UConn is going Bowling > Wasabi Fenway Bowl v. Army (Saturday 12/27/25 @2:15 on ESPN)

Wanted a P4. But, I’m worried about the team showing up with all the distractions. Triple option will eat us alive.
Damn. It’s too bad we didn’t play a triple option team four weeks ago and hold them to one of their lower offensive outputs of the season. Because then it would really be hard to understand all this pessimism.

This is a major, major downgrade from last year's great experience. Will we find out what our options were?

Open questions to all:

At the time that RE was told that his resignation that he said would be effective after the season ended would intead be effective immediately, if you were told that we would go to three bowl games over the next four seasons, would you have seen that as anything other than a complete success? Would you have looked at any bowl bid as a disappointment?

Please be honest.

There's a link on the Fenway Bowl website to purchase tickets as UConn fans (sets up a coupon code "UCONN")

The date and location work for me... so selfishly I like the assignment (although would've been happy with anything that weekend in most locations). I wish it was a P4 matchup though and of the G5 teams would've really preferred it not be another option attack. UConn handled it with Air Force, but we saw the Rice debacle. 10 wins will give UConn something even though the opponent is a G5 school; but a loss is potentially damaging.

It's a prominent G5 bowl because it usually means playing an ACC team. This year, we're taking the place of the ACC team so it's not really that impressive. Issue is that we have already played in it just last year and the opponent is not big enough to convince our top players to not opt out.

Look at what you are saying here. You are saying our presence is the reason it is not a prominent bowl!

The prominence of a bowl does not change year to year. As you said, we are replacing the ACC. We are 9-3 and beat the ACC champs!
They are saying we are the headliner here, not the dog! Army is the AAC rep.

The ACC gets a 2 million dollar payout in this bowl, double what the AAC gets or virtually every other AAC/ g5 bowl. I do want to hear someone at UConn to confirm this, but they never talk about payouts so I doubt we will.

Interesting. Every nickel counts. If AD Dave and our Indy status gets us a better cut than last year based on projected gate (and as wildcard/ACC rep), more power to us. We will likely never know.

Could have been a worse bowl but I'm not happy with the opponent or being in a repeat location. If we were going to play a team from The American, I would've preferred a team from the top half, preferably the top 5. ECU was similarly ranked to us in S&P+ and the Colley Matrix and I saw some outlets projecting that matchup. I think that would've been a much more interesting game. USF and Memphis would've been interesting matchups as well.

I'm thinking the logic here is we sold a lot of tickets to Fenway last year so they expect us to sell a lot again. Combine that with Mora and potentially some of our players leaving before the game and I have a feeling they weren't comfortable slotting us with a better opponent. Competitive games tend to get better ratings.

I don't want to come across as complaining though. It's still a decent bowl and gives us a chance to get to 10 wins. Silver linings.

Edit: didn't realize Army finished 6th in The American, thought they were 8th. Technically top half of the league but my point still stands, there are multiple other teams from The AC I would rather play

Fan bus again this year? That worked out well last year.
If you hear anything about that can you make a thread about it?

I took Amtrak last year but prices are bad right now and the 2:30 start makes it a longer day.

I was at the game. Plenty of UConn fans definitely showed up. I suspect that's why they invited us back again this year.
There’s a picture of the bleachers that looked sparsely populated but the rest of Fenway looked pretty full

I'm saying playing a bowl game against a P4 team is more prominent than playing a bowl game against a G5 team. Not that hard to understand

Of course not.

But being 9-3 and facing a 6-6 Army is disappointing in the context of this season.

I mean, would you rather play The Army or a P4 team.

Please be honest.

We're filling the ACC spot... it's only right given we are the uncrowned ACC champs. (Although the ACC didn't get locked out Miami got the at large)
I just went to ESPN and saw that, I did expect them to get completely left out. Wow

If someone were smart, outside of the Wasabi folks, they would get on creating some merch and fast. There was nothing to buy at all last year. I believe this is year 4 of the Fenway Bowl so they should know how to run a bowl by now. At least create some type of events and sell sheet. There are Benjamins to be made and fans to satisfy

I can’t make the game, but I want to support UConn. Should I buy 4 nose bleed seats and not use them / give them away? Or is it better to not buy any in case there are large #s of fans that want to go to the game? Thanks.
