Were they able to get onto those guys earlier than us because of better talent identification, or because we were hamstrung from getting onto the trail because of our APR sanctions?
I was just pointing out to him that VCU has been a thorn in our backside for more than just this past recruiting period.

As for your points, think they are both true in regards to both prospects, but seems like Ollie was able to play catch up pretty fast in both cases and brought UConn into the final two (probably a testament to his hard work in recruiting). It's possible that VCU's long standing relationship with both recruits was the winning factor. But that is something that needs to be overcome during recruiting, and something UConn will need to get better at in the future.

Hamilton being in the fold didn't help with Larrier either and honestly Hamilton is better.

2-1 recently against VCU. They got Larrier and Mack and UConn got Enoch.

VCU kicked our ass for Larrier and Mack.

Shaka brought his whole staff in for a visit late with Mack. We sent Ricky Moore.

Knife, meet gun fight.

Smart's a terrific coach - guy can build a program and he's going to be cashing some P5 school's checks sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I got that - was legitimately only just asking a question.

For sure. Though it's promising that we seem to be on our 2016 & 2017 targets much earlier in the process. We're the first major program to offer guys like Waters, Diallo, Samuels, Rafus, Japhet-Mathias and a few others.

Fingers crossed.

Overconfidence is the issue. I don't care how big some egos are here, just because we're UCONN doesn't mean we can get away with sending one assistant to make a kid feel wanted.

I didn't know that story.

Good learning experience, and hopefully a mistake we don't repeat when it comes to Carter, Brown, Kegler, and whoever else our top targets are over the next 18 months.

I don't know what they were thinking with the Mack recruiting, but we were after him, Clarke and Jones and KO got his ass kicked on all. I always wondered if they were all in on Jones and didn't go as hard after the other two as they should have. With Mack they were very late to the party, and got on Clarke a bit late as well. I wonder if KO had spent too much time courting elite recruits and not enough on more attainable ones. I'm not saying that's the case, but I did wonder such.

Prince Ali reneging really killed the wing recruitment.

i think the crazies on twitter had a major influence, especially on mack

but that's unacceptable on the boneyard

but apparently every kid should be begging to come here, we have a NC and vcu doesnt... /s

Come on, we're UCONN! We need to grab up every single burger boy to keep up with the Joneses (Kentucky)! *mumble mumble* Stone *mumble mumble* Newman...

Have to admit I will no longer read these threads.

You have to be in complete denial (I tried to be) to not be worried about Uconn closing on talented players. Somehow, whether it's our staff or the negative recruiting (or both) we have suddenly become mid major in this world.

Karl Hobbs needs to go down to Dicks, buy a tent and pitch it outside this kids house and not leave until we get a commitment.

You realize that we have a consensus top 20 class at this time in the cycle for the first time this decade? And that the last two classes have had a McDonald's AA, two borderline 5-stars that we beat the likes of Arizona, UCLA, Kansas and Louisville for, and a 4-star local big?

Multiple reports say he's instead attempting to slide into Carter's DMs

I can barely stand these threads either because while half of the posters are (allegedly delusionally) not worried, the other half are going crazy over a few years of recruiting failures during a period of time that was designed to have recruiting made difficult.

And it's like the bold where some of you just have to take it. What mid-major is getting the likes of Rodney Purvis, Daniel Hamilton, and Jalen Adams over the last 2 years.

Or won a nc? Or has the ooc schedule we have every year?

I've been following recruiting a long time, as many others have I am sure. I do realize the APR set us back and I have mentioned that for a couple years now. I do believe (hope) we will have a better 2016 class than we have now. However, when you are in the situation we are as defending NC's, PG - U and the "family atmosphere" how can we keep losing to VCU, UNLV, Marquette, Vandy and others? I mean I don't find it hard to believe we could lose a few to these people and early on I was with everyone to please calm down. I tried not to listen to Fishy or Zionn early on thinking they were just a bit pessimistic. But now I really do believe there is something missing. There's no doubt I'm happy as hell to have Jalen Adams coming in and don't feel the NE thing is the only reason. Also Enoch although he was a huge fan all of his life. Like it or not we need more talent and better players or we are mediocre again next year. If we are only a 17-18 win team again the negative recruiting is going to be all over the place and tough to overcome. It's real guys and gals, it's real we need a magician to appear and pull a rabbit out of his a** I'm afraid.

I think we are missing a number one recruiter who can woo a player and his family. Everything else is in place, but that.
