Probably because the new coach was named less than 24 hours ago is my guess.
But they got their release after the coach was hired, if Mack still wanted to leave, wouldn't it be announced at the same time?

They didn't 'announce' anything - the coach just stated that the two recruits had now asked for their release. Wade spoke to the two of them today - I gather he is yet to speak to Mack.

No matter - VCU is losing the whole class.

Williams is a shooter, btw...

I would count that as an "announcement." Might not really be but the coach speaking out about it is pretty significant.

Mack has asked. There are two reasons he may not be included in this 1) the new coach hasn't talked to him yet 2) it was already out there. He isn't staying most likely.

Kenny Williams would be great to pursue. He was down to UNC (who had lost momentum and has a dark cloud above them), Michigan (no scholarship available, VCU, and Georgetown. We might as well jump in.

  • Scout’s Notes:
Nike EYBL-Dallas (May 9th-11th, 2014): Williams is a lights out shooter who can put the ball on the floor and attack. He has good range on his shot and has a quick release as well. His length makes him a solid defender and he has a pretty solid basketball IQ.

.-.
Wheres STB when you need him?
BTW I made that ride once years ago. It can't tell you how long it took but it wasn't that long I'd say it was between 2 to 3 beers long

20 minutes then?

Listened to the local Richmond sports radio a few days ago and they basically said that he wouldnt actually release anyone until he spoke to them. LIke many said, he probably just hasnt spoken to Mack yet.

Makes me think he's staying. Why woulsnt he get his release with the others if he wanted it?

Maybe he went to VCU not for the coach, but for the Twitter followers.

Will KO be "taking the stairs" to Orlando?

For some reason, that made this pop into my head...

Did I miss the part where he asked him about VCU?

He started by saying he was "originally committed to VCU," but I didn't hear any other discussion.

To me, that just seems like a polite way of not discussing the issue because it's not wrong but it also doesn't answer any questions.

Mr. Mack made a curious follow yesterday. Crazy Fan interpretation: we're in his head. He's thinking about us again. KO owns some real estate in his brain. Rational person interpretation: Stop analyzing what a kid does on twitter, it means absolutely nothing.

His recent background on his twitter profile is Kevin Durant. The Kevin Ollie and Kevin Durant relationship, I think we are on to something here.

Kevin Durant also went to Texas...which is where Shaka Smart coaches basketball.

If Mack has seen the Grantland interview where Durant talks about how Ollie changed the whole culture in Oklahoma City you would think that would be enough to lock him up.

hahaha backfired - grasping at straws here. If he is indeed a huge KD fan then playing at KD's alma mater will hold more weight than KO's connection to him

I bet he ends up at Texas. He made it clear that Shaka Smart is the reason he committed to VCU in the first place. Now he'll follow him to Texas. But don't give up Ollie. As @Yankees32123 said, get on the phone. Make the best effort possible to bring him to Storrs. If he chooses to go elsewhere we should at least be able to say we gave it all we had.
