It’s been pretty storybook so far. It’s impossible not to love the kid; looks and sounds like he’s from central casting, and these are the types of stories they will love to play up even more during the post-season. I find myself smiling automatically whenever I see him speak because his attitude is contagious, and I’ve been impressed with his maturity in the field as well. He didn’t get down when he couldn’t come up with that grounder the other night, and I thought he made a good choice not to attempt a throw last night when he grabbed that ball in foul territory.
That said, he’s definitely weaker and more tentative in the field than either Escobar or Guiilorme, and that will have to factor into playing decisions. Obviously a much better hitter than Escobar and more of a threat than Guillorme, but I could see him at Dan Hurley or pinch hitting frequently down the stretch even if he is not starting every day once they are both healthy. The question is going to be who goes down if we have all three of them active.
