The Official 2025 New York Mets thread

We definitely don't have a true #1 for a playoff series, and that's super concerning.

Love McLean, and maybe he'll never come down to Earth, but a guy who has 4 career starts being our most trusted arm is pretty wild.

But I'll have to agree I think if a series started today we'd be rolling with Peterson, McLean and I'm going to say in game 3 I'd be more apt to start Manaea and bring in Holmes as a long reliever. Try to get 6 or 7 innings between the 2.

For a 4th start...yikes. Maybe Senga with a quick hook in favor of Tong? I don't like bringing in Senga out of the pen, he seems like a guy that has to everything just so in his pre game routines and what not - I don't think he'd do well coming out of the pen. The thing is we have seen Tong for 1 game so far. What McLean is doing is pretty historic, it's naive to believe Sproat and Tong will have similar results. For all we know Tong will be inconsistent over these next 4 starts and will be every bit of a wild card as anyone else.

Heck we may very well be trusting Megill to be a game 4 starter for us in the playoffs!

Great discussion.

1) For what we're paying Senga and Manaea, the thought of having to piggyback them to get through 6 innings is ridiculous.
2) If Peterson can get on track, I fully trust him twice in a 7 game series, maybe even in relief in another game.
3) We're gonna see what we have with Tong and McLean when they pitch in places like Philly. It sure would be a great story to have those two lead a charge to a ring.

If Megill starts a playoff game, I'm going to need to drink heavily.

Hey now, Megill was the starter in one of the team's only no-hitters!

All jokes aside, it IS ridiculous that somehow we are in this situation where we are really putting all our hope in 3 rookies who have a combined 5 major league starts under their belt.

This is squarely on Senga and Manaea, if those two were giving you quality starts on a regular basis everything changes. The bull pen is less stressed, their is less pressure on Peterson and Holmes to be on their A games every time out, the rookies have less on their shoulders...but they are killing us right now. Manaea has to figure out how to extend his outings and not have that blow up inning. I have more hope for him at the moment, he seems to be fine for 2 or 3 innings and then just blow up. Senga dances in and out of trouble every single inning, and lately can't get out of trouble.

Baseball is a funny game though. 3 weeks ago the Mets were falling apart in large part due to having a horrific offense and Soto, Lindor, Alonso and company were struggling mightily. Now the offense is on fire, Soto is being talked about in the MVP discussion and Vientos has gone from being the biggest disappointment to one of the hottest hitters on the team over the last 2-3 weeks. Hopefully it clicks soon for Senga/Manaea and they can rattle off 2 or 3 straight quality starts and build confidence.

Mendy holds his cards pretty tight to the vest, but the last week or so, his pressers feel like he's frustrated (and maybe a little fed up) with Senga and Manaea. Interesting if he is and wonder if it's real frustration, attempts to shake them up a bit or both.

The reality is that you probably only need 3 quality SPs for the playoffs anyway, at least for the WC and NLDS. I still have complete faith in Peterson and Holmes, and I think Manaea figures it out. And with McLean I think that's enough for the first 2 rounds. Beyond that you need to hope Tong or Sproat are ready or Senga finds the 1st half talent he had

RIP to Davey Johnson. In my opinion, the best Mets skipper ever.
Should've won multiple WS or at least NL pennants. Cashen ruined the chemistry when he got rid of Knight and Mitchell.

Davey also didn't get enough credit for being the first nerd manager.

I've already re-watched "Once Upon a Time In Queens" twice this year. Feels like I should do it again for Davey.

18 games left, 4 games up in the WC, staggering to the finish line. I can see us flubbing this up like ‘07.
Who had the under in number of games winning, losing after 8, at zero? WTF? That is unfrigginheardof.
No game winning dinger, or XBH, like that stiff Marte could have done today? Instead - a game ending DP. Poor Sproat. Good game wasted.
Still, despite all this we may get to go on the road and have to win a best of 3.

This team is gonna be the death of me. And watching Jake pitch against us tonight ain't gonna be fun.

Gonna be an interesting next 4 days. 2nd through 7th Wild Card teams are all facing each other this week

what a brutal stretch. Saturdays game was especially bad with the pen blowing it after a great start from Sproat. Lindor not catching that liner to start the 9th. Baty picked off 2nd base. Alvarez with catcher interference. Just bad baseball. The little things adding up.

But let’s all cross our fingers that yesterday is where things changed. Finally a clutch hit in extra innings. Pete with the walk off to snap out of a funk. Finally some feel good. McLean is without a doubt the teams ace. Now maybe he goes the way of Matz or Harvey or Thor and doesn’t have staying power - but for now at least, he’s clearly our Ace.

Saw where Holmes and Manaea will piggy back a start. I don’t hate that. Both have had several outings where they are good through 3 or 4 but then implode. Maybe this will be a formula that works. It’s not ideal and quite frankly embarrassing that Manaea particularly is in this situation after we re-signed him to anchor the staff - but here we are and we have to try something.

Giants and Reds lost too.

Buckle up!

Piggyback game tomorrow. We’re that team now. Why even pretend our starter will go more than 3-4 innings. Then hand the ball off to 2025 flop Manaea. Oh my.
Might as well get in and then upset the 3 seed on the road in a 2 of 3. Why not..

Last night was the best I’ve felt about this team in a while. Let’s keep it rolling.

Was great to see some fight last night. Get down early with a bad inning in the field but battle back and then the Pen keeping the Nats at bay.

Soto is on some kind of heater right now. Heck, a lot of the guys are with the bat. Pete, Lindor, Alvy…even Marte and Baty are swinging the bat well.

If the staff can figure things out then we have a shot to make a deep run.

Better chance of Soto joining the 40/40 club (needs 6 SB), Lindor joining the 30/30 club (needs 3 HR) or Pete going over 40 (needs 3 HR)?

I do not envy you guys having to rely on the Pirates on the road to bail y'all out. Bucs are terrible on the road.

That said, our pitching just shut out the A's for 22 straight innings. But all three games vs Reds should be pitching duels.

Not even really worried about the Reds/Pirates at this point, Mets have to be able to win or nothing matters

Hopefully the Mets sneak in and it doesn't matter, but I have a feeling if they don't get in Mendoza is the scapegoat.

Decisions like today leave me scratching my head. I think they waited too long during the season to start piggybacking Clay Holmes, which is fine. But they did it Tuesday, started Holmes and went to Manaea, and it was super successful. I have no idea why they decided to start Manaea and have Holmes follow him today

Horrible day to be a fan of the Mess & the Jest...

I’d say. Miracle finish squashed by Baker and co, and the never win after 8 Mets.

Tack on the league's low week in my main FFL and 3 lost parlays.
Did you have the Rams? LMFAO. I had Eagles and no business winning.

…back to the Mets. Tiebreaker Reds in 2 or 3 way with us and D Backs. But I think we go 1-2 tops in Wrigley. I hate this team.

I've got them going 2-1 against the Cubs because they have nothing to play for and aren't gonna want to push their starters too much and have them ready for the Wild Card series. I'm still optimistic about this team, they have plenty of talent

God bless, Navery. You sound like Mendy.
“This team has talent.” Dude is out of his element.

The only thing about this season that gives me some solace as it still isn't as bad of a collapse as 2007.
