Walz is no dummy. He took Paige out about 3 minutes into the second half and she never returned.

Paige was fantastic. Completely dominant and in control from the very beginning. Smart play after smart play. What post would not want to play with her. :confused:

Aaliyah Edwards not starting for Canada. I think she started the other games?
 
Feel bad for Canada, lots of young prospects but can’t seem to string it all together.
Lucky alot of the young girls are 02 born and will be able to play in 2021.

She started, but picked up a quick foul, was taken out early, then picked up another foul.

Edwards had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in 19 minutes.

Hey Carl, we could use an 'Assist' tracker since that is perhaps the best part of her game which is saying something.
 
USA will most likely play Germany in the round of 16. Providing they win, they'll play the winner of the Canada vs Argentina game. Canada should win that game.

Tough duty but someone has to do it. I started watching the replay. In warm ups and the anthem line up the Hungary young women looked like they were headed to the gallows! Their coaches looked happy enough, but they didn't have to play the USA. Then I saw the USA Team during the anthem and they looked worse!

All of the USA’s 2020 players are born in 2001. Does this mean none of them will be eligible for the next U18 and U19 cycle? It’ll be interesting to see what 2020/21 players step up and make the team in the absence of Bueckers, Brink, Clark, and Van Lith.

If they can put together a team with Merissah Russell, Aaliyah Edwards, Shyanne Day-Wilson, and Latasha Lattimore, they could definitely challenge a USA team without the 4 I mentioned.

If Bueckers, Brink, Clark, and Van Lith are all 17 for this tournament, why would they not be eligible for next year's U18 Americas tournament or the U19 world cup in 2021?
 
Here's the press release that USA Basketball put out following the U.S.A.-Hungary game.
Coach Walz has some positive things to say about the overall team and Bueckers and Howard, in particular. Many posters from earlier in this thread might be interested in his take on (over) dribbling, which I've cut and pasted. (Exec. Summary: "Find the open player early by passing more, dribbling less.") Whole article is linked underneath that c&p.

“I was really pleased with our effort today,” said Jeff Walz, USA U19 and University of Louisville head coach. “Offensively we were much better. We stopped dribbling the ball so much, which has been a problem for us all through training camp. We’ve got players who are the best on their high school teams, the best on their college teams and they have to dribble on those teams in order for something good to happen. That’s against what we’re trying to get them to do. We want fewer dribbles, more passing and find the open player early. In the first two games we did a very poor job of that. I thought today was much better, and you could see it on the offensive end.

“Rhyne and Paige have been very consistent with the way they’ve started games, and that’s encouraging,” added Walz. “What we’ve got to get them do now is to come out in the third quarter and be just as consistent, play like they have in the first half and assert themselves. But, I’m very pleased with the way those two have been playing.”

My bad, I thought it was about birth year.

Per USAB regarding this U19 team -- Athletes eligible for this team must be 19 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2000) and U.S. citizens.

So fast forward two years, the rule will be -- Athletes eligible for this team must be 19 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2002) and U.S. citizens. Bueckers, Van Lith, Brink, and Clark were all born prior to Jan. 1, 2002 (Brink by just a day :D).

That was where my confusions were stemming from.

Although Anaya Peoples was 17 at the time the U17 World Cup was played, since she was 2000 born, she was not eligible for the U17 Tournament, and had to play U18. Kennedy Brown and Brea Beal were also born in 2000, so they had to tryout for U18 too.

Charli Collier and Taylor Mikesell are both 19, but since they were born in 1999, they were not eligible to tryout for this U19 team.

Azzi Fudd won't be eligible for the U16 World Cup next year, so she will play for U17 (not sure if she would have done that even if she was eligible though).

Never would have imagined Germany would have been the team we play in the round of 16. Really wish Nyara Sabally was playing to have made it a little more competitive. They still have a pretty good roster. Puzzling that they lost to Colombia.

I've been saying this same thing about Van Lith specifically for two years now. Way too much dribble in her game and much of it is not very purposeful.

Next year will be U17-U18;U16-U19 in two years. Azzi can choose either one, OR USA basketball will choose for her.

She is 2002 born. Not sure she is eligible for U17.

Jeff's quotes are fine but Paige is solid gold.
