U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Wow.....11 is cutting it a bit close as far as I'm concerned although I know MM likes players that can play multiple positions..13 seems like a good safe number to me....come to think of it, am I mistaken or is UConn at only 10? That's asking for trouble as far as I am concerned, especially with a few of the players coming off surgery in the summer...your season can go down hill very quickly with only 7-8 available players no matter how good they are.......

Geno likes the 10/11 number and plays 8. The upper number of REAL, no walk on, promoted walk on player, is commonly in the numbers above---it has come close to biting Geno on the glutus maximus (sp) but he has survived. Some fan have complained loudly--doesn't it strike you as odd fans complaining what a coach of Geno's proven record does?? I'd like you to remember how many Geno used in his run on the NCAA this year--in REALLY BIG games--cleanup games don't count. I am not the data digger you are, my comments are based on a very fading memory, but I doubt it's too far off. However, fans have screamed on "bad recruiting" years (only 1 or 2 AA's) with the same considerations you have posted--

Injuries Would/could disrupt the ability to win in the early season--if KLS,Collier, Chong can't play. If you add Kayla, Crystal Geno is depleted. If he had the full 15 Scholarships filled for this year (not counting 2 who can't play) what real difference would that make?? Who would Geno have --that he could have had to make these injuries less impactful??

I completely understand that having fewer bench players means more minutes for everybody else but what happens if God forbid you loose one player for the season with an ACL, and Saniya Chong continues to have IT band problems and can only play limited minutes.......that leaves you with 8.........so then Butler gets 4 fouls in a game and you are basically down to 7.................I know this is all doom and gloom thinking but it's not crazy talk.............I just wish they would have brought in at least one more player even if it was a fifth year senior.............

Per Raul:

Kentucky beats SC and Tenn to keep one talented recruit in state:

Green to UK

Nice commit to get them back on track. Not sure what Mitchell said but she was dead set on joining either Tennessee or SC prior to it.

SC had been looking at Green for a few years now.

A veritable full-court press! ;):D Interesting that Muffet only has 11 players on the team this year, which is somewhat due to Taya Reimer's transfer and having
a smaller (2) incoming class. Makes you worried about depth if something happens, but she seems be keeping roster size tight and -- hopefully --right these days.
Depth is overrated, especially if you have the right kind of players. Ask that team from the North East. I am trying to remember the name. This is a tough one, lol.

\

What you described has happened --down to 7 during a game--. I'm pretty sure Geno would bring in another player--if he thought it necessary OR a UConn type kid wanted Uconn--

If anyone knows the good and bad of Recruiting it is YOU CHARLIE!!!

Your fears have been voiced over the last --hmmm 20 years---pundits and "knowledgable" fans have screamed in the Courant and other Ct outlets --"WHY isn't GENO RECRUITING more players"???? This isn't new.
Uconn has had top level *UP YEARS and then a DOWN YEAR--on the down, fans second guess GENO's choices always. Then he recruits a DT, MAYA, RENE, STEWIE and he is PROCLAIMED the MASTER, another JOHN WOODEN--and ask when will his statue be placed outside of the new Practice Facility????

I don't have a pipeline to Geno's brain--or the Medical people who take care of the team--however I think I read where all those on the walking wounded list shall be ready in November.

Geno knows the drill--he's been there done that--Geno's skin is pretty thin (it is getting thicker) and he sees or someone reads theses --WHY Doesn't Geno fill open positions--I want the money he makes but my ego couldn't handle the WHAT IF's.

Have been perusing the U18 recruiting lists and this name -- Grace Berger of Louisviille -- kept popping up in articles. Initially an off-guard, but now considered a combo guard.
Good ratings across the board(21- Hoopgurlz, 39 - Prospects Nation) and a positive review from Coach Bill from a year or two back that I'm including here (also has a video).

2018 KY 6'0" Guard GRACE BERGER - creating National Buzz ( Video ) - WiseEYEsports

The Kentucky location caught my eye in that our incoming frosh -- Erin Boley -- is from Kentucky and the Irish had lots of luck with Natalie Novosel at the guard slot. "Nasty" is still playing in the Australian Pro League.

I see UConn was not initially listed on Coach Bill's report as having interest (or vice versa), but that may have changed.

She has skills. Breaks a girls ankle at 1:36 in this video.

According to one of the folks on the U Texas fan board, Chasity Patterson has signed some preliminary paperwork to play with Texas during her visit this past weekend............#4 player in the 2017 class, #1 point guard..........no mention of this on her social media so only speculation at this point

I doubt that very much. I don't believe anything can be negotiated or signed prior to a NLI being signed and that cannot happen until Nov. 9th, 2016.

Looks like someone may have committed to ND.

I think it might be Katlyn Gilbert. All predictions wrong or your money back.

ND had a home visit with Charli Collier today.

Supposedly she signed some financial aid agreement of some kind but yes the LOI can't be signed till Nov 9th

I'll make you a deal.........you may have Ms. Gilbert........................ we'll take Christyn Williams

I'm already assuming UConn will get Williams, to be honest.

I have thought that for quite sometime but she has recently shown some interest in looking at other programs
...................perhaps that's why Geno just made an Arkansas house call................same for Megan Walker, after all he's going to see her this weekend unless he's going to stay on the road..............

Charli has been busy..............was at Texas, then had in-home with UCLA and then another with ND..........perhaps Coach Geno is headed Texas way..............Hook Em Huskies!!!!

Grace Berger attends a local girls catholic high school here. A friend of mine from college, this is her cousins kid. i hope to make it to a couple of her games this year.
I know that she is high on Louisville's list ( I know, I know who is not on their list) and recently made a home visit.
Of course, KY has already been in for a home visit as well.

I like her crossovers quite a bit and ability to drive to the basket. And a skill not seen much...a mid-range, pull-up jumper.
