Rodney Purvis transfer rumour

Apparently purvis has been working out at the local YMCA. there's definitely a rift between him and the nc state program.

Well, you'd think NBA first rounders like Josh Boone and Hilton Armstrong could be considered studs. Boone had only offers from low majors before he went to prep school.

Is Rutgers a low major? Hilton, on the other hand, chose between UConn and Iona.

Carrington is more of a SG, could play SF if in a 3 guard lineup but he needs to get his weight up and he's a lil shorter than Omar. Hill can play SG and could play SF just like Omar has, they're pretty much the same size. SG/SF are really the two primary positions when it comes to the recruitment of those two. I don't know about PG for Carrington, his mom mentioned it in Borges's blog post, his handle seems fine but there are two other primary ballhandlers/table setters on his HS team before Carrington is asked to do that stuff. There's a big difference between being a PG in HS compared to the college level and actually running an offense, as we've seen with Boat. Even Omar was talked about as playing PG sometimes at CTK and that's the last thing we want him doing on offense here.

Ha, I don't want to see Omar at PG either! I read Carrington is mostly a SG, but a solid handle. That I can't confirm. Hill seems a good 6'5" so that's a familar SF size we've seen before. I'm just saying I've heard from others that UConn could sell their recruits as being able to play multiple positions, so there's less competition for minutes. Who really knows, but if they get Purvis, that's probably what they'd say to recruits who are looking to play for Ollie. I've also read Purvis can play some PG, that I is something I don't think I saw him do in the couple NC State games I saw. Hopefully we can agree, it would be a nice problem to have. Not everyone can be a starter, so some guys will just have to buy into it, put their pride aside and let their play determine their time on the court.

Well I did say take this with a grain of salt but it could mean something

Exactly. The sign wasn't your post (good catch, BTW), it was the fact that it actually might mean something. And that somehow we can instantly find out about such a thing.

FWIW, I'm hearing no dice on the Purvis to UConn rumor w/ Calhoun here. Just relaying what I heard from a top person.

.-.
.-.
I should've also noted he doesn't see Purvis transferring despite some unhappiness.

Someone needs to come in here and throw some cold water on this party. Where is BurnBros to tell us that Purvis isn't really that good and we shouldnt waste a schollie on him?

I would take Purvis. No cold water here. I'm really sorry I said I did not want Jaren Sina you must of been a big fan of his.

I couldn't care less about that particular player. I'm just making the point that when someone's opinion fails to vary time and time again, it ceases to have any real value.

Ok guys I don't like Sina and Lavine. Recruiting neither. Guys I like Carrington Peak Hill Black Abu Pascal. All better big guy?

Yes, Rutgers is a low-major. Hell, even Central goes to the NCAA tournament every now and again.

Josh actually was 'guided' to prep school by UConn and Maryland who were both interested to the point where Boone was comfy in passing on RU for a better deal down the road.

Hilton picked UConn over LaSalle and Illinois.

I lost the point of this thread three pages ago. I feel lost - not even sure why I am responding.

I don't have hard data but I believe the useful life of the average thread is 3-4 pages before it disintegrates into rants and a pi$$ing match. However, there are outliers, most on the CR board. For example the B1G which oscillates from useful to horrid and returns to a decent thread.

Guy says they should hear something on Purvis by next weekend. Odd that guys from Scout or Zag haven't heard anything or commented So I, like some, will take this with a grain of salt..

UConn isn't even allowed to talk to him, so you'd assume that a lot of this is just chatter.

Wasn't OC trying to get Purvis to join him? Anyway, as you know mau, there isn't a difference between the 2 and the 3. With Shabazz, and possibly Boat gone, what would be the issue?

Agreed from here husky4.......one's a 6'3" guard and the other is a 6'2 or 3" guard, both strong and can rebound.....can play at the same time no doubt!!!

.-.
Again, TIFWIW, but Ollie just started following Purvis on twitter.
Yup and that happened today. That is way more telling than Purvis following Boatright and vice versa. If you look at who KO follows, he follows players that he is recruiting so this is a great sign. Also, Purvis and Boatright were talking to each other on twitter a few hours ago.

It can go either way. On one hand the high-mid-lower major classification seems to be based on conference, rather than program. Is Gonzaga a high-major? But Rutgers does indeed suck. Thanks for confirming that Boone had the Rutgers offer BEFORE prepping.

FWIW, Duffy just followed Purvis on twitter. I was thinking about why Purvis wasn't following KO but another school, if he decides to transfer, can say Kevin Ollie committed violations by talking to Purvis while he was still at his signed school. They can't have contact until he is released of his LOI and officially out at NC State. The situation was also made clear to me today by the person that started all of these rumors. He said that Purvis is still exploring all of his options still. Then he said if he transfers it not definitely to UConn however, he said KO feels he has a great chance. Also Gottfried is trying to patch things up so he stays at NC State. We should know within the next week.

They changed the rules recently, not at all certain that twitter is anything like texting or a phone call. I thinkit's not. It's a news feed when you break it down to its essence. There is really the NCAA could do to stop Ollie from following what players broadcast to the world. So, not a violation.

I understand what you are saying but I'm not talking about the normal feed. I'm talking about the direct messages that coaches and players send to each other. Once a National Letter of Intent is signed, prospective student-athletes are no longer subject to further recruiting contacts and calls. Since Purvis is signed with NC State he cannot have contact with other coaches about him transferring because he is still signed with NC State.

You can look at it like this: I will use Kendal Yancy-Harris' situation. He was signed with USC and since the coach was fired he asked for his release. At that time college coaches still couldn't contact him yet. They couldn't until USC officially released him.
