Providence Post Game Thread

I think we’ve gotten bored and laxed on our execution and intensity. No one besides maybe St John’s I think will get these guys competitive juices flowing. They know against these guys they can just piss around and win.
That is a recipe for disaster and it’s coming

Yes, because he makes big plays when needed and because Coach trusts him. That's how rotations work.
Right. But if he isn’t putting the team in a hole byshooting 3–14 then he wouldn’t need to make big plays. Both things can be true.

Alex is a great complementary player, but he’s not a great featured player.

The issue is that Dan Hurley has pumped him up, Captain America and all that, and given him free reign on the offensive end.

However, AK is best and most efficient being the fourth or fifth option. Put him back in the role he played in his freshman and sophomore years, fourth or fifth option, for taking shots.

Reed has regressed.
He has trouble securing the ball which was sort of masked last year but is becoming a problem this year. He is susceptible to defenders swiping at the ball when he makes his initial post move and when he attempts to secure rebounds. The ball security issues are a surprise given his size and strength.

I am tired of hearing about the wrist. I didn't hear about it last game when he played well. If it's that big an issue why is he playing?

Solo is where Karaban was last year. Obviously hurt where it's impacting his performance in a major way, with a bunch of imbeciles claiming he sucks. The difference is that Solo doesn't offer as much when he isn't shooting well.

Reed is the least of our problems…..

Love being 20-1, 10-0 in BE, but man oh man do we have some work to do and important things to iron out if we want to reach the mountaintop this year…

We just cannot defend a team well that plays with pace and who can dribble drive from the top of the key.

Our FTs down the stretch continue to be abysmal.

Too many wasted possessions on offense with TOs and bad shot selection.

Fairly weak rebounding effort.

And when did our student section become so docile? The shots on TV were embarrassing. If you watched Duke and BYU games last night, our student section looked like they were at an intramural chess club match.

To be fair BYU was playing their biggest game of the year vs the #1 team in the nation.

There seemed to be a lot more students than usual wandering around the concourse. $2 beer night may have something to do with it.

Karaban is shooting 48/40/80 on volume this season and is the most important off-ball piece in this offense. What are you even talking about right now?
AK is by no means perfect, but his presence on the floor goes well beyond missing some buckets.

I won’t argue it. But we’re only giving up 64 points a game on 39% shooting. That’s elite. We need to put the ball in the basket more often. We went 8minutes + in the first half without a field goal. And that’s been the trend. The defense has saved us this season.
And still finished with 23 assists on 29 made field goals.

He’s acting like Ross has somehow earned minutes over Karaban.
Don’t put words in my mouth. It’s not right to completely bench someone over one mistake when you then let a guy play without consequence.

Just let guys play and hold them to the same standard. Whether it’s being super critical of every mistake, or allowing guys to play freely through mistakes.

But treat everyone that way.

One guy started on 2 championship teams. No they don’t have an equal leash lmfao

Unlike Josh Boone who legitimately beat out a McDonald’s All American for his starting spot on a championship team.

Karaban was quite literally the only option to start. And guess what? All that leash and opportunity helped him get valuable experience and turn out fine. He wasn’t some world beater out there his freshman year.

You have to let guys play through mistakes man.

Head scratcher W.....Hurley is way too lenient with AK and Solo. Why we continued to run offensive sets for someone in a shooting slump and hurt wrist blows my mind. It didn't take long to realize we had a huge advantage down low and the ball should of went down there every trip down the floor.
We don't win with out them, that's why he's lenient with them.
