U17 and U18 recruiting target observations

Thanks, Charlie for the initial post.

Orangutan: any idea when Patterson is set to visit? Pretty certain that Ms. Walker and Ms. Westbrook are both coming Sept. 23 -25 (Duke Football weekend) but ND board has ideas on when.

My feelings on UT are pretty much the same: the situation there is not the one Parker played at, that's for sure. However, if Daneille thinks it is the right place for her, well, all the best. We'll see...

MTSURaider has Patterson at ND this weekend. I haven't seen that stated anywhere else but at the same time I have no reason to doubt that. Derrick Mullen @Hoopsking1968 on twitter knows Patterson (I think he and her dad are friends?) and disseminates info on her recruitment. We should hear from him and/or Danielle herself if indeed she visits this weekend.

I got it from the ND board.

We are officially going in a circle then! I thought maybe I had seen a date there, too, though I can't find it now.

Thanks to you both. I hadn't seen it on the ND Board either, but that doesn't mean my eyes are not working.
If this weekend, perhaps we'll hear soon enough.....

It's been almost a year since I'd heard anything about LaDazhia and South Carolina (in home visit last year). I totally thought she'd moved on from SC. Props to her for keeping her recruitment under tight wraps..

FSU and OSU likely lead here no doubt. Her AAU program pushes in state schools and her coach loves Ohio State (FGB AAU camps there every year).

That's interesting input regarding the AAU program pushing FSU and OSU.
If she chooses to attend FSU, she'd be joining Chatrice White, the 6'3" post who transferred from Illinois (who also visited Louisville and ND).

Like you, I'd put her on the backburner since no news was forthcoming, either from her camp, the usual sources or ND (which keeps news as tight as a snare drum). In fact, that reminds me that there's been no news about Jade Williams and ND either. She's been associated with other schools (Texas Tech, UT) but not ND, which was on her Hoopgurlz profile. Stay tuned!

South Carolina as well. Really what we know about SC recruiting we get from social media research. A lot of us have become pretty good at it. We have an idea of the AAU/high school programs that SC typically recruits hard, look at their high D1 prospects and go from there.. it works.

According to the Texas Tech fan site Jade Williams is visiting Texas Tech, TAMU, Tennessee, and, possibly, UCLA. We do have several players visiting Tennessee that also list ND among their schools including Evina Westbrook, Maya Dodson, LaDazhia Williams, and Danielle Patterson.

Thanks for that information....A lot of those young ladies/players that list ND and Tenn. have their lists down pretty right and tight (Dodson, Patterson are at/under 4, right?). Should be an interesting September.

Isn't 15 the maximum headcount for D1 WCBB rosters?
If so, I found this interesting:
"The Cardinals will host two of their top remaining targets in the '17 class. Lindsey Duvall and California post Loretta Kakala are both already committed in the class with two more scholarships expected to be filled." But if you go to their roster- Louisville Athletics - 2016-17 Women's Basketball Roster
- there are two red-shirt seniors (Briahanna Jackson and Cortnee Walton) and one fifth-year player (Taylor Johnson) on a 15-person roster. Those are the three "out of here next year" players that I can see and they're expecting four. Hmm... Maybe the writer is off by one? Or is there something I'm missing?

On the other hand, I've also read good things about Grace Berger who the Louisville Coaching staff is -- naturally -- taking a look-see. They should, given both her proficiency and the fact she lives there ;):D.
(I wouldn't mind the Irish taking a trip down to KY......)

One of the freshman, Jessica Laemmle, is a walk-on. I'm not sure if there is a an actual maximum roster size or not or if there's just a scholarship limit.

That's specifically why I said the other TWO Hayes sisters. I think it's a little too early to be including the 12 year old in this. The other two though are old to be recruited off their own merits. If Dawn sees fit that the other two are D1 caliber then I'm not too upset by this. Must mean Dawn really likes what she sees in Hayes.

I think Hayes is great but I've always wanted Carter from this class. I will be more than happy with Hayes though. Unfortunately, she has googily eyes for Ole Miss and Tennessee.

You have to see the "package deal" from the view point of the older sister making the announcement.
We are FAMILY--and we stay together (with the knowledge they'll do that as long as they can) Also it gave the 12 year old Family to hold onto the next few years--until they must part. For some kids the FAMILY is the greatest team they will ever be on.

Does she have ---Goo --goo-- goolie eyes?? Seems there was a song with that line--The girl with the goo goo gooily eyes???

^^^ Correct, Laemmle is a walk on. She played at a local high school and always wanted to play at U of L. She had Div II scholarship offers but wanted to walk on at U of L, a childhood dream to play at her hometown school. An article in our local paper suggested she is realistic in that she may not see the court, except for mop up minutes. However, it was her preference to do just that rather than leave Louisville for a scholly at a Div. II school.
If funding college is not an issue for her family, good for them for being able to make that choice.

Didn't Muffet have 18 or 20 on her team 7 or 8 years ago---seemed like they were all there on the floor at the same time.

Orangutan, Jenny0 -- Thanks to you both for the explanation. Regarding the "15," a few sources I've googled say that is the number of scholarships allowed on a D1 Women's Basketball team. So, with Ms. Laemmle not counting against scholarship limits, the Cardinals will have 4 open next season if they choose to use the maximum total. All power to her walk-on efforts!

A veritable full-court press! ;):D Interesting that Muffet only has 11 players on the team this year, which is somewhat due to Taya Reimer's transfer and having
a smaller (2) incoming class. Makes you worried about depth if something happens, but she seems be keeping roster size tight and -- hopefully --right these days.

Wow...............11 is cutting it a bit close as far as I'm concerned although I know MM likes players that can play multiple positions............13 seems like a good safe number to me.........come to think of it, am I mistaken or is UConn at only 10? That's asking for trouble as far as I am concerned, especially with a few of the players coming off surgery in the summer..................your season can go down hill very quickly with only 7-8 available players no matter how good they are.................

Except for the 2001 group Geno kept his group smaller than most would have liked. It is probably because Christine, who had to keep track of the minutes played by each player was not happy with that task. Sveta, wanted 49 minutes in every 20 minute half--others too. The problem of having a team full of top 10 players who want to play.
I'm sure he's been up a bit but not a full load (15) of scholarships---but.
A few years he down sized and then lost players to injuries or transfer or both and felt the verbal wrath of fans(?).....
Geno likes the 10/11 number--but probably not on ND..
