans" that don't go to games badmouthing the better fans who do.

No doubt there's issues but we are talking parents and their kids here. My parents went to every game me and my brother played until we were 30. When my brother played in the minors in the NY Penn League in the summer my dad took Fridays off and we went wherever the weekend series was despite it being anywhere from 4-5 hours away. They as parents want to be there - in Sids case they don't have to drive perfect fit at St Johns. In this case RU is 3 hours best from Baltimore, UConn is either a flight or 6-7 hours. It could be that simple right?

I'm not blind there's a HUGE issue and they both more than likely aren't that but I am sure of those 2 one of them are for that reason alone, at least one! It happens in close families and that's a good thing right?

Yes it could be. But it also could be what was quoted about how his Mom felt about Rutgers head coach. Did she say that about ours?

I am not sure no one put that in print. Maybe she also liked KO but wouldn't divulge for selfish reasons, albeit good intentions. We don't know, no one knows but many elect to assume they have it figured out.

I get it, major problems for the program we all have so much passion for but KO's still here, not leaving tomorrow because he lost the 90th recruit and for me it's easier to dig out of it with what you have rather than rip it apart so I'm sticking to the hope of turning it around as is.

Im not bashing KO. Just staying that something is not working. Is it him, them or me? Him and them have been replaced. Might be time to look in the mirror before it's to late.

I know you're not 32 all good. And I do believe he has looked into the mirror already but we're finding because he didn't last year for whatever reason, he's trailing the pack and needs to make a huge comeback in so many ways!

Has there ever been a surer guarantee of regret than what we will have when KO is HC on another team and he is recruiting against us?

I never said replace KO. I believe he can turn it around. But I know when I'm not delivering the results my company wants there is only one place to look and that's me. I have to change what I'm doing. Whatever it is constant chatter about being outworked means something. If it's real I would need to deal with it. If it's perception I would hBe to deal with it.

If this is true, it's not surprising KO wanted to replace Miller with Chillious. Miller seemed to focus heavily on the easiest-to-bring-in-local guys.

A lot of people here wanted coaching changes a while ago and Miller was the biggest target. I am sure out of all the non-Pollyanna's there were some who posted the same and now would love him back LOL. But now they will choose to target Chill and Kill and if they're replaced it will be on them if we lose one or 10. The thing is Glen was pretty successful with the "easy" targets and now we aren't. I don't believe it's on the new staff and instead on the perception of KO's ills, but they will still hold this poor guys accountable when we all can see they are working their respective arses off. I think it will all work out and I like this staff.

I would love to go back and search through all of the threads calling for Miller's head and see who's done a complete 180 on him since he was let go.

This is the puzzle. A lot of what KO has gone through is normal for a first-time head coach. Strategic program management, finding the right complementary group of assistants, developing an identity on the court (zone vs man, run vs half-court, etc), learning how to assess high school players for fit to program (including character fit to your style of coaching), learning how to develop the positions you didn't play, learning ins and outs of recruiting, developing a coherent plan so that all coaches are on the same page and pulling together -- it's normal to fail early at these things.

If you're going to be a good coach, after about 5 years you've figured these out. We forgot that Hall of Fame coaches often had losing records in their first five years.

KO appears to be on his way to solving some of these things. They seem to be committed to developing a running team with a man-defense mentality. He seems to have found a staff he's comfortable with. The recruiting plan seems to make a lot more sense, in terms of who they are targeting. We'll have to see if the results on the court and the player development get better.

I do think KO got a little complacent with the national championship and diverted by the divorce, and took longer than he should have to address these issues and figure them out. Let's hope he has time to remedy everything and get results.

He has to show it on the court. As for Fishy's "scrapple," at least it's top 200 scrapple. There's no reason, if KO is going to be a great coach, he can't win with top 200 talent. There are about 800 top 200 players in NCAA D1, spread over 300 schools. The average school has 3 of them. If KO can get 7 and coach them up, UConn can be a top-60 NCAA team and make the NCAA tourney more often than not. Get a few of them to the NBA, and top 100 players will come. There's no reason he can't build a reputation the same way Cooley and other competing coaches have.

Hurr durr we're UConn and because we're UConn and have some magic sparkly dust around the program, we're attractive to top coaching candidates no matter how barren our roster is, no matter what conference we're in, no matter how many bad seasons we have in a row, no matter if we won't be able to afford to pay anyone what we're paying our current coach hurr durr!

I am looking forward to you excoriating Ollie's replacement for failing to meet your expectations. And the guy after him. And the guy after him. You'll be whining with jealousy about "why can't we recruit like Kentucky and get Drake to come to our midnight madness?!?" for years to come.

This makes some sense also. Both do though because if you do look at the video, there's very little impressive about the kid. But he was a winner, on some very good teams.

The recruits from the championship team of 2014 was Mostly made up of UConn's 4 th or 5 th option in the recruiting world.
I believe we had Napier reclassified after striking out on Selby, Knight...

who are we kidding, none of these guys will make a roster at Kentucky or Duke or any of the top programs. Maybe Napier.
What this team had was heart not talent and was well coached.
Many forgot Kevin Ollie was giving a 6 months contract for the 2012-2013 season. This was the biggest blunder as it hurt us even more as no kid will commit to a program without knowing who the coach will be. This killed us with recruiting in 2013 and 2014. Without talent you don't win games and that will not attract top recruits Especially after we were put in the All American conference to play Tulsa, tulane, USF, UCF...
Kevin Ollie did a great job with the roster he had the first 2 years. I don't think anyone could have done better with that roster. Additionally, Kevin Ollie's divorce and his mom health didn't help. Many of us know may know dealing with such issues can be detrimental to ones health.
