Transfer Portal

The good thing about losing both Cole and Diggins is that we can recruit guys who will be sure that they can come here and get a ton of minutes. With plenty of other top level teams that may not be a given.
That may actually be a big deal. PT means everything to these kids.

There was a thread the other day about how having two bona fide lead guards in your backcourt is a recipe for success in the Tourney and I listed the backcourts for all of our great teams showing that they all had 2 guys with real playmaking skills.
That was a great thread, wasn't it? ;)

If I am Posh, I’m so disgusted that St Johns reached out that I’d immediately enter the portal and come to Storrs
Posh could get it rolling here.

As much as Nova turns my stomach, they always have 5 offensive weapons on the floor. We certainly can testify to that based on the semis outcome. We dared their least potential threats to beat us and they did.

Let's begin to recruit with an eye towards talent that Hurley can and must develop into multi-dimensional and positional threats on the floor. I mean this is UCONN, let's take this blip in time and go get some dawgs.

Thursday Morning Portal Reflection

A new day, a new opinion.

We still MUST acquire a top PG transfer option, however, for that other PG spot, I am open to filling that other spot with a '22 decommit or a younger transfer with 2-3 years of eligibility remaining.

Just spitballin' here, but Marist's Jao Ituka is one of those young transfers (four years of eligibility remaining) that is intriguing: strong 6'1 196 frame, 15.3 ppg, good shooting ratio (54.4 2p%, 41 3p% (but only 1.4 attempts/game), 76.8 ft% at 5.1 attempts/game (87th in the nation), All-MAAC 2nd team...

Here's an article about Jordan Hawkins and Jao Ituka's relationship:

@husky429, what's your read on Desmond Claude? According to Jerry Meyer, his profile is enticing and bringing in a 6'5 PG into the mix with Jackson and Floyd next year ,and then Castle the year after, provides the team with big distributors, a type of versatility that is intriguing for sure.

Claude was never offered by UConn before, so I don't know if this would have legs anyways if he happens to decommit. Would Claude feel sour considering that UConn never offered him prior to signing with Xavier? Personally, he has all the right to feel that way, if that's how he feels.

Also, what's the deal with Avery Brown? Is he worth an offer?

If Hurley isn't telling guys that 40 minutes at PG are available, he's crazy.
He should be telling the PGs that, and telling the wings that Jackson may play some at the point.

Maybe Antonio Reeves is their #1 guy. At least I hope he is
Reeves is a tough guy to get, however. Has heard from the likes of Duke, Ohio State, Alabama, Wisconsin, LSU, Florida State, Texas Tech, Memphis, Xavier, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Those are the significant ones, but oh man, if we could land him I'm all for it.

Reeves and Newton would be a great haul. Would see a starting lineup of Newton, Reeves, Hawkins, Jackson, Sanogo. With Floyd, Karaban, Akok/Johnson, Clingan off the bench. I like that
This is a fun tool at Bart Torvik’s website.

RosterCast for Connecticut - Customizable College Basketball Tempo Free Stats - T-Rank.

Oddly enough, we don’t project any better with Newton and Reeves. Keep in mind that it’s too early for next season’s projections, especially since nobody’s roster is set. I obviously believe those two would improve our roster. The other weird thing is that there are players like Akok who project to have a perhaps unrealistically high offensive rating. I see where it comes from, since he had a great 3-point shooting percentage and a low turnover rate. I just don’t think it’s safe to assume he’d maintain those rates with more playing time and/or a higher usage rate. Still, it’s neat to play around with the site.

The other thing I need to keep reminding myself is that there will inevitably be more transfers in the portal. The players we eventually land might not even be in the portal yet. It’s almost foolish to get too attached to any player, yet here I am checking this thread multiple times a day.

AJax is not a starting point guard on a competitive tournament team. He can’t shoot or drive to the hoop and score. All of a sudden that’s going to change in a summer? Have ya seem his floater.. LMAFO
I can’t believe this is a consideration. This is UConn I would like to think that this fan base is familiar with what a real point guard is with our history.
Floater looked pretty darn good towards the end of the season. If you don't think he will approve on his dribble drive scoring and his shooting then you don't know AJax

Most teams would kill for a trio of Sanogo, AJax and Hawkins to build around. We will be fine. All three of them do unique things, and Hawkins is legit a confidence boost a a little handle away from being the focal point of the offense.

This whole exercise is a rorschach test of how posters deal with uncertainty generally. Would not want to work with some of you.

This is what i am hearing.. all energy is on a true pg with an outside shot.. pass 1st and control. Looking everywhere... portal, Europe, Jr college
Should we be expecting anymore outward portal movement?

Here's the list for D1 players, I made it for them.

High assist rate players in the portal shooting at least 33% from 3 with at least 2 years of eligibility left.
