that would make it even less likely it was about KO's job security.
That was more the "nobody wants to play on a crappy team" thing. Likely the same with Bamba.

It's the Morelli's and other good but multi-year players we missed on that fit the narrative.

Agreed.

Bamba was really what this team lacked anyway. Classic uconn big.

Hence why i'm not obsessed with pulling Carigan out of the JUCO ranks.

If Ollie had spend more time following up on committed recruits, we wouldn't have lost them, which would have resulted for less need for taking the best available grad transfers, which would have resulted in more wins, which mean he would have kept his job.

Some of that seemed like possibly BS.

Other posters mentioned that there were multiple photos of him at MAL games, certainly more than the one reported in that scathing ESPN article.

Maybe there's still some merit to it, but at the same time, how much coddling do these kids need? Especially when everyone is in-season.

It's speculation but we have kids saying that it was a factor. If kids need to be "coddled" to get them in the door, that was a big part of what KO was getting paid for. If Calhoun made time for it, and he did, KO certainly should have.

who?

I remember 3 recruits decommitting in Ollies tenure.

Prince Ali
MAL
and
Turtle Jackson. I think we didnt really want turtle anyway.

So unless you can show me MAL and Prince saying that not being coddled was a factor in their decommitting I think its probably hogwash.

I may be missing a decommit, but none but those 3 come off the top of my head.

Zach Brown - though not sure as to the level of non-coddling that occurred with him vs. his own personal issues being the problem

That one was mutual.

Also onsidering the kid is now a Transvestite in jail and after not staying in high school because of fighting, its hard to hold Ollie accountable there.

If kids weren't worried (rightly) that KO would be fired, he might have landed Bamba. The unsuccessful seasons created a death spiral for KO that would have been nearly impossible to pull out of: bad seasons lead to players thinking he may not be there long, a dearth of talent coming in leading to more bad seasons...

Not speaking to anyone specific, but....there was a lot of doe being thrown around out there too.

A lot of coddling. Kids seem a bit more wishy-washy about their decisions these days. And in the world of SM, vanity and ego stroking rules all. Furthermore, nobody resepectfully backs off and stops recruiting kids any longer. Social media and txting etc allows other coaches to pump your recruits til the bell. Gotta stay on it.

Not @whaler11 . He wants it to drag on, bankrupt the school and the state, and expose the administration as corrupt and incompetent.

I do find myself rooting for KO because I don’t want them to be rewarded for their lame end around and avoid responsibility.

They are corrupt and incompetent - y’all will slowly realize it just like y’all did on Diaco and Ollie.

Herbst tied herself to him a few years ago and now he’s the scapegoat.

Which would have only masked all his other deficiencies. We are in a much better place as a program now. I will gladly trade the last couple of really bad seasons for a much better long term future. Even the most steadfast Ollie supporters have to realize that the program is in a better spot now.
