Villanova and St. John's games postponed...

if the big east has any brains they’ll move things around so we can play a game next week before Seton Hall on 2/6

This begs the question, will there be enough time left in the schedule to make up these games? Looking at the schedule there are not many windows of opportunity unless postseason gets pushed back. Now we have 3 games to make up, Xavier, Villanova, Saint Johns.
The conference tournament will likely be cancelled and that period will be reserved for make-up games. Auto big goes to regular season winner.

We are not playing a game for 7-10 days, in case it ends up that someone on the team has it.

so genuine question...whats the odds this is a false positive? You're gonna tell me that some old (no offense) ref had covid symptoms and was able to run up and down the court for 40 minutes? No chance

I DONT MEAN THIS IN A BAD WAY. hope official recovers well

Where have you seen that? Seems like if the team tests negative daily they should be able to play next Thursday at the latest

Like i needed another reason to hate Pat Driscoll...

(note - no idea if it's him - i just hate Pat Driscoll)

I guess I'd rather play them not down 3 of our most athletic players, but that's just me.

idk shrug GIF
Yes. But it’s kind of silly pretending this is a season.

Well I’m pretty sure the state is running on the thought that the virus takes like sometimes up to 7-10 days to develop. I assume they don’t want to put a potential carrier on the court Thursday or sat. Bummer that the double header on Fox is postponed.

So we do everything right and the Big East officials cause a pause. This league has to get its act together.
The refs should be wearing masks . Now I understand not playing tomorrow, but they could have waited before postponing Sunday's game. One one hand I wanted to see the team in action vs Nova and SJU, but I can wait. Need Bouk for Nova.
No point pretending you might play Sunday. It takes five days from your exposure to the virus before a test can become accurate. You do the math.

I really find the childishness of many of these posts bizarre. The school and the state and the conference are trying to protect the long term health of their student athletes. Our desire to watch basketball on television should not and does not materially factor in to their analysis.

The Nova game I understand, but why can't we test the team over the next few days and if everyone tests negative, still play the SJU game on Sunday? Seems silly to cancel that game already.

Testing. Plus sometimes a positive test comes days after exposure.
Protocol is to test 5-7 days following possible exposure, and to quarantine until you have the results, because that's usually how long it takes for an infection to reveal itself with a positive test.

It’s funny because I noticed an official consciously turn away from people to blow into his whistle before an inbound play last night and I couldn’t help but think “wow these dudes have to be releasing a ton of particles into the air”
that is actually normal reffing protocol (pre-covid as well) so you don't blow out the eardrum of the player standing next to you

Unfortunately the team will need to take precautions for the next week. If even one of our guys was exposed, its imperative to stop it from spreading around the whole team. Do you complainers want to pause a week or month? Hopefully they can rest up, heal, and work on making contested shots and layups in small groups.

I got my symptoms 2 days after contracting and the PCR tests are pretty accurate as my wife got a positive result 3 days after contracting it and 1 day after symptoms. She developed symptoms in 2 days. I think this is a bit of an over reaction. I understand the Villanova game but I think they should wait on the St. John's game until after testing on Saturday.

There is nothing good about this. But are there any potential replacements?
What do you mean by replacements? If we aren't playing these games we aren't playing any others during that time.

Or do you mean rescheduled dates for these games? In that case, I think it's a bit early, seeing as this just happened.

Thanks I hadn't looked at the schedule. No one is going to schedule it with us until we know our status 4 days from now.

Remember that yesterday's Butler game had a decent possibility of being cancelled last week ? Due to a positive test on Butler team - turned false positive.

If we didn't play last night we would be staring down a very real possibility of losing our 3rd in a row tomorrow vs Nova. That could have been damaging. This is a season of ifs .

Now if we can't reschedule anyone before 2/6 Seton Hall, what about adding a 3rd game vs Butler - in a season of unbalanced schedules ? UConn has shown that could defeat them easily without Bouk..... Ok, just a thought.

I am appalled at the willingness of people on this board to express strong opinions in the absence of knowledge. To all the people saying something along the lines of "CT DPH sucks if Butler isn't on pause too!": Find out first if that's the case, and then complain. Also, if that were the case, that would just mean that Butler is stupid and UConn is doing the right thing, so there's that.

And then there are the armchair epidemiologists on this board saying, "Just test everyone and play the games as scheduled!" The majority of this board knows why it doesn't work like that, and most of them didn't need medical degrees to understand it.

TL;DR
Please have some intellectual curiosity and learn some facts before you flood the board with your silly kneejerk reactions.

Why don't we just schedule Georgetown before Seton Hall since we need to make up a game with them anyways?

Looks like I’m in the minority that think we need all the games we can play - with or without Bouk.

After getting games cancelled all season, the assumption that we’re going to somehow play all these makeup games without further incident just doesn’t seem reasonable. Come tourney time, experience playing and closing out actual games will be huge.

If we don’t play games, where’s it gonna come from?
