I have been mildly concerned with the assist numbers - my feeling is that if you have passing instincts, you'll get them. You can lead fast breaks, hit-aheads off turnovers or long rebounds, broken plays, offensive rebounds, or making a read on your own iso move. I remember my old coach ripping our point guard for a two-assist game and saying "I could put a dead guy out there and he could get two assists from people bouncing the ball off his (bad word) coffin".
But in high school, Demary did do this on a loaded team, so that's a little more encouraging that he has more potential as a passer than Georgia allowed him to show.
"He averaged 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists while at Combine Academy, which went 35–5 and was ranked 25th in the ESPN SCNext poll in Demary Jr.'s senior season there"
