I don’t like UConn teams without enough ballhandling and passing. Seen that movie before and it doesn’t end well. I don’t want to ever see it again.

There isn’t a Castle or Newton type of point guard out there, so we are probably going to have to address this problem with someone smaller. You can coach bad habits out of kids and get their turnovers down, but you can’t coach someone up to the point they can get you 12 assists in an ncaa game unless they have that innate skill. If we don’t get Cadeau or Nait George, we better find some sort of scrappy mid major kid who can dribble and pass to come off the bench when our offense of 5 non passers is getting ball pressured all over the floor, running offense 25 feet from the basket, forcing up bad looks.
I have no interest in him. He is small and can't shoot. If we get a small guy he needs to be able to hit the 3 as well as penetrate and play decent D.

Kanon Catchings power forward from BYU available. Former Purdue recruit- sophomore.

Diarra was our MVP this year. Small and can't shoot, but he was completely indispensable, because without him we couldn't deal with ball pressure or get into offense. He's gone. One of the guys we thought could back him up is gone. The other might stay, but didn't work the first time we tried.

If we had good passers on the wing, fine - we could get by without a true point. But we don't have that. We recruited shooters thinking we were set at the point for the next two years. Now we have nobody.

Size is nice, but it doesn't matter how sophisticated your offense is if you can't even get into your offense. Seton Hall - the worst team in our league by a mile - punked our "positionless" lineup by just switching everything and hounding whoever had the ball until we had to throw a hobbled Hassan out there to try to be not completely inept on offense.

I’m definitely with you, I want more ballhandling. I’m just not sold on Cadeau, I’m not a big fan of his playing style for what UConn needs. I’m sure Danny could coach him up and get him playing at a decent level, I’d just look elsewhere.
That's fair. I don't necessarily like him as the answer. More intrigued by George, who is a little bigger and a better shooter, but maybe not super quick, and I haven't seen us linked to him yet. I would almost look at Cadeau to be the backup (or someone similar would be the backup) to try to give us a different look if our offense was bogged down. But I don't know if he's entering the portal to be a backup somewhere.

We need a big guard but a smaller guard who can break people down and make plays is also needed. Someone like Cadeau.

Not sure where this whole "it's a new era" thing comes from. Small point guards are ripping it up like they always did.

Smaller point guard like Mark Sears? He’s a great player almost all the time until he ran into a team where he couldn’t get a shot off. He could not create his own shot going to rim and finished 2-12, 6 points. Now don’t get me wrong he’s very good but I don’t think Hurley will go smaller point guard again, maybe as a backup.

I’d reach out to Gillespie today incase we don’t lock up Demary on Tuesday. 6’1 but great defender like Diarra, great shooter/scorer, would be a home run.

Don’t understand the Cadeau thing unless he’ll come off the bench this year. Non shooting point that’s small and doesn’t play D. Family is also reminiscent of Tasheed according to UNC fans. Would much rather take a shot on Nait George.

Cool. Mark Sears was also first team all-American this season and second team all-American last season and he dropped 24 on UConn in the final 4 last season with great shooting. We probably cut down the nets with him this season.

I guess the question is do we see Stewart more as a 3 or a 4? If he's clearly a 3, which he was this year, then that incoming 4 needs to be a clear-cut starter.
This is exactly why someone that could start at either Forward spot would be ideal

Duke is very similar to us last year with size at every position, and Sears had 24 against us on 9-14 shooting with Castle on him a lot of the time, and was hitting both logo threes and crazy shots in the paint to keep them in it.

Sears had a rough year mentally - had two games with 0. He was benched a couple times, slumped a lot.

Mercenary U lands another
Curious what that team is gonna look like next year.... That is some great pieces between hopkins and Sanon entering and potentially zubi and wilcher coming back.... Unfortunately for them there is a bit of overlap with those guys... They need a PG badly to round them out

Does anyone have On3? Supposedly connected us to Elliott Cadeau but I can’t access
Off the board to Michigan. I'm curious how these kids commit within a few days. When they were in high school they took months or even years to decide on a school and now when they transfer it's done within days.

Nate Ament continues to hold out, and just today said he has no timeline. It's April!!

I'd have to think the agents are working the lines fast and furious trying to land the best deal/situation. There is a timeline, so you don't want to wait so long that you lose opportunities in the window.

Now that he’s off the board I feel more comfortable saying that I really didn’t like the idea of him coming here lol
