The Official 2019 Mets Thread

Can we talk about Jeff McNeil?
The squirrel has been the surprise highlight of the season for me.

But it saddens me more by the day to see efforts like his and Alonso’s be for naught.

Kapler may have saved his job this week but let’s hope Callaway sealed his fate. He’s got the anti-Midas touch at this point.

I'm sure there's a stat out there, but just by sight, have the Mets hit an abnormal amount of opposite field HR's this year? Seems Alonso, McNeil, Conforto, Rosario and Ramos all have really good oppo power.

I keep checking for news that Callaway and Van Wegenen have been fired because I can't believe they haven't been yet. Really astounding.

I don't think BVW should go. At all. I think that, on paper, I agree with his moves. He was aggressive to address their needs. Cano got hurt. Lowrie has a mystery injury that has cost him half a season. And, inexplicably, Diaz now sucks. The Mariners were 66-0 when he pitched the ninth last year and he can't get a single save in a big spot suddenly.

Callaway? I have no answer for that one.

Im thinking the only reason Callaway wasnt fired after the roadtrip was not to detract from this weekend's celebration of the 1969 World Champions. He should be gone by Monday.

That's fair and yeah I agreed with BVW's moves on paper, too. But we're not paid to do this for a living and the team is a laughingstock; especially the bullpen, which is making history in a bad way every day. It's a business and heads should roll for these results. Maybe BVW gets a stay of execution but there is a stink on this team and they need to change the culture before great young talents like Alonso, McNeil and Smith get infected.

.-.
Callaway is the easy scapegoat. Managers usually get fired, not the GM. But you can only manage the players you have.
The Mets have no reliable CF that can hit or hit with power. They have no relief pitching.
They have no minor league reliable pitching (except for Kay) or outfielders.
BVW gave up their number 1 minor league pitcher and last year’s number 1 draft choice for Diaz and Old Man Cano.
Both of the young guys they traded have been invited to the Futures game. Oh well trade your future for an old great player and a guy that can’t handle the New York pressure.

Happy Bobby Bonilla day.

I gotta say. With the walls crumbling around the team, I liked seeing BVW sitting out with the 7 Line Army last night. I wanna have this Theo Epstein nonstandard GM feel about him. Why can’t they play better?!?!?

I had no idea what to make of BVW when they hired him and have to say, I'm impressed with every move he's made...including not just throwing 300m at Machado or Harper to make a splash.

The bullpen looks to be lights out.
The rotation, if healthy, can be top 3 in the NL - I wouldn't mind adding someone like Keuchel.
Ramos could be a steal at C. Looks like he has all the tools plus a no BS attitude.
The IF finally has depth and lots of options (and one of them isn't Jose Reyes finally).
The OF lacks power, but could be serviceable and defensively decent.
Peter Alonso is a wild card. The guy just hits the out of the ball. If he's for real, that's a huge power lift.
Up to the manager now. The front office filled most of the holes, provided depth....now Callaway has to prove himself.

BVW is an alltime trainwreck - of course Dupester was a fan. @August_West

.-.
Yeah let’s hire an agent who trades for his former clients.

Success baby!

Revisionist history. Coming into the offseason, he filled the holes the team had and locked down deGrom.

a) No one knows what is wrong with Brandon Nimmo.
b) Jed Lowrie has missed half a year.
c) Cespedes "should" have been almost back by now....and broke both his ankles.

Besides that, it looks more and more like Thor just is what he is and not a special top tier ace. And no one knows what's wrong with Diaz. The Mariners were 66-0 with him pitching the 9th last year.

Can't pin any of the above on BVW.

They butchered the hire by going with BVW instead of Bloom. Butchered.

You're still not showing how any of this is his fault.

Lol sure i’ll spend a bunch of time trying to talk sense into you off all people.

He traded Kelenic for Cano. He shouldn’t be allowed near a front office.

To be fair, it was for Diaz.

But if they weren’t gonna pay for the front end of the cano deal, why take the backend?

Lowrie was pretty redundant when they needed a cf, but this was not a great cf market.

It’s 2019 nobody with a clue trades for relief pitchers.

Mets did both. Diaz via trade and the all time worst move by Brodie. Familia via free agency.

You mean like the Andrew Miller trades?

Or Aroldis Chapman?

Or kela and Osuna deals last year?

Or Zack Britton? Or brad hand?

Sorry I forgot you are brain dead and I meant nobody with a clue trades anything of value for relief pitchers.

Like 3 time World Series champion Theo Epstein? Or Cleveland, who has one of the strongest front office farm systems in the game? Their front office gets raided quite a bit. Like the twins gm.

Theo Epstein won the world series with the Red Sox in 2007. The sport has changed. Everyone has 8 guys in the bullpen who pump gas. Nobody with a clue gives up a legit asset for a relief pitcher anymore.

.-.
lol yeah id go to the wall for this bush league clown.

I just consider myself lucky that you’re here to tell us how much you know about everything.

Because I’m sure Jim Calhoun never threw a chair in a meeting after a loss.

Aw - does someone get upset when the loser they are defending continues to fail miserably at a job they aren’t qualified for?

Any time you want to again try to explain how it falls on him, we’re still waiting.

10 under .500. Meaningless summer ball. Cespedes, Lowrie, Cano, Lagares, Kemp top our salary chart.
Our only trade bait got lit up today.
And Vargas starts our second half Friday. Good times
