September 2019 WNBA Discussions, scores, game info, pictures

On the one replay they showed it looked like Bonner's elbows only got air - by about 5". They only ended up calling a common (offensive) foul, but I didn't think she even deserved that. Great acting job IMO. Even the announcers were saying if she reacted THAT way then DeWanna MUST have got her in the head. So look at all the relays - geez!
The Phoenix announcers are really, really bad.

Anyway, that call was probably karma balancing out for Sancho Lyttle's egregious acting job against Seattle the other night. ;)

I watched part of LV vs. Phoenix. I thought an interesting little side note was that Griner and Cambage, who have both been very vocal about refs not calling all the fouls that are being committed against them, were guarding each other much of the time.

I thought it looked like an acting job in real time. That was a strange sequence, about 4 or 5 possessions in a row with an offensive foul or traveling call.
The game was tied at 89. Then those I think an out of bounds pass, two travels and that terrible offensive call sealed the deal for the Mercury.

The Aces had at least 1 travel and 1 offensive foul called against them during that segment, it wasn't totally one sided.

I didn't mean it like the refs costed them it. The turnovers were pretty legit calls, and Bonner should know that swinging her elbows that quickly can make it look like a foul. I meant it like, it sealed the deal for them because they are not a very good defensive team. If they take away possessions from themselves in a game that close, they aren't going to win.

Is there any possible way she gets a third year? If she does I think it's proof the ownership just doesn't care.
Katie needs to go. I think the players are being good soldiers, but they have to be discouraged that they could coach the team better than she is. I suspect (hope?) new owner Tsai will move them to the Barkley Center next year and bring in a new coach to create excitement.

I suspect that the new owner -- who if memory holds took over the team fairly deep in the offseason -- wanted to see how everything played out, including the coaching. With the move to Brooklyn, I'd have to think a new approach is almost called for....

Last two years a 15-19 record gets you in the final playoff spot
Mercury this year and last year Dallas Wings with Cambage and Diggens-Smith

Point taken, but in regards to the Liberty, they're not even close to that mark:
2018: 7-27
2019: 10-24

I've got to think Joseph Tsai has slightly higher aspirations, particularly how the other professional basketball team he now owns -- the Brooklyn Nets -- methodically raised themselves out of the dust.
Let's hope same knd of approach is taken and the stronger elements of the Liberty are added to and refined.

At least a year too long.
Strangely, I was hoping they kept her another year. Her team was showing some growth and players who could score and run the floor to balance Mckowan. They were all getting better getting her the ball.
I wonder if Pokie knew yesterday.

Indiana didn't wait long in canning Pokey.

Missing the playoffs with 19 wins over the last 2 seasons won't buy you a lot of job security. She'll turn up somewhere else. Either at the WNBA or D-1 college level. Bye-bye Pokey. :D

In other news................The Atlanta Dream took a huge fall from grace this year. 21-8 last year (making the playoffs), to a league worst 8-26 this year. Heads may be on the chopping block there as well.

I am guessing a big factor was taking so long to get Teiera into the starting lineup.

In yesterdays Sky v Mystic game Gabby Williams was shown walking to the locker room with 1.03 left in the game. It looks like she was holding her right hip. She came out with 3.03 left in the game but I dont remember anything awkward with her in the game.

Indiana needs a true facilitator at the point. With the Mitchell's and Vivians next year at 2 and 3. Then Dupree and McCowan down low, they just need that distributor at the point. Wheeler is ok, but more of a scorer and too short to defend big guards.

As far as a coach goes, maybe Tamika would be interested.

I guess there is no time to rest for WNBA players. Karlie Samuelson played Sunday for Dallas in its final game and got on the plane the next day and was practicing with her new team in Spain on Tuesday. Oh to be young again.

I am guessing they will withhold the ROY announcement to as late as possible so they can keep discussing it. At least as long as Pheesa is in the Playoffs.

How is this game close? No Taurasi, Griner went out w/ an injury, Bonner can't hit anything. This should be a blowout but it's a 3 point game at halftime.

Well to answer my own question 10 FTA for Phoenix to only just 3 for Chicago is somewhat of a factor.

12-0 run to start Q3 for Chicago. Griner tried to go w/ a knee brace but she's a bit hobbled and can't keep up w/ the pace of this game.

Did they say WHY Taurasi isn't playing? Just hasn't made enough progress or did she teak something again?

I think hamstring problems after coming back from the back injury.

Briann January was huge in the 2nd quarter.

Also Lyttle made a couple of jumpers that Chicago was happy to let her shoot. And anothe here in the 3rd.

I can't believe they let her try it. She looked so gimpy in warmups. Clearly not moving right.

January just shoved Sloot to the floor, no call. Phoenix has about twice as many FTs as Chicago. Bonner draws a foul every time she touches the ball. Jeez, refs just kill me.

Lou should be coming in. Lets get some positive plays Lou.

Good tough D rebound in traffic
Nice assist instead of launching a shot.
