The Official 2024 NY Mets Thread

1) It's amazing how a few innings can wipe away the feelings from a month of total dominance and turn me back into Chicken Little.
2) I would love to start this game, warm Sele up, have him go 2-3 innings then call it for weather. I feel like that's happened to us a lot in the past.

I've been checking out the weather in Atlanta and there is 0.00000% chance either of these games get played. If I'm the Mets, I get on a plane and head to Milwaukee right now. The Brewers are in Pittsburgh. Get comfy in Milwaukee, get some practices in, stay loose....instead of sitting in a hotel room the next two days unable to set foot outside or take part in any baseball related activities.

It's pretty much unavoidable at this point, but both teams having to play a double header Monday right before potentially starting a 3 game wild card series on Tuesday really sucks

The commissioners office must really hate Steve Cohen, allowing the Braves to jerk the Mets around like this. They moved up the Tiger game yesterday with rain in the forecast, but ignored the impending hurricane about to hit Atlanta?

Yeah not sure why the game wasn’t moved up considering the near certainty of the weather.

So, if we continued to win and proceed potentially it would look like:

In Milwaukee Thurs (no game)-Fri-Sat-Sun
In Atlanta Monday for a double header
In San Diego for games Tues-Wed-Thurs
Off day Friday
In Philly for the NLDS, Sat-Sun then back home for Game 3, Monday October 7th

10 straight road games over 10 days in 4 different cities in 4 corners of the US - Milwaukee to Atlanta to San Diego to Philadelphia....to head back to LA potentially. That's insurmountable. The packing and unpacking and plane travel and visitor facilities and disruption of routines. I'm pretty logical and realistic and that seems impossible.

I was literally driving by Citifield on the Van Wyck last night when Lindor drew the lead off walk. Thought it was a message from G-d. Game was turned off before I got on the BQE :mad::(

Great time for the bats to sh,,, the bed.
The collapse is in gear. Sad. Braves don’t lose when it counts. You can just feel we will be the odd team out of this 3 team race.

They're not playing well, but they still control their own destiny and I like their chances

Nice win today. Lindor was vintage. Home run. 2 RBIs. 2 stolen bases. Peterson has quietly proven himself this year. And now we just need to get 1 tomorrow. Ideally 2 and keep Atlanta out.

Strong disagree on the last sentence, win the 1st game and then play every backup and guy who's not making the playoff roster game 2

I will not sleep a wink tonight knowing Tylor Megill is toeing the rubber with our season on the line.

I’m not sure what is worse, how I feel as a Met fan going into tomorrow or how I’d feel as a diamondbacks fan.

We can play every back up on the team - I still would love to take 2 and keep Atlanta out.

I trust him more than Severino.
Do you trust PeteyBear in a clutch scenario? Can I get you to agree he is useless?

Ugh. I am at the point where I can’t argue for signing him anymore. Watching him whiff on sliders in big spots is eating a hole in my brain.

Damn, impressive 8th inning for Mets after Schwellenbach shut them down for 7 dominating innings.

Hope Mets pen can hold on.

5 Minutes Later: nevermind.

Another 5 Minutes Later: Hope Mets pen can hold on, again.

Personally I didn't love Diaz pitching yesterday up 5-0. He threw nearly 30 pitches, then we ask him to come in and get 5 outs today? That was not a good recipe there. But regardless of the set up, Diaz failed to cover first! I mean, hard to feel bad for him when that happens.

What a gutsy game. Wow.

I believe in Grimace.

When Lindor walked up to the plate in the 9th I knew he was coming through. He had an MVP season, and that was his moment. He's not getting the actual award over Ohtani, but he's an MVP

My guess on the playoff roster

C: Francisco Alvarez, Luis Torrens

1B: Pete Alonso

2B: Jose Iglesias

SS: Francisco Lindor, Luisangel Acuna

3B: Mark Vientos

OF: Brandon Nimmo, Tyrone Taylor, Harrison Bader, Starling Marte

Dan Hurley: JD Martinez

SP: Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, Jose Quintana, David Peterson

RP: Edwin Diaz, Phil Maton, Ryne Stanek, Jose Butto, Reed Garrett, Adam Ottavino

That leaves 4 spots. Jesse Winker probably makes it, though I'm not sure what to make of him not playing either game today unless he's hurt. I'd also prefer to see Baty over Eddy Alvarez

The bullpen options are slim so I guess I'll say Danny Young and Huascar Brazoban. Nobody else is really even playable

Pretty sure Eddy Alvarez can’t be on the playoff roster due to being acquired after the deadline.
