Pete Prisco from CBS thinks Fashanu is going to sit for a year as well. I'm sure he'll get worked in and may start if an injury claims their aging free-agent tackles, but that doesn't necessarily sound like a win-now pick either.

You were correct with them picking Corley and Travis, but Travis probably won't be ready until mid/late season at the earliest and he has a number of drawbacks. With Tyrod being not too much younger than Rodgers, The Jets next fulltime answer at QB may not be on the 2024 roster.

So the Pats nailed the entire draft even when Mayes fundamentals have glaring holes per the pundits.

And the Jets flopped.

Got it.

Said by me, nowhere.

But now that you brought the red herring up, it's absolutely a matter of perspective.

I did say that the Jets may have stepped in it by allowing the Vikings to select a potential Rodgers replacement in front of them, but as @ShakyTheMohel mentioned, the Jets are in "Win-now" mode and the current brain trust went all in by acquiring Rodgers before last season. If it doesn't work out, who knows what the next regime would think of JJM, had they picked him. Given that, Fashanu was the better (if not sexy) call, even considering the various "pundits" noting that he may not play starters' snaps in year one.

The Corley pick fills a need and they got their QB project. Not sure how crazy I'd be selecting two running backs for a win-now franchise, particularly with Breece Hall in the backfield and a handful of affordable free agents still available. The Jets did okay, but it remains to be seen if their draft satisfies win-now. They really need their 40 year old starting QB, coming off a serious leg injury and possible (more than a) touch of CTE, to return to his former MVP caliber self.

The Patriots are in Improve-now mode and that begins on the offense. Drake Maye spent the last five months by being talked about as the 2nd QB off the board. The Patriots needed a QB and even if he sits for a portion (large or small) in 2024, it doesn't matter. They have a quality bridge in Jacoby Brissett. They still don't have a go-to receiver, let alone a #1, who scares DCs, but the two receivers selected should compete for snaps right away and should improve with experience, as well as offensive linemen. The Patriots' offense failed to find the endzone in 5 games last season. The D will be serviceable again, if only because they won't be asked to pitch shutouts, which is a near impossibility in today's NFL.

TL : DR? The Jets did not flop, but I believe the Patriots did better at this particular time and place, and with the respective resources at their disposal. Non of the three area teams approached Washington, who killed it.

So Rodgers and Reddick aren’t attending mandatory mini camp. That’s annoying.

They say Rodgers has another commitment that was important to him. I thought he said the Jets need to eliminate distractions?

Reddick’s failure to attend is puzzling. Douglas had to know that there were contract issues when they traded for him. Trading for him instead of signing Huff was a mystery to start with. Then they trade JFM. I hope Douglas knows what he is doing.

I always feel like these mini camp things aren't an issue until later on when there's an issue? You point back and say "I knew something was wrong when he missed mini camp". I'm far less worried about Rodgers. He is basically running the team and doing whatever he wants. Just keep him upright.

Yeah….i agree Rodger’s absence is probably ok. He has done the other offseason stuff. And the team has said good things about his leadership.

From what I have read…it appears the Jets thought they were on the same page as Reddick and that they would play out the season and figure out his contract then. But something changed. Not a good start for his tenure with the Jets.

Now Reddick is a camp holdout. This feels like another Douglas failure. How does he not know what he is getting into with this trade.

At least Rodgers is back from his crucial Egypt trip. I get this was a bucket list trip for him…but couldn’t go when he isn’t required to be at camp? or when he retires? Let’s hope he can avoid saying something stupid in camp about Kimmel, RFK Jr..or anything else.

Nothing is easy with this team.

I have stated my displeasure with Aaron Rodger’s actions off the field…but when it comes to salary…he is a team guy. As opposed to Reddick. It’s hard to believe that Daniel Jones has a higher salary than him.

Sounds like someone is giving him bad advice…

two weeks later and still no Reddick. Douglas is looking like a fool here. Reddick knows the Jets are all in for this season. He is rolling the dice that they will cave.

Jets are saying they won’t negotiate until he gets to camp…Reddick says he isn’t reporting without a new deal.

Who blinks first.

Well this is just getting worse. How embarrassing for Douglas.

You mean Douglas? The guy wants to get paid, so why trade for him if you aren't going to pay him?
From sources close to the team…the Jets had an agreement with Reddick that he would play this season and they would go from there. He changed his mind for some reason and decided to push harder for a new contract now. That’s why I said someone is giving him bad advice. His holdout has cost him over $1mm already.

I don’t think the Jets were ever going to pay Reddick…they were looking for a one year rental. That‘s why they only gave up a conditional 3 in 2026 for him. Douglas needs to win this year…that’s why he was willing to make the one year deal. I think Reddick holding out completely caught him off guard…which is not reflecting well on him.

I’m fine with the situation. I think the pick turns into a 6th rounder if he doesn’t play. He is giving up a year of his moneymaking window and has no leverage here.

If he doesn’t play a down this season their W/L doesn’t change a bit. He is just a piece of something bigger here.

Lookiing back…and this is what a good GM is supposed to do…wouldn’t you rather sign Huff…keep JFM than make this trade?

I would say, armchair qb, yes. But Reddick lied and changed his course. Should Douglas have foreseen that?

Without knowing the conversations. Douglas had with Reddick’s team..you can’t really know if he did enough or could have done more.

All i know is that I don’t think a player has ever asked for a trade…been traded….won’t report to a team and asks to be traded again. Other GMS have never had that happen.

How will this Reddick holdout end? He can’t actually walk away from game checks…can he? i would guess he was hoping for a significant injury in the preseason on the dline so the Jets would be desperate. That didn’t happen…so what’s his plan now?

I think Douglas is not happy about this…so I don’t see the Jets caving on this.

I don’t think the Jets blink. Sit out a year and lose a year of your prime and hope someone else will come through with a bigger contract on a 30 year old with a bad attitude? I’ll play that game of chicken.

Reddick will give in at some point. Because even if he's willing to give up a year of game checks, the Jets would still control his rights and he'd be in the same spot next summer except a year older

That’s what is so frustrating…Reddick never had the upper hand here…yet he kept holding out as if he did.

On Cimini’s podcast….he said he doesn’t think Reddick will ever wear a Jet uniform. He thinks Reddick misses a few games…then gets traded. He also thinks that Davante Adams gets traded…and he wouldn’t be suprised if it’s to the Jets for a second round pick..and that maybe the Jets throw in Reddick in that trade.

Good lord, the Jets haven't made the playoffs in 13 seasons.

well that was disappointing. Yes they were playing one of the best teams on the road. and yes their qb was playing for the first time in two years.

But i was surprised at the defense. especially the d Line. Did JfM and Huff mean that much to them? and when Mosley went out for a few plays…they were getting gashed.

but…Rodgers got to knock some rust off and showed promise. And the schedule gets easier for a couple weeks.
