The guys national composite is like pushing 286. I mean our programs got some serious issues, but are we that desperate that we are now chasing 300 rank talent.

Edit. Looks like he is ranked higher than what 247 listed. I stand corrected.

Well when you can't get any top 100 guys you scrape the bottom of the recruiting barrel and get what you can get. We still have 3 scholarships to give away, do you have any eligibility left?

He is a lefty who has some hops, but not sure about his shooting stroke. I would prefer Waters in all honesty and he would be a backup plan at best

We all would prefer Waters but he isn't coming here.

Even if he was ranked 286, I'm fine with that as long as he's a legit specialist as a shooter or a rebounder. UNC, for example, has two sub-200 recruits this year. One can only shoot (Platek), one can only rebound (Manley). Neither will be anything other than role players, but those roles are important and translateable and predictable.

If this kid is 6-foot-7 and can shoot the ball, then sign him up. I don't care where he's ranked or who else is recruiting him.

.-.
Sign him up. I think while we're in the AAC, you're going to see us going after these under the radar guys that we take a chance on more and more. Live with it.

I would offer Trace Young. The kid is 6'8 with a good handle and vision on the fast break not to mention excellent athleticism. This is a UCONN player despite what the recruiting rankings have him as.

He reminds me of DJ Wilson from Michigan. This kid might be a upgrade from Sid Wilson if we are truly recruiting him which at this point we should be. We need another wing player and this kid is definitely serviceable and doesn't hurt you on the court. Defensively with his height, length, and hops he is an asset as well.

DJ Wilson was the first thought I had as well

This kid reminds me of type who goes to a lower level school, ends up making the tournament, and then torching people. Then everyone wonders why no big school went after him.. Why not take him, he looks solid and I honestly cannot tell that much of a difference between him and all these "top 100" recruits at his position based off what I've seen. That is largely do to highlight videos I'm sure, but if he has good basketball IQ, try and get him.

Top 100 lists mean nothing. Only so many players make it in college from that list. Look at last years team. We had a highly ranked class and none of the players to me looked worthy of being top 100 except the little we saw from Gilbert. I would like to see Ollie go off the beaten path and try to find some hidddn talent. I would definitely sign this kid and give him a shot.

Watch Young's AAU team play Quinerly, Luther Muhammed, and Nasty Naz Reid's team. Go to minute 4:20 and watch that rejection of Luther by Trace. Trace is an upgrade over Sid Wilson offensively and defensively. We need Chillious to seal the deal here.

Watch Young again in this video of his AAU team between 0.50-1:10 and between minutes 2 and minute 3;20.

I can't believe I'm still reading about Uconn basketball recruiting. I promised I'd stop after Randall Jackson and Wayne Turner did me wrong, which I know we did well without them. I say do the kid a favor and offer him so he can drag this out to the bitter end and he gets to go to a different school that he really wants to go to because they offered after we offered. I'm a bitter old man. I'm going to go to more games next year and lose my lungs in support of the true blue boys on the court. Go Huskies

If this kid is playing 17U right now he's young for his class. He could definitely reclass back to '18 if he doesn't get the offers he wants.

I mean look at this, it would seem he is a kid they were high on but only if not getting Wilson unless I am missing something. Late to the party and people are saying "we need to seal the deal...." like we're in the drivers seat? He's been recruited by other programs much harder/longer I am sure and isn't dropping his loyalties for a new partner or at least I would doubt. I mean I hope they can get in the game but not expecting much here.

How can you tell that from this video. He looked like he barely was involved in the game. I hope this was an off game. LOL!

One thing to note about Young is that he comes from Ohio County, Kentucky. The county only has 23k people and is 586 sq/miles. How many scouts have gone to seen him play? How much of his low ranking is a function of playing in a remote rural county? I don't know but I have to imagine it plays a factor.

The first video is about Quinerly and I wanted to highlight Trace's defensive potential that he shows at 4:20 against Luther a top 60 player in his class.

Click on the second link Team Thad 17U to see the other things I posted. He is an upgrade over Sid Wilson.

Really and you can see this how? Oh yeah this is the guy who had AB in the lottery for the NBA so there's no doubt this kids better than Sid Wilson

If the coaching staff feels like he's someone that can fit well with what they are trying to do, then I'm all for it. It always amazes me that people can watch 30 seconds of film and are able to simply give a "no". Chances are that if they watched the exact same 30 seconds of film but the kid was ranked #88, they would be like, "We need to get this done or else Ollie can't close!"

This board is so over the top...

The 5'8" Tyler Harris looked more impressive in those videos. Trace looks like he has a good stroke but he doesn't seem to involved in the offense.

I would love to have this kid commit to UConn. He has lots of athleticism and looks to have a high basketball IQ as well. He's got plenty of schools looking at him though so may not be so easy to even get a visit.

He seemed reluctant to shoot, passed up open shots. It's hard to tell how accurate a shooter he is from a highlight tape. But, he's from Hartford, so we gotta like him.

I'm guessing there isn't a lot of competition in his part of Kentucky so he's probably raw, and somebody else said he was young for his class. He's athletic, he has potential. Might be a good late get.

A lot of people on this board and in general place WAY too much emphasis and 247/ESPN/Rivals rankings. Every year plenty of guys listed 200+ go on to have great college careers.

Recent article from 247 on Trace: Class of 2017 forward Trace Young still weighing his options

Young is ranked 285th in the nation and 55th at the Small Forward position in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Alabama, Auburn, FGCU, Kansas State, Louisville, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Xavier and West Virginia showed interest before the summer. There is no rush to make a decision, and it's paid off as Illinois State, Indiana State, Memphis, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech and UConn have shown varying amounts of interest in the springy forward.

Long arms, massive hands, big strides and the ability to jump out of the gym make the lefty a great prospect. His basketball I.Q. and potential to alter the game on defense at either forward spot take him to the next level. A combination of size and speed will make a Swiss Army knife at the next level.

"Man, fan base," Young said after being asked what's most important in his potential schools. "I want a great fan base. Somewhere with that real college feel. I want that real college basketball experience."

He played at Huntington Prep for a while so he's played against top competition in the past

I mean we could certainly use another player. If Waters isn't coming here, we should grab somebody. Then we should be okay for this year and have some scholarships to play with for next year.
We should grab this kid even if Waters is coming. They don't play the same position.

How do we say we should just grab a kid? We haven't swooped in a grabbed a kid in a long time. We need to do some real work. Put in the time with '18, '19 class. Obviously we are not in sync with what is truely driving these kids decisions.
