Pretty sure he was talking about the people that say "next" (as in I don't care about this kid anymore because there's negative momentum and if he does commit no one will remember I said "next" anyway) not the people who give us actually information.

I actually was criticizing the people who give us information but I immediately felt stupid doing so. These guys all have histories of providing us with good info and no one is 100% so I should have kept it zipped. I was just annoyed to see another "next" when there has already been multiple flip flops from "next" to "I like where we stand" from the same people. It seems obvious that Mack's camp was putting out misinformation and I was hoping that our recruiting guys would have sat this one out after they were repeatedly incorrect.

I'll say this much, don't pin this one on the conference as a few of you like to do, it's all about early playing time.

Bull s---.

The top recruiting schools stack recruits like cord wood.

If Mack chooses VCU, he's heading to a top-20 school that already has a top 50 recruit at his position.

Kevin Ollie doesn't keep losing recruiting battles to the likes of VCU or Florida State if he's not pushing this crap conference.

If the conference is killing us so much in this recruitment, why is the kid going to play in the A-10? It may be moderately better than the AAC, but from the vantage point of a 17-year-old, I doubt there's much difference between playing St. Joe's, URI, and Dayton and Memphis, Cincinnati, and Temple.

I don't doubt it plays a role, but I think its impact is largely overstated on this board. From what I've gleaned from recruiting, these tend to be the questions recruits ask before they even consider the conference: "Can I get to the league from here?" "How much do I like the coach?" "Am I comfortable here?" "Will my mom be able to watch me play?" "What type of exposure do they offer?" Sure, playing Syracuse and Georgetown and Louisville every other night in the old Big East was a nice carrot to dangle, but when we're talking about losing recruits to the likes of South Carolina, I have to believe playing time is a far, far bigger detriment than conference affiliation.

Interesting how the word "sketchy" got into the article on LaBissiere's team around him and the teams recruiting him. Just wondering how GTown got in withe actual sketchy one's in UK, Memphis, UNC and Baylor?

The end result varies, no one is right here. For some kids it looks like it has been playing time, for others a chance to stay home. I'm sure the conference plays a part thanks to the persistence of the negative recruiting by others and hey, why not? But in Mack's case if he chooses VCU that wouldn't make sense as the A10 isn't even the AAC.

Kids are all over the place - UConn will be fine no matter what happens in the next 2 weeks.

The pressure to stay local will probably win out. I thought of this even more when talking to my neighbor about his son going to college next year and how adamant he was about the kid being in driving distance. Takes a special and tough kid to get out of his comfort zone.

Agreed. I can think of at least five legitimate reasons why Mack won't choose UConn. Playing in the AAC is not one of them. UConn is a national brand and garners national exposure regardless of where it plays.

To me, recruiting at UConn has always been a bit frustrating to watch because it does seem like we miss out on a lot of kids we have no business missing on. But in the end(as we have learned) I strongly believe this plays to UConn's advantage. We attract a specific type of kid.....and over the long run, it works out masterfully. The weeding out process, by our choice or the recruit, isn't as fun.

Very well stated. I'll state the same thing in a different way.

We all were aware of JC's recruiting process. For those of you who aren't aware check out the CPTV special "Born to Lead". JC never pandered to recruits. He made it clear to all of them they would have to earn the right to play. We also saw how JC handled the King - Voskuhl fight. He wanted kids who played for him to be tough.

It was JC's philosophy to start the weeding out process during recruitment. This doesn't mean that every kid who rejected UConn wanted to take the easy path. As pointed out, there are other factors. But it did reduce the chance of getting certain kids. On the other hand it explains why we often saw UConn's 3rd or 4th recruiting option perform better than the first three options who chose other schools. It wasn't just coaching superiority. It was coaching superiority combined with having the right type of player.

So what are the odds that KO is doing the same thing? Pretty darn good considering he went through JC's recruiting process, and because JC has mentored him.

And one thing KO has that JC didn't is the ability to have support by the media. I expect over time that KO will out recruit JC and still have the "tough" kids come to the program.

#STTRecruiting: Source tells us now that Tevin Mack has decided to decide today, but that he is still undecided about the decision he made last night. He is leaning toward the decision he made this morning, but it's unclear whether that decision is final because this has yet to be decided, and it will not be decided until he decides to be undecided.

I think Mack is just with VCU fans at this point, which I'm okay with.

Hearing that 2015 SF Tevin Mack will commit to UConn. Huge get for the Huskies who missed out on Chris Clarke.

DO NOT FREAK because i do not know how much this guy actually knows. Nobody else has said anything but he is a recruiting insider for 247 sports..again like 99 always says, take it with a grain of salt.
