They've been watching the football program commit suicide for close to ten years, they should be releived its almost over.

I agree. Why kill just football when you can torpedo the entire athletic department.

Smart move, champ.

Football is awful and a big money loser. They should be happy to land anywhere at this point. People talk about the loss of media contract money. Well, if that is mitigated somewhat by a deal with SNY then the rest can be made up in lowering costs. Someone mentioned digital production costs already. There would also be reduced costs for all sports. They will save a ton on travel costs alone.

Because it is 100% the right move. We were never getting an invite to the Big 10 or ACC, the Big East is where we should have always been
They just spent how much money on the FB lockers and weight room? Nothing this school does makes any sense. At the very least save that money for the buyout.

A couple of things. Remember when Louisville announced their move, they had already filed their intent to leave the AAC; even before they knew where they'd end up. That notification helped reduce their timeline and buyout to the conference.
Secondly, if UConn followed a similar path it could explain lack of tier 3 rights from the new TV deal. UConn was probably the only AAC school looking hard at retaining 3rd tier rights.

Is that when they announced their intention to leave mere seconds after word broke that Pitt and 'Cuse were going to the ACC? If so, then that's a lie peddled by Louisville and others.

If the hundreds of reporters working in Connecticut allow the board of trustees and Herbst to do this before getting concrete answers about the financial benefit to this move and the plan for football than we deserve our fate.

Sounds like we’re just waiting for the vote and invitation. No brainer for both sides as Uconn and Big East are attached at the brand hip.

Side note: I think when the story is written years from now Dan Hurley is the reason we moved back home. His lobbying and salesmanship won the right people over.

So, so happy about this.

The football program generates little to no interest and will never be successful on the scale to which the University once hoped. Basketball is the lifeblood of this athletic department and it has been withering away in the AAC.

A return to the Big East will rejuvenate a fan-base that is in desperate need of a kick-start. When do season tickets for the 2020-2021 season go on sale?? LET'S GO!!

And now the basketball team will as well.

Win freaking win, baby!!!!

Blog writer: Hey man you got any more of that sweet St. John's news?
St. John's insider: Uhhh not really. Oh yeah i guess UConn is joining the Big East
BW: wait what
SJI: Yeah idk if I'm supposed to tell you anyway how's the blog going
BW: great now

It is a major sport. I think the problem are the delusional UConn fans who think the only sport that matters or exists at UConn is basketball. Major Universities have 3 major sports and care about each equally.
Equally? Come on now, you don't really believe that, do you? Football drives the bus unless it is financially killing the AD. Basketball is second. Baseball is a distant third and maybe tied with hockey.

How are reporters going to really impact this? UCONN will do what is best for UCONN. You don't think UCONN has had plenty of time to look at options and know what is financially best for them? I think they no football is going Independent with this move.

This move centered around the horrible AAC contract and third tier rights to broadcast games on SNY. They also see all their Olympic sports having a chance to not lose so much money because of travel.

Where is this narrative that they didn’t forecast or analyze multiple scenarios coming from? They’re obviously not going to blindly change conferences.

If legit, this is great news.

As a UConn fan who also cares about our football program, I'd prefer them to be in the MAC.

It makes the travel schedule so much easier with Bradley giving direct flights to three MAC hubs: Detroit (Central, Western and Eastern Michigan), Cleveland (Toledo, Bowling Green, Akron, Kent State) and Cincinnati (Ball State, Miami, Ohio).

Plus, UConn gives the conference instant brand recognition but doormat status to keep the other teams in the running for the title.

Wasn’t sure which way I felt but it feels good to stick it to Disney after their failure to help us

Yeah figuratively killing yourself totally sticks it to the man. SMH.

If you went to UConn, yes you should care about each equally and not just pretend Basketball is the only sport that exists.
