well, Notre Dame is pretty obviously not as talented as they’ve been in the past few years
from where I sit, they would clearly be the second best team in the big east by a pretty wide margin and was happy to see a somewhat competitive first half

The game is on television not radio. Viewers can see who is on the floor and if they are fans, they know who is who. The only problem I have is when the refs blow their whistle for something away from the ball and the announcers don't mention the call. In this scenario I look at the Live Stats Play by Play and see what was called.

Saw Louisville playing South Carolina, and there were a couple of kids playing well that I didn't remember. I checked the boxscore, and neither played very much against us. They'll be much different if we face them again.
 
UConn is improving individually and as a team. Everybody is beginning to look for their shot and play with confidence. KK has been scoring and now is a threat from the outside. Ash is taking more shots as is Kayleigh. They are becoming threats and thats what UConn needs because opponents have left them open way too much and theyre shooting it and making more wide-open shots. This had been casually unexpected and now is becoming reality. All we need are threats to keep the defense honest and that helps Sarah and Azzi.

Im looking for UConn to make more pull up jumpers and when driving off the dribble to stop and pop not just run up and shot it. Paige was great at taking a split second as she went up for a shot. We need that to become contagious with everybody else. When I thought about it UConn really didnt shoot well from long range and still won by over 35. ND isnt what they were and ND has HH who is an AA and we held her to 16 pts with no pts in 2 qtrs. That tells me alot about our execution. We play as a team and teams win championships and BB is a team game.

uconnfan 68, when you say "much different" as in it will be more difficult for Louisville, I agree.

According to the ESPN boxscores, the only person Louisville played against SC that didn't play against UConn was sophomore Anaya Hardy who started, played 24 minutes and had 6 points and 5 rebounds (along with four fouls). Her points and rebounds are pretty close to her season averages.

UConn, on the other hand, didn't have Blanca available for that first game. Furthermore, our bench against the Cardinals (Jana, Ice, Allie and K9) scored 16 points. Collectively, these four in the rotation now (I'm excluding Ice) average 28.5 points per game off the bench.

My regular caution that I dont think all-game stats are meaningful for UConn (and many other teams). The number of blowouts skews the rotations and playing times, from what we will see in big games. I doubt we will see 28 points by the bench against top teams.

Leaving out Louisville, against the next 5 top teams UConn has faced,
Blanca is averaging 10 ppg
Jana/AZ/K9 are averaging a combined 7 ppg

Vowelguy, you present some valid points, and I completely agree with everything in your first paragraph.

That said, I am not sure how that addresses uconnfan88's contention that I was responding to.

Is it your position that if UConn and Louisville were to meet again, UConn would present a bench component that would be somewhat similarly effective (at least scoring wise) to what the Cardinals faced in that first game? That is the inference I draw from your supporting figures. Suffice to say, if that is your position, I would disagree.

Or, are you just speaking in general terms about the bench's productivity against "top teams" as well as the pragmatism of not using "all-game stats", and are simply using my response to uconnfan88 as an opportunity to reiterate? To me, that would be an interesting - albeit separate - discussion.

FWIW, I also try to analyze UConn's performance (individual stats, team stats, MOV, score by quarters, etc) through different filters (home vs away vs neutral court; Big East vs P4 vs Top 25 opponents; Nov/Dec vs Jan/Feb vs Mar time periods, to name a few). The more folks can parse data into like groups the more relevant insight they can glean to inform discussions.

I saw Louisville beat Tennessee at Barclay's and that was not that long after we played them and they were much improved already, with an emphasis on defense.

Very true and that is why I don't think the Vols can handle our defense to begin with. Louisville full court pressed them and forced their bigs, who are very big, to handle the ball and that was curtains for them. Tennessee's PG is a freshman and I don't see her handling the two headed monster on defense at that position of KK and K9.

Boneyarders were concerned about how UConn would guard Hildago. You can be sure ND fans were a lot more concerned about how ND would guard Strong, Fudd, and Blanca. Also, UConn has not played the top four teams in the rankings but, that is not by choice,
