Attaway to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. , Edwin. You knew once that 2 strike blast cleared we were gonna get swept. And please uncle moneybags, do not under any circumstance throw money at the Polar Bear. The next big hit he gets will be his first.

It's amazing that after 2 or 3 years of posting in these Mets threads you still haven't had 1 post I agree with. If the Mets let Alonso walk they are beyond stupid

That’s on you. You probably like the Lindor contract, too.

Best description I heard about this team is they could be down 100-0 in the 9th. Theyd score 99 and load the bases with two outs and lose.

Alonso is difficult for me because some of the numbers I’ve heard are way too ridiculous. If someone offers him a bag I won’t be upset if the Mets don’t match.

For reference, I saw an article where the writer for the Athletic valued him at 7/190 and spotrac has his market value at 8/263 (allegedly it was 9/296 before the season started). If he’s getting anything close to the latter then good for him and I hope it’s someone else paying it.

Yes I like the contract the Mets gave the best player on their team
I don’t think he’s a steal, but I don’t know you can think he hasn’t been worth every penny the last two seasons. His early season struggles are annoying but since 4/14 he has an .888 ops while continuing to play a very good shortstop.

Yeah if that's the cost I can get being hesitant. I still think it's a tough sell to the fanbase to let the face of the team walk under new ownership that was supposedly not going to be cheap. It's the smart move to trade him in that scenario, I'm just not sure it's a realistic one

Lindor and Alonso have some similarities for me.

As far as stats are concerned, they put up elite tier numbers over the course of a season with pronounced slumps here or there. I'm not going to get into the baseball nerd talk here.

Aside from stats, they both play hard and play a ton, even when they're hurt. Good clubhouse guys. And I realize that's soft but they had a choice to sign Wright or Reyes to a big contract and they chose Wright because he could be the face of the team. I don't think Alonso's big contract hurts you over the life of it.

I know it was only 1 start but Christian Scott looks like the making of a good long term starter. Butto also looks good so far (I’m sure I’ll jinx him tonight). If those two can establish themselves this season and Senga comes back healthy, they have a very strong foundation for the SP with a lot of money coming off the books.

Is it just me or has Diaz not been the same since the Mets put Timmy Trumpet on the field that night?

Maybe.

I am not having any fun at all with this season.

I'm enjoying watching Christian Scott, I think he's got a chance to be really good considering his toughness and ability to pitch in addition to his stuff being really good. Other than that there's not much else to get excited about with this team.

Almost Memorial Day and we're 21-27, 6 games under .500 and 13.5 back in the standings.

Senga is still no where near coming back.
McNeil, Alonso, Lindor and Nimmo are all under .240.
Diaz looks god awful.
Alvarez is hurt through what, August?
No contract yet for Pete.
Uncle Steve tweeting about blowing up the roster at the AS break.
3/5ths of our rotation is Quintana (1-4, 5.21), Megill and Butto (1-3, deceiving 3.08) with Houser (0-4, 7.88) hopefully never seeing the mound again.
Mendoza appears to be a below average, subpar leader and motivator who potentially has lost the roster already.

At least we didn't blow 750m on Ohtani to sit there watching all of this.

Diaz ain’t right. And this team is horrific.
Garrett, a bright spot, teams have figured out. The wheels came off early this year, a month earlier. Summer’s gonna suck with a team that should be blown up by ownership by the all star game.

yet another lost season for long suffering Mets fans. New owner, new GM gave us hope but now is gone.

Ultimate responsibility goes to Cohen because he's at the top. That said.....

1) I don't know what we're supposed to see with Stearns. All we've gotten is small market garbage signings and no movement with Alonso's contract.
2) Mendoza looks outclassed and overwhelmed with zero leadership ability to this point. How many players only meetings has there been before June 1st?
3) Why exactly did we fire Buck again????

Somehow the Mets are only 4.5 games back of the 2nd wild card. I know that basically the entire league is between them and the playoffs, but baseball is a stupid game and one 10-2 stretch puts them right back in the thick of it. I don't think they'll do that but, as a Mets fan, I'm used to still thinking it isn't over until it's over and then going down with the ship :)

General thoughts on the season.

1. The bullpen really screwed things up after starting off as a strength. They've blown 6 games when leading after the 8th in the last month. Literally just be "bad" and lose 3 of those games instead and they are right in the middle of the mediocre WC race.
2. It's nice to see a young player with really good stats. I didn't think that was allowed and I know it's a small sample size, but I'd rather get excited about what Vientos is doing than trick myself into thinking Baty figured something out because he has a .720 or so OPS like he did early on. Give him the rest of the year at 3B and let's see if he can handle it.
3. Alvarez is on his way back so hopefully he can take a step forward (also the bad man that is Narvaez is gone!). Even still, getting a league average bat in that spot in the lineup will be a nice boost.
4. The young pitchers are making me feel better about the future. Not because I think there are any aces in there, but having cheap young guys who are legit backend starters allows flexibility to go after a bigger arm in FA and provides depth for the obvious injuries that will come up throughout the year. Sproat and Tidwell are both doing very well in the high minors so more darts to throw at the board are coming. Peterson has looked decent enough in his 2 starts and won't cost much for another 2 years.
5. Alonso and Lindor are starting to pick it up. If Alonso can go on a tear that would help both in the standings and for trade value should the team be out of it at the end of July. I'd prefer to keep Pete, but they don't have a contract in place and I'd rather trade him and then try to sign him back vs just losing him for nothing.
6. I'm starting to hate McNeil...I really want him to turn it around because he should at least have value as a super sub playing all over the diamond. Instead it's just weak contact all the time.
