Tough duty but someone has to do it. I started watching the replay. In warm ups and the anthem line up the Hungary young women looked like they were headed to the gallows! Their coaches looked happy enough, but they didn't have to play the USA. Then I saw the USA Team during the anthem and they looked worse!

Feel bad for Canada, lots of young prospects but can’t seem to string it all together.
Lucky alot of the young girls are 02 born and will be able to play in 2021.

Coach Walz has some positive things to say about the overall team and Bueckers and Howard, in particular. Many posters from earlier in this thread might be interested in his take on (over) dribbling, which I've cut and pasted. (Exec. Summary: "Find the open player early by passing more, dribbling less.") “I was really pleased with our effort today,” said Jeff Walz, USA U19 and University of Louisville head coach. “Offensively we were much better. We stopped dribbling the ball so much, which has been a problem for us all through training camp. We’ve got players who are the best on their high school teams, the best on their college teams and they have to dribble on those teams in order for something good to happen. That’s against what we’re trying to get them to do. We want fewer dribbles, more passing and find the open player early. In the first two games we did a very poor job of that. I thought today was much better, and you could see it on the offensive end.

“Rhyne and Paige have been very consistent with the way they’ve started games, and that’s encouraging,” added Walz. “What we’ve got to get them do now is to come out in the third quarter and be just as consistent, play like they have in the first half and assert themselves. But, I’m very pleased with the way those two have been playing.”

Per USAB regarding this U19 team -- Athletes eligible for this team must be 19 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2000) and U.S. citizens.

So fast forward two years, the rule will be -- Athletes eligible for this team must be 19 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2002) and U.S. citizens. Bueckers, Van Lith, Brink, and Clark were all born prior to Jan. 1, 2002 (Brink by just a day ).

That was where my confusions were stemming from.

Although Anaya Peoples was 17 at the time the U17 World Cup was played, since she was 2000 born, she was not eligible for the U17 Tournament, and had to play U18. Kennedy Brown and Brea Beal were also born in 2000, so they had to tryout for U18 too.

Charli Collier and Taylor Mikesell are both 19, but since they were born in 1999, they were not eligible to tryout for this U19 team.

Azzi Fudd won't be eligible for the U16 World Cup next year, so she will play for U17 (not sure if she would have done that even if she was eligible though).

I've been saying this same thing about Van Lith specifically for two years now. Way too much dribble in her game and much of it is not very purposeful.

I find the USA games hard to watch as they are so static on offense and transition defense is still painful. And I find watching out of bounds plays with five players getting ready to receive a pass for ten seconds before someone realizes there is not a sixth player on the team to pass the ball. I don't think I have seen such a disorganized USA team at any level and I suspect Jeff may be trying to do too much coaching - he certainly never stops shouting instructions.

A lot of recruits know what to say but if you watched her high school and AAU games you see it every game. She may take a few shots in the first period but mostly she tries to find the other 4 players and it's fun to watch her distribute, like a mother hen feeding her brood.

And her strength and speed seems to have increased over the last year, with still another year to work before she's in Storrs. Luckily she has a powerful HS team and a great coach. Too many HS years are wasted by great players on teams that have trouble running a layup line.

I said when she a recruit that I would follow her where ever she ended up. I'm sure glad I don't have to root for the Irish or the Vols.

One other thing I noticed about Paige is that when she was on the bench in the 4Q and the backups are playing and they call a time out to get to the bench, Paige is always the first (and most energetic) off the bench to greet and high five the subs.
