Also doesn’t really benefit UConn in the recruiting process if St Johns is seen as a force in the area.

Yep, we disagree on this. In addition to the tournament units I believe a strong UConn, Johnnies, Nova, Georgetown benefits UConn, the Big East, and college basketball. I even want a strong Syracuse even though they are no longer in the Big East and they are/were our rivals.

I'm sure some people will think that's a weird take. I promise I won't get bent out of shape about it.

I can agree on the Big East but a strong Cuse? More than happy where they are.

Oh I get it. But there's room for hate. I hated Pitino's Louisville teams and I hate these St. Johns teams. I despise watching that foul everyone every second of the game defense. Ugly basketball. I hope all the other Big East teams do well when not playing UConn. It was especially nice to see DePaul improve to "not embarrassing". Storied program. Excited to see Willard at Nova. Sadly, a solid PC program is just so outgunned in the NIL era.

I'm literally the first person in this thread who said l don't care who anyone roots for and people should root for who they want. You then responded "that's fine, just don't WHINE about UConn's money situation in the Big East."
With a response like that, it seems like you were triggered and do care a little and that led to the back and forth. If you can't see that is somewhat of an adversarial response then I don't know what to tell you.
To answer your question, I don't care about your stance on gambling. I don't think it's weird you don't want it. I'm sure you have your reasons and I respect that. People don't have to like what I like. Too much of that in the world.

Another interesting one worth a look. Again, may be more of a bench/development piece (and probably not what he's looking for). But better than squabbling over random sheet.

Barrington Hargress (6'0", 195) UC-Riverside.

Ranked #7 in "Top PGs in the Portal" from 247 (https://247sports.com/longformartic...ailable-dedan-thomas-leads-247970890/#2627442).

Metrics are pretty good. Seems to have tight handle, very few games with more than 3 TO's, finishes through contact well. Nice stats vs. Oregon, BYU, Colo St..

Providence's NIL is actually legit. They're getting players but not sold on Kim. Sweet 16 seems like it will always be the ceiling with that program going forward.
 
Does anyone know what the scholarship grid looks like right now for next year and how many portal guys we can fit where we stand at the moment?

In all seriousness, not being a Connecticut resident, I have no animosity towards PC.

So.....I'm not fully versed in the animosity between the schools/states.


Growing up in the 80's and 90's, it seemed PC always snagged some nice NYC talent, but with the drop off in NYC high school basketball that pipeline has dried up.

With the SEC focusing more on basketball, teams with profiles like PC will have a much tougher time overall.

If Hopkins didn’t go to St. John’s he would have gone somewhere else. Providence was losing him anyway, better he strengthened the Big East vs helping the SEC or Big 10 in my opinion. Would you rather a situation like Xavier losing a very good player to Texas in the SEC, I’d rather see those type players stay in the Big East.
 
Strange one I was not expecting. I've complained about Lowe all year for playing hero ball (along with Leggett), but he was going to be "the man" going into his junior year. He comes from a hoops family and his dad is friends with Capel, which got him to Pitt in the first place. Kid has talent, but is prone to make some iffy decisions on going into the trees with his somewhat slight build. 5.5 assists v 3 TOs.

Pitt now down to one guard. I imagine Lowe goes back home to Texas. I don't think UConn looks at him, but with a kid like this, I always wonder if two years with Hurley vs two years with Capel would produce a bonafide star.

Yup. Here's a high school scouting report on him as a football prospect.

A gifted athlete that not only starts at both quarterback and safety for his high school, but also doubles as a legitimate high-level basketball recruit. Viewed by most Power 5 football staffs as a full-time defender given his ability to make plays in coverage and stops in the open field. Uses thicker frame to his advantage as he oftentimes arrives on scene with the intentions of leveling someone. Does a nice job of gaining depth with his read steps and then reacting to what’s going on in front of him. Posted an elite short shuttle time the spring before his senior season. Those fast-twitch muscle fibers help him close gaps in a hurry, especially when he’s asked to come down hill. Strong instincts and physical demeanor suggest that he could thrive as an in-the-box safety at the college of his choice and potentially even as a money linebacker if he continues to add mass. One of the more unique prospects in the class of 2022 given his aspirations to keep playing both football and basketball at the next level. Likely to emerge as a starter in the secondary after a few years on campus, but could be deployed early on in situational packages.

I don't really care, but the idea that players in a league losing money should be getting paid MORE is a bit nuts. And the media hype that the women's game is more popular than ever doesn't make it a reality

1) Don't be a rube. Every league claims it's "losing money!" because that's what billionaires do. The reality is most sports teams are run dead even or at a slight loss while the owners collect local tax breaks on property, get the state to pay for facility upgrades, etc. All of which boosts the asset value.

As for the WNBA, virtually every teams is owned by the same owner/ownership group that owns the arena it plays in. But the gameday receipts don't go to the team, they go to the ownership group via the arena. So there's, what, 16 WNBA teams? x20(ish) home games each? Waaaaaay more than $40m just in gameday receipts. Probably triple.

Owners have been doing this for more than 100 years.

2) The "media hype" is based on ratings, popularity on search and social media.

Here's the past 20 years of "WNBA" as a search trend. You can see it was steadily growing:

Blaise Threatt (cool name!) 6'3", 210. Father played in the NBA for 10+ yrs. Three yrs at Colorado Mesa, 2 at Weber St. Would be a Grad Txfr?

Nice Ast:TO ratio. Finishes well at the rim with both hands. 3pt % is serviceable. Seems reasonably strong & quick. Played well vs. better BSky comp, decent game vs. Oregon.
